Combined with Harry's story as the leading headline it's quite compelling

Lordfrontpaw · 14/02/2020 13:06

Maybe not a complete washout Valentine’s Day after all (but we won’t forget Kate).

ThinEndoftheWedge · 14/02/2020 13:40

*Daughterofmabel

Transwoman on now saying tw in prisons who assault women are not genuine tw.*

Interesting that isn’t it... they are allowed to define away ‘real’ trans women when it suits. How the hell do they know? Transwomen have the same level and type of criminality as men, not women - wonder why?

Shame they didn’t discuss privacy and dignity as well as well.

Helena - feminists don’t take the rights of little girls away to get changed out of sight of an adult male penis.

Have you actually bothered to ask girls? No you bloody haven’t.

Right side of history my arse...

AbsintheFriends · 14/02/2020 13:41

I just caught the end of this in the car so have come home and listened to the first bit online.

Kate Harris was brilliant. TRA woman was going down her ticklist - suicide stats, homelessness, vague discrimination, vague hate crimes, men will rape anyway, same as homophobia in the past, wrong side of history - FULL HOUSE!!

JV seems to have done a bit of a reverse-ferret though, which is interesting. Last year he did an interview with a late transitioning trans woman and was fully on board the stunning and brave bus. (I remember he said to the woman who came in to do the traffic how courageous it was, and she said - carefully - that it certainly was 'extraordinary') Today he had a much more rigorous, less gullible approach. This, I think, is hugely significant.

littlbrowndog · 14/02/2020 13:43

Agreed. Absinthe.

It was a totally different approach from vine

Fionne 🥰

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 14/02/2020 13:54

Hilarious, whoever the other woman was, declaring men can’t define misogyny, white people cant define racism and ‘cis people can’t define transphobia’ - would have been fine if she didn’t have to swiftly follow that up with ‘and yes, I know I am cis, but.....’ Silly moo.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 14/02/2020 14:01

Also noticed the Radio 2 news right after included a bit on a Kimono, that belonged to Freddie Mercury, has gone on show in Japan. This wasn’t one of his stage costumes though but a Kimono he wore in ‘private’. This, apparently, ‘proves that he was gender fluid’ Hmm

Lordfrontpaw · 14/02/2020 14:03

What like a proper kimono or just a silky dressing gown? Surely he was trans race/culture then if it’s Japanese?

stumbledin · 14/02/2020 14:07

I never listen to JV on the radio but have occassionally watched his show of C5 which he got by following the woke line when Matthew Wright was kicked out for not apologising for recognising that if someone is born male they are male.

Not only is his totally submerged in the BBC training on gender identity etc., from watching the show he seems astonishingly unaware of what is going on in the world generally. How he ever got a radio show and then a tv show is beyond me. And to find our he is one of the highest paid presenters.

His views are from the dark ages on men's roles. etc..

I used to think Matthew Wright was a self important male , but in comparison to JV he did his research, was "relatively" open to ideas etc..

JV on 5 has turned into a self serving feast for angry gammons. Its as thought the media have decided they need to feed the non sensical little Brittain story lines to ensure they keep a certain type of audience.

Its firghtening to know that someone so casually uninformed is allowed to have a public platform twice a day.

Anyone would think the media is trying to force us back to the 50s.

Speaking of, I wonder what James O'Brien on LBC has to say about this. I am tempted to go and listen again to his latest show. Given his history on the topic, he won't like it, and nor will his angry cabbie audience.

AbsintheFriends · 14/02/2020 14:43

The wide-eyed cluelessness is entirely disingenuous. A mask he hides behind so he can ask questions and express opinions that he doesn't have to fully own. I first heard him doing it in the Ched Evans rape case and was sickened by it. Last year's fawning over the brave and stunning translady guest, and very quickly brushing over the inconvenient issue of h** devastated wife, was a very clear demonstration of this tactic. If he really was totally unaware and hadn't thought about any of it before, wouldn't he have wanted to know the impact on the family?

So, it's interesting that he dropped the act a bit here and wasn't afraid to appear more well-informed. He even told both interviewees off for using terms the listeners might not understand and explained the Harry Miller case himself, rather than feigning ignorance and asking Kate H to explain. It feels like the ground has definitely shifted in favour of common sense.

Xanthangum · 14/02/2020 16:20

Labour Campaign for Trans Rights here complaining that their offer to give JV a recorded segment (ie one that they can control) was rejected.

Given Helena Wadia's moan about the late notice booking twitter.com/helenawadia/status/1228316733854945280?s=20, reading between the lines it feels like Labour CTransR rejected the opportunity to take part in a live debate.

I wonder why?

These 5000 people make a heck of a lot of noise

EwwSprouts · 14/02/2020 16:45

Could ask the Boxing Day baseball carrier for a view on that?

EwwSprouts · 14/02/2020 16:47

Labour Campaign don't recognise Fionne as trans?

stumbledin · 14/02/2020 19:31

AbsintheFriends - that's an interesting comment about JV. Have to say I hadn't really heard of him, but saw some of his early C5 shows and was shocked at how unprofessional he was, and how chronically out dated in his attitude toward women and gender roles. He constantly partonises the younger woman who is a sort of subordinate presenter, even though she is way more informed than him.

But then I read about him because of the equal pay case and was gob smacked to here the BBC considered him a high level peronsality - whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?????

So watched some later shows on C5 and if you are right then they have actually told him (because it is C5?) to dumb down the show. It rarely covers anything slightly radical and only invites guests who are so lost in la la land or are part of the newspaper crony circuit that before they speak you can guess what they are going to say.

So strange when they say live tv doesn't attract younger viewers that they have made such a deliberate effort to make itself irrelevant to anybody but unreconstructed little englanders.

Just makes you realise that tv and radio news shows are just another cynical marketing exercise. Angry

AbsintheFriends · 14/02/2020 20:47

stumbledin I think he's aiming for that sort of Louis Theroux-style apparent naiveté. He falls very significantly short. It's also in conflict with his other role as a political journalist who gets a very high-profile role on the BBC's election night coverage, providing analysis as the results come in. And, of course, with his crazily-excessive BBC salary.

They assume we're stupid in going along with his faux-stupidity. It's an insulting waste of everyone's time.

DickKerrLadies · 15/02/2020 08:53

This definitely provided some much-needed sunlight though.

I was speaking to someone last night who's still at the 'transsexuals have their penis removed' stage who instantly understood the risks of self-id when there's someone on national radio saying that anyone is a woman if they say so.

(Personally, I think the idea that only well-intentioned people can be trans and therefore there's nothing to worry about is pretty transphobic and gatekeeping-like...)

Babdoc · 15/02/2020 10:45

I think it was a previous show of his, which featured Karen White, weeks ago, which may have changed Vine’s mind on the issue. A caller phoned in to say their female relative had been imprisoned alongside White, and White had been naked and ogling naked women in the showers.
You could practically hear the penny drop as Vine slowly went “O..hhhhh!”

SisyphusLangClegRocks · 15/02/2020 11:09

Your first thoughts were actually correct. He blocked myself and several other women on Twitter, because we showed his assertion that 'women are just as violent as men' to be utter bollocks, simply by using crime statistics to back up our point that men are more likely to commit homicide.
