For some reason, this tweet came up in my feed today - I find it highly offensive - I'm pro-choice and believe women should have access to safe and free abortions if they want them. But I think this tweet totally underminds the fact that 68 000 women die every year of unsafe abortions - www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2709326/ .
I did actually DM the author of the tweet to let them know how offensive I thought it was - and explained as nicely as possible that I was pro-choice but that I thought it totally undermined how traumatic and damaging abortion, even chosen abortion, can be for some women and the fact that the people who die from abortion are women.

I got a reply back basically accusing me of being anti-choice and telling me it is just a joke to piss off conservatives.

I'm furious - and I know it's just a tweet and not worth getting worked up about - but I just find it so horrific.

Being prochoice doesn't logically entail thinking embryos/foetuses are "nobodies".

I would assume that was a person who was anti abortion posting something to screenshot and whip up feeling against Pro choice people.

And yes it does ignore the deaths due to unsafe abortion, the underage girls forced to give birth etc

That twitter account is a reminder that AGP is not just a thing for the middle-aged.

Also those who abort due to disability incompatible with life, or they will die, those types of heart wrenching situations.

And yes - I did name change - my twitter account is in my real name - connected to my work etc - so I didn’t want to post under my usual name just in case - because that would have the possibility of outing a lot of my private life that I have posted about on Mumsnet.

I'm pro-choice and would never want to ban or limit access to abortion.

However that is because I think abortion is often the least worst option. The reality is the majority of aborted foetuses if not aborted would have gone on to become people. I don't think abortion should be treated flippantly.
