Has she taken testosterone? I'll be honest, I thought 'young man' when the video started, but the fingers, shoulders, and lack of Adam's apple told a different story.

My hairdressers does both men’s and women’s hair.

Indeed. Another provincial town here, at least 60% of the market must be generic hairdressers, frequented by both sexes. I only know of two barbers in the whole area.

Where does this person live that there are only highly gendered options?

Jesus....what a narcissistic little snowflake. My dh goes to the same hairdressers that l do...l am so fed up of all this attention seeking bullshit.

Report
midgebabe · 18/02/2020 20:00

repeating what a hairdresser on MN said sometime

Some barbers might only have trained in certain techniques

Some barbers avoid women because sometimes the expectation of what they will get is at odds with what the barber can deliver. The language can be different. If you expect a wash and blow dry after the short back and sides, you will be disappointed. Or a girlie feathered version or whatever

I am vague here as I am a cut it myself person ( since my friendly barber gave up after a rent rise ) ( he did long hair but no styling, quick, limited chatter , no foul smelling stuff )

For all those saying this is attention seeking, isn't it the case that this person made this post on their own Twitter feed? Rather than standing outside your living room window shouting it at you or posting it on a pamphlet through your letter box?

So the question really is, why are you giving it such attention? And such fury, @WorriedMum6868. You sound horribly upset. What else that you personally chose to watch has incensed you today, when you could have just turned it off?

@eckhart
I am just sick of the constant inconsequential self referential self aggrandising bollocks this group of people come up with. Go to a salon and ask for the haircut you want. Its not that hard

Or doesnt that make you feel special enough?

I heard another poem by the same person a couple of months ago but their voice was different, higher and smoother. I'm wondering if there's a change hence my query as to why 'NB' females must sometimes make irreversible changes.

NB males don't bar clothes. Even oestrogen has less of an impact than testosterone.

No. It's on the BBC Social twitter feed.

I haven't noticed any furious posts. If you think most people are commenting in fury then I think you may need to accept you don't judge tone well in text (which is not always easy).

Why are you commenting on people's comment? Why does anyone discuss anything on MN? This is a public video, produced by the state broadcaster to put forward a particular viewpoint. It's entire purpose is to generate discussion (even though it is not in a pamphlet).

Perhaps a better question would be Why do you criticise people for disagreeing rather than explaining why you think the video is right?

@WorriedMum6868 you poor little snowflake, it must be so hard for you that this young person hasn't taken your views into consideration.

Can you not see the irony in your fury?

Report
Eckhart · 18/02/2020 21:16

@donquixotedelamancha Oh, I see. I didn't realise it was on the BBC.

I can't see the fury either , just exasperation

@eckhart
Unlike this individual, l have not taken to twitter to whinge on about how no one takes my feelings into consideration.
Can you not see how this person is just attention seeking. Loads and loads and loads of salons are unisex..they are not rare or unusual...why doesnt she just walk into one and get a haircut instead of bleating on twitter about it.

What an absolute spanner. Looks like they take fashion and hair advice from 'Where's Wally'.
Maybe she needs to have a look af what's happening in Idlib and give her non- binary head a really good wobble. FFS.

If you think I said most people are commenting in fury, I think you may need to accept that you don't always comprehend comments accurately Wink

I was asking WorriedMum why she was so furious, after her 'Jesus... attention seeking bullshit' comment. Maybe in your house that's how calm people speak, but in mine, you'd have to be quite pissed off to say something like that. Everyone else I wondered why it's any different for them to comment than it is for the original Twitter poster to post.

The thing is that there is so much wrong in this country and the wider world right now, the slide to the right, racism, the government and who really controls it, the extreme weather right now, climate change etc. Stuff that is a real problem, stuff that really needs to be tackled. But the current generation of young people are creating problems that don’t exist and farting about while the world literally burns around them.

I said the other day that I heard Smells Like Teen Spirit, that was nearly 30 years ago. Where has all the anger gone? There is so much to be angry about but getting someone’s pronouns right is not one of them.

Fair enough. Genuine question: do you not think the video is silly?

Honestly I find the constant representations of Trans people on the BBC as fragile imbeciles, intent on silencing any reference to biological reality, to be far worse than anything in the mail.

One moronic video can be an error, but it's constant.

It's MN, the lack of false tact is part of the charm. People often think my posts are annoyed when they aren't.

worriedmum I don't see why a bit of attention seeking bothers people so much. Bleating about bleating and whinging about whinging is ironic. As is my commenting about commenting! I just don't get why you seem so furious about it.

Report
HermioneWeasley · 18/02/2020 21:31

It’s more propaganda from the BBC. This 0.5% of the population seem to take up a lot of media coverage - even their article about the HRT shortage was about how it’s affecting trans women.

But yes, the idea that getting a haircut is a “struggle” is ridiculous beyond words. What these people will do if they ever experience actual hardships or difficulties doesn’t bear thinking about. Melt, I suppose.

Being furious and being exasperated are very different things.

donquixote I wouldn't have posted the video myself, if I was that person. But many people of that age group are, have been, and probably always will be, a bit over dramatic about stuff. I don't know why MNetters get all flustered about it.
