Womxn as a “more inclusive term”?

MadamePewter · 03/03/2020 16:57

As apparently seen in literature for Leicester university Women’s Day. Is this a thing?

It’s apparently more inclusive as it includes women and trans women. Their Women’s (Womxn’s?!) Officer is a trans woman .

This gets more weird by the day.

Ridiculous word.

Melroses · 03/03/2020 17:04

Ridiculous non word Grin

At least they are not trying to claim that it includes black women (who are not excluded by the word 'woman', being women and all that) this time.

definitelygc · 03/03/2020 17:05

Can anyone tell me how "womxn" is supposed to be pronounced? Or is it a word created entirely for social media?

JontyDoggle37 · 03/03/2020 17:07

Women is fully inclusive of women. It does not need to be expanded or amended.

BolloxtoGender · 03/03/2020 17:10

I have been looking out for it this year, I'm glad to say that apart from OP's example, I have not seen it anywhere else yet. In fact 'woman' has been used apologetically everywhere I've looked.

MadamePewter · 03/03/2020 17:10

The pronunciation puzzled me too!

It’s inane

Who are we supposed to be including, exactly? Those who aren’t women? They have a name already - men.

sleepyhead · 03/03/2020 17:13

So transwomen are NOT women? How terribly transphobic (and confusing).

Michelleoftheresistance · 03/03/2020 17:15

Males who don't want to be called either but aren't happy to be called women either, and have to adapt it to make sure they're visible.

While removing any definition from female people and messing it around to be All About Them instead. This is one day . These numpties cannot tolerate one single day being about females.

Anyone want to play spot the male supremacists?

FromTheEarth · 03/03/2020 17:16

Well womxn excludes me because I'm a woman. So what group do I get to be in then?

LynnSchmob · 03/03/2020 17:16

So long as we don’t upset the penis owners seems to be the order of the day. 🤦‍♀️

Lordfrontpaw · 03/03/2020 17:17

Their Women’s (Womxn’s?!) Officer is a trans woman” as is, I assume, their Trans & Non Binary. Don’t know what happened to the rest of the alphabet (but I assume they are upset).

RUSU92 · 03/03/2020 17:17

Why are they using an X given that the XX chromosome is what actually defines us as, you know, women? If I saw the word womxn I'd presume it was emphasising biological reality, not the other way round.

Bizarre.

Just say women and transwomen if you want to include them both, but I don't know what they would be talking about that would necessarily include those two sets of people, but not transmen and/or men.

TheRealMcKenna · 03/03/2020 17:17

Sadly, my keyboard is sticky and it always ends up as womXXn. Is that OK?

RUSU92 · 03/03/2020 17:18

Maybe transwomen can have womYn instead?

RUSU92 · 03/03/2020 17:18

Sadly, my keyboard is sticky and it always ends up as womXXn. Is that OK? Yes!

Thisismytimetoshine · 03/03/2020 17:18

The penis owners who have to be front and centre on Woman’s Day. It’s surreal, really. But they’re managing it, which is chilling.

Thisismytimetoshine · 03/03/2020 17:20

Why are all women’s officers (or it certainly seems to be all of them) actually natal men?

midgebabe · 03/03/2020 17:22

And mxn as well I suppose?

MadamePewter · 03/03/2020 17:23

@Thisismytimetoshine it is chilling.

I'm pretty sure that's not how you pronounce it.

Possibly a Xhosa click? Wom(click)nnnnn.

I think sleepyhead may be referring to trans women’s insistence that they are actual women, then discovering being lumped in with the women is not actually special enough for them; they’ve still got to shine more brightly than anyone else.
Or maybe I’m being presumptuous and she needs educating...

Michelleoftheresistance · 03/03/2020 17:45

To say someone who is biologically male is not a woman. No, not confusing or transphobic. Just plain old fact.

This.

Transwomen are transwomen, the clue is in the name. Women can't be transwomen. Can you imagine how offensive that claim would be?

For example would you be ok with female people colonising TW specific groups and spaces and language and days, and changing the language to suit themselves, erasing them and their identity to make it 'inclusive'? Because I wouldn't be. Not sure why you'd feel it was ok therefore for any group to do this to another?

Michelleoftheresistance · 03/03/2020 17:46

I agree This I think the irony may have been a little subtle Grin
