Womxn as a “more inclusive term”?

MadamePewter · 03/03/2020 16:57

As apparently seen in literature for Leicester university Women’s Day. Is this a thing?

It’s apparently more inclusive as it includes women and trans women. Their Women’s (Womxn’s?!) Officer is a trans woman .

This gets more weird by the day.

@Midgebabe not mxn apparently, according to Nate on twitter trans women are more persecuted which is why women have to accept their word being bastardised, but Nate will consider the use of mxn for future male specific campaigns as a suggestion.

Luckystar777 · 03/03/2020 17:47

Goldsmiths college have been using it since 2018. It's utter nonsense to include males in the definition of woman. Women are adult human females, not males. Humans can't change sex.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 03/03/2020 17:58

Humans can't change sex.

Of course they can't. But there are a load of daft fuckers who (claim to) think otherwise. They are men. I don't think that they really believe it either. But hey: what a great tool for creating a massive shit storm with the aim of putting those pesky women back in their boxes. Way to go, men Angry

midgebabe · 03/03/2020 18:01

Wow, I guessed that right.

Although just a thought, does this mean we have women back for women and just use womxn and mxn when we are talking gender ? And nxn for the none binary of course

Durgasarrow · 03/03/2020 18:17

How about just mammxls?

YeahLikeNoThough · 03/03/2020 18:21

Can anyone tell me how "womxn" is supposed to be pronounced?

I believe the correct pronounciation is "EE-go-MAIN-yacks".

Hope this helps!

Huggybear16 · 03/03/2020 18:25

Who are we supposed to be including, exactly? Those who aren’t women? They have a name already - men

Yep^

Unfortunately this shows how easy it is for one trans activists to get themselves into a position of power to further the agenda of a tiny minority. (On another thread where the question was asked why is Scotland's women's sector so woke, someone took the time to find out who were the CEOs of the groups and many were either trans or woke american imports)

But am Surprised the university agreed to "womxn" as it was widely ridiculed about 18 months ago. Soometimes universities (and parents) need to tell young people because you believe (are taken in by) something it doesn't make it true.

" ... in a statement on Wednesday, the museum rowed back from its defence of the word and apologised for the use of the term. The decision to use it had come from a desire to be inclusive, and it was not used in other contexts by the museum, it said.

“We should have put more thought into whether this was the right term to use when communicating about the event. We made a mistake, and we should not have used it. We’re sorry that we made the wrong call.

“We invite challenges to our thinking and we listen to our audience, so we’re removing the word from the website and from our communications about the event.”

The decision came after hundreds of Twitter users derided the use of “womxn”, calling for the Wellcome Collection to use the term “women”. ... "

rusu92 - Why are they using an X

I think the X represents the notion of trans- or cross-. Or maybe it is just a placeholder for the unknown (like in algebra or an arbitrary designation for something). "Latinx" is another one (seen increasingly in the US and apparently pronounced "Latinex", instead of the logical "Latinks")... but "womxn" is apparently pronounced the same as "women", according to what I read somewhere. ("Womyn" is also pronounced the same as "women" - or sometimes "woman" - but the use of a "y" to represent an "i" sound is somewhat more traditional than the use of an "x" for one.)

The little voice in my head is always reading it as "woe-mixin." Then it does a little trot backward while saying, "Wait. What?" Then, "Oh, yes, right, women and all of Rabbit's friends and relations." And then I go on with reading whatever it was while being annoyed that a) I had to expend time and neurons on it, and b) the voice starts growling about the politics of it all and I miss most of the rest of whatever the dingdongs are talking about.

Tell me we'll wake up from all this some day.

Michelleoftheresistance · 03/03/2020 20:25

Argh. Males appropriate and wreck the class label of women into gibberish for their own benefit.

Women patiently try to work out why, what the fuck it's supposed to be for and how to say it.

I swear, it's like watching the whole female class as a whole sucked into being some poor woman on the relationships board run around trying to understand the dh busy with the midlife crisis script. Where the support the woman needs from other women is the tough love script about stop spending hours of your mental energy on this loser who is loving the attention and the never ending wonder of him, and who is using your generosity, patience and attempts to have a reciprocal relationship to be able to behave like a total arse. Ducks in a row, LTB, you can do better than this.

Sadly, my keyboard is sticky and it always ends up as womXXn. Is that OK?

Yes thats fine. My keyboard keeps sticking when I try to type trxynswoman too. 🤔

Bananabixfloof · 03/03/2020 20:57

Brilliant, spat out mxmy tea.

TheRealMcKenna · 04/03/2020 07:57

I don’t understand why the students’ union elected a trans woman to be the women’s officer when they already have a trans officer and an LGBT+ officer.

Lordfrontpaw · 04/03/2020 08:01

I think you do!

Fannia · 04/03/2020 08:07

How funny as I remember when feminists used to be wimmin.

Beamur · 04/03/2020 08:09

It's not going to catch on.
