What’s taking Stonewall so long to get a new CEO

Just that really. Ruth Hunt left after the start of the year and a fairly lengthy resignation notice. It’s a well paid, high profile job that you would think would attract good quality candidates.

Is it now seen as a toxic job or are the board of trustees utterly incompetent?

I think it’ll be seen as a nightmare job tbh stonewall already had reputation in the voluntary sector of being difficult to work with let alone for. I think they’ll just end up giving it to the interim

RuffleCrow · 16/02/2020 11:08

Stonewall's crumbling! Grin

OhHolyJesus · 16/02/2020 11:09

Paul Twocock is the interim CEO so I don't think the board is in a hurry as they have someone steering the ship.

Ideally into an iceberg...

NearlyGranny · 16/02/2020 11:13

Perhaps the potential candidates are seeing the writing on the wall? We can only hope.

Tried and found wanting.

LynnSchmob · 16/02/2020 11:25

It doesn’t reflect well on them as an organisation.

I have to say they seem to have a shed load of big-name corporate sponsors behind them, though as we know, these are easily lost through bad publicity. And the ranks of their trustees are tilted heavily towards publicity and image experts and lawyers. I think they're going to need to call heavily on that sort of help in the not-too-distant.

Their safeguarding policy with its focus on protecting children and creating 'trusted spaces' makes fascinating reading, too. Anyone got room for a second helping of cognitive dissonance this morning, or are we all still full after Andrew Marr?!

Luckystar777 · 16/02/2020 11:28

No one in their right mind wants to work at a homophobic, biphobic, heterophobic organisation full of hypocrites and lunatics.

youllhavehadyourtea · 16/02/2020 11:37

I think they’ll just end up giving it to the interim

I read that as they'll just end up giving it to the intern

Melioration · 16/02/2020 11:41

It would be a nice job for Emma Grin

Lordfrontpaw · 16/02/2020 12:01

Maybe that can’t find anyone with the correct ‘thinks’.

PlayYouLikeAShark · 16/02/2020 15:15

Maybe there's a fierce internal battle over who will take the helm. Lots of big egos & high profile activists who all self identify as the best candidate & it would be too exclusionary to just pick one. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Mockersisrightasusual · 16/02/2020 15:18

Paul Twocock is the interim CEO

Isn't one enough???

I've heard of centering the penis but this is tessalating it.

AutumnRose1 · 16/02/2020 15:20

Funny, I was just thinking the other day, it must be a nightmare to have to work there. I wonder the turnover rate is like?

without MN, I would have been clueless about the damage they are doing.

FredaFrogspawn · 16/02/2020 15:25

IMO They should give it to a T - they’re the ones it supports now. Without the T there is nothing to campaign for now they don’t recognise same sex attraction. The T stuff keeps them valid. They should be honest and admit they don’t support 100% same sex attracted people any more.

endofthelinefinally · 16/02/2020 15:31

NearlyGranny
As if Marr wasn't infuriating enough, it was followed by Peter Tatchel talking about Islamophobia.
It was extraordinary and the level of cognitive dissonance was huge.
Sorry if my spelling is bad. I am in a different country and time zone and seriously wondering if I really want to set foot in the UK again.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 16/02/2020 15:35

That's a good point, Freda. It's a Trans-centred organisation, makes sense it should be a trans person heading it up.

Binterested · 16/02/2020 15:40

It would be great if they gave it to TRA transwoman. If this whole agenda is to fly with the public they have to see what it actually means. That’s why Stonewall won’t do it - because once the public sees what an end to women’s only spaces means and who would be allowed in them, they absolutely won’t buy it. And then all the corporate sponsorship comes crashing down.

They need a gay man that no one wants to offend. Or a Ruth Hunt type woman. No actual transwoman TRAs allowed on the frontline.

TeaAndStrumpets · 16/02/2020 17:56

Well there are probably a few defeated Labour candidates down the Job Centre.

Lordfrontpaw · 16/02/2020 18:11

I think the London mayor might be looking for a nice rainbow job soon.

Doyoumind · 16/02/2020 18:40

The number of potential candidates must be extremely small. They need to be from the LGBT community, with passionate beliefs matching Ruth Hunt's, have a career background that makes them suitable to be a CEO of a large charity, and be committed enough to take a salary potentially lower than they could achieve in the private sector. That's before you consider all the other issues.

stumbledin · 16/02/2020 19:20

Not really related except that FWR have had their opinions on this as well, but Women's Aid has also not appointed a new CEO! www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3502101-How-could-a-cheerleader-for-Ukip-ever-become-CEO-of-Women-s-Aid-she-has-now-stepped-down

I think we should suggest FWR becomes the selection panel Grin

zanahoria · 16/02/2020 22:04

My guess is that thay want another Lesbian (a proper one) as that deflects criticism but they cannot find one.

SapphosRock · 17/02/2020 09:53

They need to be from the LGBT community

Not necessarily. I believe Stonewall has targets to recruit more straight people into the organisation to achieve balance.

Similar to how most other organisations have targets to recruit more minority applicants.

Doyoumind · 17/02/2020 09:57

In theory they don't have to be LGBT but I think there would be an enormous backlash if they weren't. Non-LGBT people constantly get criticised nowadays for commenting on something that isn't their lived experience. For someone without that experience to represent the community would be unthinkable. If they need to increase diversity it will be in the lower ranks surely.

ThePurported · 17/02/2020 10:02

I believe Stonewall has targets to recruit more straight people into the organisation to achieve balance.

Is that right?
How do they work out what is balanced and who is straight, when people like their trans lead Alex Drummond identify as lesbians?
