Labour turning down applications

SunsetBeetch · 27/03/2020 06:28

Not exclusively limited to those with gender critical views (e.g. Femi Oluwole), but it seems to be happening a lot. Labour are determined to never be in power again, aren't they?

(People in the replies confirming this has happened to them too.)

@UKLabour - is it true that you're turning down membership applications from gender-critical people? That you don't want people who consider women to be adult human females? Who understand that "transwomen are women" is a denial of biological reality?

"#Labour has rejected me. I joined Dec 19th, received welcome pack, membership card, my subs were taken and I voted in the leadership election. Now with no evidence presented - just a maliciously false allegation of me supporting #BorisJohnson - I’ve been rejected with no appeal. t.co/Cdwc57wCWQ "

(Laura Marcus has never supported Boris Johnson, but she is gender critical.)

Oh, let them. I used to be a labour voter but I honestly don't care anymore. Let them virtue signal themselves into non-existance. Then perhaps some sensible people can start a new centre-left party that stands a chance of getting into power.

jadefinch · 27/03/2020 07:05

I used to be a Labour member but can't see me voting for them again for a very long time.

The best thing that can happen to the party is that it collapses and a new party rises out of the ashes.

CodenameVillanelle · 27/03/2020 07:12

The Labour Party has committed suicide. They are dead.

AnyOldSpartabix · 27/03/2020 07:20

The Labour Party has committed suicide. They are dead.

Surely another party must emerge now to fill the gaping hole for centre-left people who are not in favour of identity ideology.

LangSpartacusCleg · 27/03/2020 07:48

The Labour Party is doing more to encourage people to vote Tory than the Conservative Party.

Teabaseddiet · 27/03/2020 07:54

I thought I'd heard that local CLPs were responsible for "vetting" new joiners/rejoiners.

If this is true, then it'll be some rotten apple at that level & you should appeal.

Childrenofthestones · 27/03/2020 07:56

As in America where many on the radical left have never acknowledged the important part they played in getting Trump elected.

HorseRadishFemish · 27/03/2020 08:01

Labour have turned to shit like so many other things I used to care about.

KaronAVyrus · 27/03/2020 08:06

I don’t think the Labour Party will ever recover. It’s very sad.

Floisme · 27/03/2020 08:30

It's not only sad on a personal level. They're the opposition and their job is to hold the government to account. When they don't do it properly it's bad for us all.

Babdoc · 27/03/2020 09:51

At the moment it hardly matters. The whole country and all political parties need to work together to get us through the pandemic. It’s probably a boon that we have a large majority government and no credible opposition, as it means we can get on and bash through all the necessary legislation for financial support etc without wasting hours on debate and posturing.
Only when normality returns will it be important to have a good opposition. And I think Labour have blown their chances. Starmer will have to start from rock bottom to rebuild them. And he’ll need to cull an awful lot of extremist woke idiots first.

Floisme · 27/03/2020 12:00

Karen Ingala Smith also been turned down, according to this from James Kirkup (which KIS has retweeted so presumably endorses):

Michelleoftheresistance · 27/03/2020 12:35

Oh dear Grin

I'm sure they'll have a nice time being a little pressure group. And hopefully a new party will form that actually represents the general public.

DidoLamenting · 27/03/2020 16:28

Is there a complete lack of comprehension amongst the apparatchik about how chilling the tone of these letters and the letters sent to Margaret Hodge, Trevor Phillips and others?

GivesNoFox · 27/03/2020 16:46

So basically the Labour party has officially turned into a private club for realty denying knob-heads.

To be fair I've known this for a long time but its nice to get absolute confirmation.

GivesNoFox · 27/03/2020 16:47

Reality*

We really could do with an edit button.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 27/03/2020 17:02

Labour are done. I say this as a Labour voter. The trouble is we need an opposition right now but are the Lib Dems any better, I mean Layla Moran? Nah. Caroline Lucas is usually good but the Greens can be iffy as fuck. That's just my opinion but I despair.

Qcng · 27/03/2020 17:12

So they haven't learned from #ExpelMe AT ALL, and they actually ARE expelling people who think W=AHF.

It's like, when faced with over 25,000 likes/comments to #ExpelMe on Twitter after that ridiculous pledge, they just said "yep". Wow.

Sickoffamilydrama · 27/03/2020 17:28

How about giving another party a try.

Just Before Corona kicked off, I spoke with my conservative MP (for business purposes). I happened to mention how I had become more politically engaged and made it clear I'm GC he told me that they need more members like me and told me to join.

He was telling me that the new MPs who have been voted into typically labour seats are different and more centered rather than right leaning.

Once this settles down I'm going to become active in conservative and if I and a few did the same the harder side of the party could be nudged to the middle.

I'm more a liberal/ centre Left but also have some right leaning.

If I don't like what I see/ hear I'll go to a different party.

CheriLittlebottom · 27/03/2020 18:49

Sick I'm actually thinking the same. Which after a lifetime of voting on the left is pretty fucking bizarre.

Sickoffamilydrama · 27/03/2020 19:57

I'm glad I'm not alone Cheri a few years ago I wouldn't have thought this way.
Actually what was interesting is the youngish Scottish labour MP i meet at an event was much more arrogant than the conservative one who was approachable and down to earth, I know that's not really an extensive range of MPs my survey of 2.
But it did get me thinking maybe some like the one I meet actually want to help people, although some undoubtedly want power (just as any other 'public service').

Love the user name, Cheri, I need to order his last book or maybe reread the whole series.

Excellent article by Brendan O'Neill on just how badly Corbyn and the Labour Party has lost any grip on reality.

And it's always a pleasure seeing how much of an idiot Ash Sarkar is.

mobile.twitter.com/AyoCaesar/status/1242741351139213317

It's truly terrifying to think there might be time when the likes of Sarkar and Alison Phipps might be able to influence government policy.

calllaaalllaaammma · 27/03/2020 20:12

They are willing to commit electoral suicide and are doubling down on stopping any debate over this, It's almost like electoral rigging of their own voting system, it's pretty sad.
