Thanks for the heads up

Doyoumind · 18/02/2020 23:05

Wow. Will be sure to listen.

Wasnt there one about a year ago which touched on TWAW? Was it about trans people in sports, or am I misremembering?

Greenmarmalade · 18/02/2020 23:08

Optimistic about this one!

wellbehavedwomen · 18/02/2020 23:15

Oh wow. That's going to be really, really good. All sides properly represented - the way it should be.

MrsSnippyPants · 18/02/2020 23:17

I remain baffled as to why the media engages with Jane Fae, as I am when they engage with Tatchell.
Does nobody at the BBC have Google?

Jane Fae as reinvented Janesself as a knitting doomsday prepper. Most odd.

In a game of word association I'd still always go with 'extreme porn advocate' though.

testing987654321 · 18/02/2020 23:37

They always seem to go for more extreme people when they can. It's good that this topic will get a thorough airing.

MoleSmokes · 19/02/2020 18:15

I was reading up about aspects of AGP and some (not all - so I am not generalising, Mumsnet Mods!) people self-report that they find it "exciting" to perform traditionally female hobbies in public. "Knitting" was given as an example by several people.

MrsSnippyPants · 19/02/2020 18:18

I know Mole, that was news to me when I first came across it!

If anyone fancies live blogging it please do I'm stuck at work til later! Grin

ThinEndoftheWedge · 19/02/2020 19:10

There was a previous Moral Maze on Gender Identity. Jane Fae was a witness then too- other witnesses were Heather Brunskell Evans, Stephen Whittle and James Caspian.

Nov 17 - available on the BBC Sounds app/website.

If memory serves - Jane denied there was any medical intervention for children - can’t remember if this included puberty blockers or not. Could be wrong...

Worth a listen to compare how the argument has been reformatted!

bellinisurge · 19/02/2020 19:13

Was just about to post about this. Should be interesting.

MrsSnippyPants · 19/02/2020 19:15

I am almost deciding not to listen to it live. I don't know if my blood pressure will take it! The BBC have been so one-sided on this issue for so long (the title of the programme is even framing the debate as 'Transgender Rights', when in fact it is women's right's that are under threat).

So I might just follow it on here if someone gives us the headlines, then catch it later when I hear which way the wind is blowing.

FleetsumNLangCleg · 19/02/2020 19:33

My DH is telling me to do that. I just get so angry!

MrsSnippyPants · 19/02/2020 19:39

I know Fleetsum, I start replying to the radio...

"That's a downright lie!'
'Those statistics have been completely debunked'
'How can you be allowed to say that, challenge him someone!'

It's exhausting and I miss bits!

At least on catch-up I can rewind Smile

While we are waiting, can someone explain the format?

As I understand it, Jane Fae, Graham Linehan, Torr Robinson and Kiri Tunks are "witnesses"

Are they cross-examined and what do the other people do?

(I usually listen to this with my ears closed as it sounds like a load of cross babble)

R0wantrees · 19/02/2020 19:48

There's an earlier thread here which includes background to Torr Robinson's (Chair of Labour Campaign for Trans Rights) position etc:

Sparkyduchess · 19/02/2020 20:06

Omg, immediately told to be generous

Destinysdaughter · 19/02/2020 20:06

I hate that I'm already agreeing with Michael Portillo!

SoldiersinPetticoats · 19/02/2020 20:07

Yay Portillo!

BoreOfWhabylon · 19/02/2020 20:07

Portillo, woop woop!

Cuntysnark · 19/02/2020 20:07
