This is the second thread on the go where NothingWrong is making pronouncements on Irish views and opinions despite the fact that she doesn't live here. And here she's decreeing that we're all fucking delighted with the TRA movement and its seepage into both legislation and media wokery.

Yup, she was/is talking absolute shite and doesn't represent what people actually living in Ireland are thinking, saying, and doing.

That said, I it's also nonsense to say that people in Ireland are swallowing gender ideology unquestioningly. It's not true, but you might get that impression if you only watched RTÉ / read the IT.

But ordinary people at the school gates, on facebook and rollercoaster, down the pub... there's far greater awareness than even 2-3 years ago and it's definitely NOT all acceptance. The news of the TW housed in a women's prison? Most people were shocked and thought it was disgraceful, and there was decent coverage on radio and newspapers (i.e., not the IT). That kid on the Late Late toy show? Loads of discussion in the following days and general opinion was compassion for the bullying she had endured but that she was definitely a girl. The news of the HSE covering up criticism by Irish doctors of how the Dublin Tavi clinic prescribing hormones to minors without due diligence? People voiced real anger about that both on radio and online.

It's not helpful to catastrophise, and it's insulting to say the whole country is blindly accepting gender ideology when it's so blatantly not the case. I can see why it might be hard to voice criticisms in some workplaces (e.g., woke central like RTE or the Facebook offices), but the rest of the country isn't being cowed into silence, thanks.

Don't forget Nothingwrong's ignorant assertion on that other thread that Leo Varadkar doesn't understand Irish history because his parents are Indian. Another poster corrected her, saying actually his mother is Irish. NW again insisted that both his parents are Indian.

I don't watch rte, I came across the video on YouTube, I don't read the Irish Times is not my only new source and did post links to two other online news articles.

I'm speaking out about this more and more and am met with a mixture of disbelief and total bemusement. The initial response is usually along the lines of 'be kind, what harm are they doing you?' but I've peaked a few people when they see what's really happening. There's definitely a concerted policy of capture going on, I have a family member who is HR in a big Dublin company and she's very much on the TWAW train. I think TENI have done training with them.

My comments weren't directed as you specifically, but to the "gender ideology is the new catholic church in Ireland" trope that has popped up repeatedly on MN discussions of trans issues in Ireland. It's annoying not only because it's untrue, but because it smacks of a stereotype of stupidity and gullibility that we could really do without, and makes it sound like a lost cause when it's far from it.

Yes, things moved fast in legislation before the general public had a clue what was going on. But that's policy capture by lobbyists, not woke acceptance by the populace. The general view, when you get ordinary people talking about it, is very far from blind acceptance indeed. I'm not fond of boards.ie for many reasons, but look at this discussion of the Late Late segment that the OP is about - it's more sarky "stunning and bwaaaave" comments, sympathy for the wife, and turns into discussion of predators in women's toilets. Or another recent example is Ruth Coppinger - the wokest voice in the Dáil by a long shot - losing her seat in the election because she really wasn't in touch with her constituency.

Same as in the UK, it's the policy capture that we need to tackle, which is difficult when it comes from very well-funded lobbyists. Unquestioning wokeism on the part of the general public is not where problem lies.
