Positive, powerful performance of mature mums or over sexualisation of women?

OP posts:
BelleHathor · 14/02/2020 19:08

Autumn , someone who looks like me may have been shouting "Yaaas, gwan mami" 😉😂😂. They nailed it even got the African dancing on point and Shakira showing off her Lebanese heritage with the belly dancing 🙌🙌👀

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 14/02/2020 19:15

For the PP who said they could afford to say no, they weren't paid for the performance at all.

AutumnRose1 · 14/02/2020 19:19

But why would they say no?

ThePankhurstConnection · 14/02/2020 19:24

WTF has happened to this place. It used to be interesting to read but this thread is full of liberal feminist bullcrap.

SinkGirl · 14/02/2020 19:29

Just skipped through it - I’m mainly wondering why this year’s Super Bowl performance mainly features songs that were released about two decades ago?

They have a lot more energy than I do though so good for them!

AutumnRose1 · 14/02/2020 19:46

Sink - they’re classics! I imagine the Super Bowl people like to mix it up?

ememem84 · 14/02/2020 20:02

It was amazing. A real “girl power” moment if you will. They nailed it.

The fuck you to trump - the kids in cages, the born in the USA, the fact that all of their dancers were Latino or black, the “fanny slides” (as dh referred to them. Everything was spot on.

And the stamina needed to pull that off. I was exhausted just watching it.

SarahTancredi · 14/02/2020 20:15

So they obviously wanted to do it then.good for them.

Branleuse · 14/02/2020 20:23

Both have made their fortune as singer dancers. This is what they do. The whole industry is sexualised

Branleuse · 14/02/2020 20:24

Shakira in particular was incredible. What a performance. Ive watched it over and over

Coyoacan · 14/02/2020 20:26

Whao. I'm sure you and I would agree over a lot of things, but that is how people dance nowadays. Is dancing or showing one's legs anti-feminist? Is enjoying watching people dance verboten?

PerkyPomPoms · 14/02/2020 20:32

Being ‘mature Mums’ has nothing to do with their professional work - which is what they were displaying. I thought it was great.

AutumnRose1 · 14/02/2020 20:32

Actually, having wondered about the training regimen, I do also wonder how much adrenaline factors in to a one time event like that.

And I wonder how many chin ups they can do in a minute! Chin ups are my current fitness goal, I’m crap!

Does JLo know about Hot Priest listening to her song? 😂

Actually, whatever op reason for starting this thread, it’s a fun thread and hopefully lots more people will see the show!

Sagradafamiliar · 14/02/2020 20:57

It's either a bit of both or neither. Not that bothered either way really.

VortexofBloggery · 14/02/2020 23:53

I finally got a chance to watch it. I must be very old and desensitised, because I thought they looked young, beautiful with excellent knee & hip joints and the stamina of a godammned ox, and having a good time. Did I hear a little Led Zeppelin break in there? Thanks for sharing OP. Marvellous.

AutumnRose1 · 14/02/2020 23:58

Oh was the guitar part Led Zeppelin? I recognised it but couldn’t put a name to it.

ConfessionsOfTeenageDramaQueen · 15/02/2020 00:21

I loved it - thought they were both brilliant.

managedmis · 15/02/2020 00:23

Very demeaning - that guy pointing at and smacking j-lo's bum?

Gimme a break

meuca · 15/02/2020 00:29

Both singers' more recent output has largely been in Spanish, so perhaps it was felt that a full-on medley of songs in Spanish wouldn't play well to the TV audiences across the USA? Plus a lot of their recent stuff has been quite trap-influenced, which wouldn't fit too well with the mood of the show, so going for the classics was a safer bet.

There was some more recent material (eg Chantaje, though event that's a few years old now), but hey, if you went to see Madonna live, you'd want to hear her back catalogue I'm sure...

meuca · 15/02/2020 00:30

**even, not event

Antibles · 15/02/2020 00:56

Pole dancing? Nope.

There's happening to be sexy while you're doing some great dancing and then there's the writhing come hither stuff that makes me cringe a bit. I don't really know how to verbalise the difference. It's like one type is the dancing women would still do if there were no men in existence, the other grinding type is choreographed entirely for the male gaze like a dance in a strip club. Those are the cringe bits.

Oncewasblueandyellowtwo · 15/02/2020 01:23

1.I know the lyrics to more Jennifer Lopez songs that I thought I did.
2.Jennifer Lopez is a much much better singer than I thought she was.
3.Shakira plays drum and guitar. That's cool.
4.The parts with the male rappers, on both sets, was a bit off... Is this where your OP came from by any chance? A female rapper would have worked better I think.

insideandout3 · 15/02/2020 01:36

Given the number of posts and the amount if exclamation points contained in them, I'm convinced AutumnRose1 either works for J-Lo or is related to her.

PerkyPomPoms · 15/02/2020 01:36

Those male singers were off I agree

Defenbaker · 15/02/2020 01:37

Amazing!
