What’s taking Stonewall so long to get a new CEO

Just that really. Ruth Hunt left after the start of the year and a fairly lengthy resignation notice. It’s a well paid, high profile job that you would think would attract good quality candidates.

Is it now seen as a toxic job or are the board of trustees utterly incompetent?

My guess is that thay want another Lesbian (a proper one) as that deflects criticism but they cannot find one

That's my thought. They won't choose a trans person because they need people to believe that they're still an LGB-supporting organisation.

Neither. I think they are holding out for a candidate with maximum influence and contacts.
Remember how we thought Ruth Hunt was toast - and then she got a peerage?

MedusasButterDish · 17/02/2020 15:13

Could it be someone from abroad?

Needmoresleep · 17/02/2020 15:17

Are any of the Trustees trans?

They really ought to have a trans CE as trans is the focus of their current campaigning. But they won’t as it would then be pretty obvious that their interest in representing homosexuals is limited. But perhaps hard to find a same-sex attracted person willing to be the beard.

After some consideration I fully support the appointment of Alex Drummond as their new leader. I think Alex would be ideal for getting their message across to the general public and corporate sponsors.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 17/02/2020 15:31

I was literally just thinking about that dear old public masturbator par excellence James Makings earlier. He's still unemployed. He'd fit right in.

ThePurported · 17/02/2020 15:48

Excellent suggestion Buzz.
Personally I think they should try to get Edward Lord. They is very well connected, and it's time Stonewall started validating nonbinary identities.

Needmoresleep · 17/02/2020 15:48

Has Jess Bradley got a new job yet?!

Seriously though, I can think of several trans people: Fionne, Miranda, Rose etc, who might approach a push for trans rights as a negotiation involving the need to consider and protect the needs and rights of other vulnerable groups, including children. Trouble is that such an approach would not fit with Stonewall’s #nodebate demand based strategy.

Pity. By representing TRAs rather than trans people who would prefer to quietly live their lives accepting and being accepted, they have dug their own hole. They seem to have become a sexual libertarian movement rather than a support organisation.

TeaAndStrumpets · 17/02/2020 16:44

Pip Bunce is quite versatile.

Lordfrontpaw · 17/02/2020 17:02

Yes but only 2 or 3 days a week.

I think they’ll struggle getting a credible candidate from a LGB or T community. LGB leaders won’t touch Stonewall with a barge pole. I would love someone like Debbie Hayton to but her views as a TW are so diametrically opposed to Stonewall’s extreme gender ideology nonsense that I can’t see the board approving.
My prediction is that as the issue gains greater public prominence, corporate sponsors will distance themselves leading to closure. I’m forecasting a rather sad ending to what was once such an amazing force for LGB equality and social change.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 17/02/2020 19:22

The LGB Alliance are more than capable of taking up the mantle for LGB people and have proven themselves to be sensible, rational and clear.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 17/02/2020 19:24

I am sure the Monitors are making copious notes of all our excellent suggestions and we'll see one of these exemplary characters anointed very soon. I can see no reason they'd be rejected, given their actions speak very clearly in accordance with stonewall's priorities.

Ratrace123 · 17/02/2020 19:28

Absolutely @Buzz and I’ll be clapping them every step of the way. Lots of clear thinking intellectual might there, and of course they’re already allies to genuine trans community who do not wish to create national-level wrong think on scientific facts.
I don’t know if Stonewall as a brand can be saved?

Needmoresleep · 17/02/2020 19:35

The obvious place to start looking is:
www.stonewall.org.uk/trans-advisory-group

Pity, perhaps, that Aimee Challenor is no longer involved.

Or are they waiting for Lily Madigan to complete finals?

ThePurported · 17/02/2020 19:39

Honestly, I think they already have the next CEO lined up, and it'll be someone with serious access to Whitehall.

Needmoresleep · 17/02/2020 19:56

Perhaps they are waiting to see how Boris’ government lines up? No point in appointing someone who will irritate Cummings, Gove etc.

BatShite · 17/02/2020 20:04

No one in their right mind wants to work at a homophobic, biphobic, heterophobic organisation full of hypocrites and lunatics.

That masquerades as an organisation to help acceptance of gay/bi people, whilst claiming even being same sex attracted is transphobic Hmm

Stonewall are surely done tbh. They did do a lot of good work, but the trans thing has..fucked them. Trans ideology and acceptance of gay people do not mix, at all.

Siameasy · 17/02/2020 20:26

Oh gawd Lils Mad would be ahmaaaazing in the role

Failing that, Yaniv

Needmoresleep · 17/02/2020 20:30

Would Jameela Jamie qualify?

Needmoresleep · 17/02/2020 20:31

Sorry. Auto correct. Jameela Jamil.
