tiktok Jeanette Winterson recently spoke out against medicalisation of 'trans kids'.

I think her partner is a bit of a transactivist, but JW seems a bit more... circumspect about it.

I hope, anyway, because a woman with her understanding of women's and girls' oppression really should be thinking about this a bit more.

Her partner is Susie Orbach - if she's turned TRA then the sky really is falling. This is an article she wrote last year on bodies. Reading this I would assume she's GC. https://www.theguardian.com/books/2019/aug/23/susie-orbach-that-will-bodies-be-like-in-the-future?CMP=ShareiOSAppp_Other

Eh? What does she mean you are ‘free’ from ‘gender’ as you age? IME the gender trap comes down very hard on older women in a way it absolutely doesn’t for older men.

I think she meant that there aren't the same expectations for appearance and such in particular, because you are no longer in the sexual marketplace in the same way.

But as far as not being listened to, that seems very variable to me. Some women seem to experience that, while others describe having more influence or power as they age, and being able to be more straightforward both because they are taken more seriously and maybe because they themselves are out of the sex game.

I don't think Moore is in a place where she is dealing with stuff like eldercare.

I think this is a really bad article and an example of how newspapers having a tame "feminist" to write on issues is just part of how women's issues never get taken seriously. Too often they just misdirect.

How could she have possibly written "My body is ageing and gender dissipates slightly at menopause because you are free." and be taken seriously. If she doesn't even understand what gender is how can she write about women's bodies aging.

But in response to an earlier comment (and I keep saying this!!) articles that aren't open for comment on the web site are nearly always open on facebook.

This article didn't seem to interest many www.facebook.com/GuardianOpinion/posts/3050607921638383?tn=-R

Zoe Williams later article is getting a bit of ridicule which is good!

Something came back to me about Jeanette Winterson and I checked her autobiography Why Be Happy When You Could Be Normal? She writes about being a 'a girl who's a boy who's a boy who's a girl' so I imagine that explains why JW has been silent instead of standing up for women's rights.
