This has appeared on Twitter, I'm not sure of the background but suspect it's a response to the Labour Women's Declaration

It will be interesting to see how Labour handles this one.

I'd already left. Voted in most leadership elections (including for Corbyn - oops?) but how can I vote for, far less actively fund, a party that hates women?

At this point, I'll vote for whichever party protects women's rights. Women as a sex class of female people, who have been oppressed, across all cultures and all periods of history, for tens of thousands of years. The idea that someone can claim, Tinkerbell like, that a strong belief can alter material reality, and erase our hard-won rights on that basis... it's nuts. They don't need to expel me because everyone I know and love has already walked. Why fund hatred of women? No thanks.

Women are a sex class. We have the right to meet, and discuss, the ways proposed legislation (and existing legislation) affects us. The fact the trans lobby loudly argue that they have that right, but we cannot, shows just how close to the surface their toxic masculinity lies. They are loudly insisting that any male should be able to walk into any single sex women's communal space - even where we are unclothed and naked - simply by claiming to identify as a woman. That is the plain and astonishing - almost unbelievable - reality. And they continue to insist upon it, even knowing women have been raped and will continue to be raped. Men are a risk to women. Not all men, of course - but enough. And transition, whether genuine or pretended to, cannot and does not alter that risk.

I don't want to work alongside rancid misogynists for a more misogynist world! Why on earth would I? Why would anyone decent?

Great post wellbehavedwomen

I would also like to apologise to any women who voted Tory in the last election because she couldn't bring herself to vote labour or LibDem. My concern ( typical woman!) was for the most vulnerable in society and I believed (and still believe) that the Tories do not prioritise their needs.

But now there is no party who prioritises our needs. If the prospective leaders of the LP refuse to recognise women as a sex class distinct from men then they are incapable of prioritising the disadvantaged.

I've voted labour for nearly 40 years, ever since I could vote. I am absolutely heartbroken

feellikeanalien · 11/02/2020 20:35

I particularly liked the twitter comment that Labour was now the party of the "woking" class.

Fallingirl · 11/02/2020 21:24

Well, since we are ordered to accept that there is no conflict between trans rights and women’s rights, at least we can rest assured that there will be no more protests against wpuk and other groups fighting for women’s rights. Can’t we...?

FebruaryRainandSleet · 12/02/2020 11:31

'Accept that all trans women are subject to misogyny'

HOW can you be subject to misogyny when you don't have any gyny to be mis- about?

ErrolTheDragon · 12/02/2020 11:48

HOW can you be subject to misogyny when you don't have any gyny to be mis- about?

Indeed - some are subject to genuine transphobia and homophobia, but that's not the same thing. And the true misogyny of that pledge statement is that it excludes transmen - quite a lot of whom seem to be not merely the subject of misogyny but the product of it.

SauceForTheGander · 12/02/2020 11:59

The rancid anti semitism stopped me from voting for them last time and then Corbyn confirmed his pronouns ... It's really infuriating but no surprise and I did my grieving for the Labour Party over the last few years.

We desperately need an opposition and we've got this. I had hopes for Lisa Nandy though - always the hope that gets you.

wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 12/02/2020 13:57

HOW can you be subject to misogyny when you don't have any gyny to be mis- about?

It's mad.

DrudgeJedd · 12/02/2020 13:59

One of the authors of that declaration seems to be starting threads here so they can show their followers how awful we are Hmm

GCAcademic · 12/02/2020 14:05

DrudgeJedd - I'm not surprised by that. You could spot that the oh-so-disingenuous OP of that thread was a TRA from the off.

DrudgeJedd · 12/02/2020 14:08

You'd think they'd have their hands full imploding the Labour Party eh?

stillathing · 12/02/2020 14:20

I'd already given up hope of a socialist government any time soon but kept my membership going so I could vote in the least awful leader. If my local CLP got behind the women's pledge like Tottenham did I'd get involved again.

It was really horrible when the misogyny was going under the radar. Now it is out and proud. We can see who capitulates and who does not. It is hardly a good time to show that you are liable to throw away socialist principles because of loud and powerful lobbyists. Perhaps a new party will eventually form, with people capable of critical thought who understand material reality and class analysis. This could, ultimately, save socialism. But we're probably in for a rough time first.

ArranUpsideDown · 12/02/2020 15:47

One of the authors of that declaration seems to be starting threads

Bunbury does warn about threads that are started in order to harness screenshots.

That said, I don't recognise those threads - does anybody else?

EndoplasmicReticulum · 12/02/2020 15:52

Arran the couple I've seen over the past day have now been deleted.

DrudgeJedd · 12/02/2020 16:13

Yeah the thread in that screenshot was deleted not long after the tweet, guess I wasn't the only person to flag it up as suspicious.

Lordfrontpaw · 12/02/2020 16:25

Maybe we need a special little button that makes the title/posters name flash?

DrudgeJedd · 12/02/2020 16:41

That person was one of the mob outside the WPUK meeting in Brighton too. Authoritarian streak a mile wide.

ExEUCitizen · 12/02/2020 17:23

It's official, if Long-Bailey gets in. If you are female - actually biologically female - you are now not welcome in the Labour Party.

Let's hope she doesn't, because that is it. I voted Labour in the last general election. I voted with my nose held, because economically I want to see the public sector re-established and that is unlikely to happen under the Tories. I want to see buy-to-let stopped and see work actually pay again.

But that is it. No more, if that woman is made leader. Labour have betrayed me for the last time. I never thought I'd vote Tory, but there's no one else left.
