YES!

Just announced this in the office as it flashed up on my phone. Everyone cheered.

OP posts:

“It's testimony to how shit rape trials and sentencing usually are that we're all so surprised and thrilled by this, isn't it?” Absolutely!

It is great news - but it shouldn’t be. It should be the norm.

US news says he has more trials pending?

Let’s hope they don’t give him the opportunity to pull a Polanski though! Is he being held in custody? I’ve looked but can’t find an answer to that online

Is he going straight to rikers?

CigarsofthePharoahs · 11/03/2020 17:17

Justice finally done.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 11/03/2020 17:25

His contribution to the film industry

That and other comments. Don't they just illustrate the shock and deeply held belief that he was supposed to get off the charges? That men don't get hold to account. That boys will be boys. That he was too big to fail. An unwavering belief that convictions are not meant to happen like this.

AutumnRose1 · 11/03/2020 17:27

Does this actually mean 23 years, as it’s the US, does anyone know?

AutumnRose1 · 11/03/2020 17:27

Btw I’m quite happy for this type to die in prison, what’s with the sympathy?!

minou123 · 11/03/2020 17:50

I am so pleased the women have got the justice they deserved. 20 years is a brilliant.

I read the victim impact statements and they are so strong

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 11/03/2020 17:51

Good news. I'm sorry that the sickening statute of limitations, which thankfully doesn't apply in the UK, prevented Annabella Sciorra from personally getting the justice she so much deserves. But I hope this sentence has helped her too.

littlbrowndog · 11/03/2020 17:54

💪👏

LangClegsOpinionIsNoted · 11/03/2020 18:08

Yeah I don't care if he dies in prison either. I'd prefer it to be in at least a decade's time though.

Notredamn · 11/03/2020 18:08

Personally I would not like to see anyone die in prison

You wish he'd received a shorter sentence?

Other opinions are available

LangClegsOpinionIsNoted · 11/03/2020 18:09

I think he was already in Rikers, so he should have gone straight back there.

Datun · 11/03/2020 18:16

His contribution to the film industry? His fucking contribution? Ruining actresses careers and only allowing them to flourish if they suck his dick?

He has single-handedly deprived of the fucking film industry of any number of amazing women.

The sheer blindness of claiming that his glittering life, relentlessly punctuated by sex offending, should be any kind of mitigation???

It's breathtaking how little women mean to these awful men.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 11/03/2020 18:18

I did an involuntary yelp when I heard it in the radio. Fantastic news. His defence lawyer has called it an obscene number. He’s the bloody obscene one Angry

AutumnRose1 · 11/03/2020 18:20

I gather he’s given an interview saying he’s “totally confused” but I don’t know what about.

Mockerswithnoknockers · 11/03/2020 18:22

You wish he'd received a shorter sentence?

The law's the law. He gets what he gets.

In the case of terminally ill prisoners with very little time left, it is normal in civilised countries to release them into an appropriate health facility.

Goosefoot · 11/03/2020 18:23

I don't get the contribution to the film industry business. Age and health, sure. But it's not like the film industry is some sort of charity, it's like saying the judge should consider his contribution to the shampoo industry or something.

Personally I would not like to see anyone die in prison.

It's also quite hard on prison health systems to have old people in poor health to deal with.

Goosefoot · 11/03/2020 18:25

Some might argue that the US is not a civilised country which explains both the film industry and the prison industry.

trulyconfuseddotcom · 11/03/2020 18:27

This bit:
The sex offender also addressed the court personally in a rambling address in which he expressed remorse as well as implying he had been “confused” in his dealings with the women. “I’m totally confused, men are confused about all of this issue.”
Weinstein went on to say: “I really feel remorse for this situation, I feel it deeply in my heart,” adding: “We may have different truths.”

Different truths???? FFS. Still in denial then.

AutumnRose1 · 11/03/2020 18:28

Goosefoot “ It's also quite hard on prison health systems to have old people in poor health to deal with.”

I asked on another thread what the prisons do for these prisoners but no one knew.

I also don’t know what excuse Wankstain is giving for the wheelchair?

Mockerswithnoknockers · 11/03/2020 18:29

I would find it very difficult to argue that the USA with its prison system is a civilised country.

AutumnRose1 · 11/03/2020 18:29

Truly - oh, thanks. I suspect that means “men are confused that women aren’t their toys”.

AutumnRose1 · 11/03/2020 18:30

Mockers “ I would find it very difficult to argue that the USA with its prison system is a civilised country.”

Why’s that please?

wellbehavedwomen · 11/03/2020 18:35

He's facing further charges in California, too. Live investigation in London on his offending on these shores, to top it all. This man is going to die in jail; I so hope it affords his dozens of victims some comfort.

Mockerswithnoknockers · 11/03/2020 18:38

Well slave labour for a start. Check the 13th amendment.

I also recommend the most recent episode of Last Week Tonight.

Notredamn · 11/03/2020 18:44

Mockers nobody means he'll literally die in his prison cell. He'll still be doing time whatever prison hospital bed he's in. He won't be a free man. That's what people are happy about.
