willis always defends folk like Hayden and never says anything positive about those trying to fight back against TRA activist shutdowns of women's rights.
Kate - decent women support you.
Never doubt that and if more digging is required those same decent women will dig. Flowers

NotAGirl · 15/02/2020 10:11

Flowers Kate, if you decide you can face the impact on you to appeal I'll be donating with thanks

Langbannedforsafeguardingkids · 15/02/2020 10:13

I'm increasingly of the opinion that the CPS and the police are committing multiple hate incidents and even crimes against women. What they did to Kate (and her husband and children) was way worse than anything anyone could ever write on Twitter. So how's it ok to do that? If what she did was a crime, why is locking her up, interrupting a breastfeeding relationship, traumatising her kids, denying her sanpro not?

And if what Kate did is a crime, then how on earth have the CPS not prosecuted those harrassing Caroline Farrow - who has received far, far worse harrassment. Is it because she's the protected characteristic of female sex?

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 15/02/2020 10:23

Repeating both of Michelle’s excellent points because they should be shouted from the rooftops.

The heart of this issue seems to repeatedly come back to "how dare you say no to me".

In effect this was about someone stalking and digging and intentionally searching for any evidence that someone was still on Twitter under another name and wanting the person punished for having escaped their control.

Ugly. Really ugly stuff. But very classic of much behaviour women come to MN for help in escaping.

It’s really very ugly.

GCAcademic · 15/02/2020 10:34

Yes, it says everything about that poster that their support lies with the person who has a record of criminal, including violent, activity. We know very well that their distaste for mean words on Twitter won't extend to supporting Caroline Farrow, because, after all, her harassers belong to the sacred caste of transactivists.

myfaceisbroken · 15/02/2020 10:49

So Kate Scottow broke the law and received a sentence commensurate with that offence. Maybe. I dunno. IANAL.

But [shit analogy warning] say I have a grudge against person X, so I decide to follow them in my car as they drive onto the motorway, where we fall into line with the flow of traffic doing around 80mph as it often does, pull up alongside X, and take a quick video that includes their speedometer and their face. Would people consider my behaviour reasonable, would the CPS think it's in the public interest to pursue it, and would your average person think it was fair on X?

Amalfimamma · 15/02/2020 10:53

Welcome to mumsnet myfaceisbroken

That's an interesting first post.

myfaceisbroken · 15/02/2020 10:59

Just say it outright *Amalfi" Grin

I'd upload a photo of my silky-smooth hands, but, y'know, new account image restrictions.

myfaceisbroken · 15/02/2020 11:00

Ah bugger, bold fail.

fuckitywhy · 15/02/2020 11:02

I mean, I don't think you ever could prosecute someone for speeding without police cameras.

I think the better analogy here would be you forcing someone to go fast somehow by being threatening to them, then taking very dubious evidence of them speeding and then going to court.

BovaryX · 15/02/2020 11:07

amalfi
Thank you for your informative posts on this. It is truly shocking. I hope she wins her appeal.

Amalfimamma · 15/02/2020 11:15

myfaceisbroken

No need to say anything.

Apart from the fact that if you behaved as in your, admittedly shit, analogy you yourself could be facing prosecution for taking a video while speeding.......

Keep your silky smooth hands on the wheel mate

bovary with all the lies and misinformation out there it's only right that at least on the feminist board the truth can be spoken

myfaceisbroken · 15/02/2020 11:18

Not even that fast, though, fuckity. The kind of speeding that's so common most people wouldn't even blink an eye at it. Also this is a universe where nobody ever really knows what the speed limit might be on any given stretch of road.

Be fair, I warned you it was a shit analogy Grin But my first point is that purse-mouthed posts about how she broke the law and these are the consequences are ignoring the fact that the law here doesn't really reflect online social norms, and that taking this to the courts means Scottow has suffered a severe legal consequence for something the average internet user would see as pretty normal, if a bit offensive, and probably wouldn't even realise was illegal. My second point was a comment on how Hayden's behaviour could be seen as petty.

myfaceisbroken · 15/02/2020 11:23

Amalfi — I was presuming it's obvious you couldn't take a video of another driver's speedometer from the driver's seat, and didn't fancy wasting electrons on an elaborate explanation of who's sat where, with diagrams 😂 No analogy is ever going to be parallel in every detail.

Anyway. As you were…

NoSharon · 15/02/2020 11:24

Has Kate lost her job over this or was she suspended pending the outcome of the trial?

Amalfimamma · 15/02/2020 11:39

face well you did admit your anology was shitty hence the shitty answer to it.

I'm off to make some Biscuit for the ever hungry and maybe have some Wine seeing as the thirst is real for some, morning sharon

BovaryX · 15/02/2020 11:50

Well said. It's just appalling. And there is an article in the Telegraph discussing the increase in violent crimes against women. The situation is dysfunctional and untenable. The publicity generated by these cases means more and more people are seeing the authoritarian threat to freedom of speech. Good luck to Kate with her appeal.

RoyalCorgi · 15/02/2020 11:56

Has Kate lost her job over this or was she suspended pending the outcome of the trial?

Kate doesn't currently work. She took a Master's degree in forensic psychology last year with the aim of becoming a forensic psychologist. My understanding is that with a criminal conviction that option will no longer be open to her.

NoSharon · 15/02/2020 12:11

To be honest, I think the loss of a career seems to be a massive price to have to pay. I know she behaved poorly, but I would be devastated at such a turn of events.
I really do think we should all learn a very harsh lesson from this. As they say, don't write anything that you wouldn't be happy seen on the front page of a newspaper.

Maybe hatred and possibly anger and who knows, a few too many wines of a night might have spurred Kate into this behaviour, but she really is paying one helluva price for it.
Tbh I'm not sure which side of the fence I'm sitting on this one.

I was the victim of horrific online harassment from one poster on another website many years ago. She seemed to absolutely loathe me and would post things like 'just do everyone a favour and kill yourself' when I would post about feeling suicidal. So I do know the impact vicious communication can have on a person, but on the other hand, I do get the points posted recently about freedom of speech.
I've been the victim of 2 serious crimes and nothing was done by the police apart from lip service to investigating them. And it does feel that perhaps Stephanie brought this complaint as a point of principal, rather than perhaps having faced any real consequences (don't know if there was a victim impact statement?).

We can all learn from this.

Amalfimamma · 15/02/2020 12:16

Hayden gave evidence in court where hayden admitted going looking for Kate when her tweets to be offended.

Hayden also said that they don't care what women think and the judge had to tell them to not be so argumentative.

All the information is inn the public domain ifmyoure interested in the truth. Just don't so looking for the truth from someone who has multiple fraud convictions (amongst others ) to their name.

NoSharon · 15/02/2020 12:17

I don't really use twitter as I find it hard to follow. So I'm only going on what has been posted here.
