He’s on tour and I’ve just seen a Twitter post by someone saying he had a dig at Ricky Gervais’ Transphobia. That he hates Ricky Gervais is no surprise (I’m more of a Stewart Lee gal myself) but has anyone seen him live on this tour? I want to stick my fingers in my ears if he is because I bloody love his comedy.

God no. The Guilty Feminist is the Mother Superior of the handmaidens.

definitelygc · 01/03/2020 00:21

Every time someone says "I'm a feminist BUT I just spent £55 on some face cream and I'm obsessed with it" a fairy dies. Wink

HandsOffMyrights · 01/03/2020 00:53

It's not given me any ideas as to how open conversations or include people who are different to me

Not sure what you mean by this?

Or by feminism (one of your previous posts jokes about your pregnancy and your DH joking about cows and being excited by boobies) Hmm.

skorpion · 01/03/2020 09:20

Oh, good one. A reaction to a post I make in 2020 is to trawl through posts that I may have made in 2009.

My point about SL show and it not opening up conversations was exactly that - a group of people listening to a bloke on stage and agreeing with him near on 100%. It just got me thinking about how much effort it may be to see and understand somebody else's point of view if all you are exposed to are people with the same views as you. It's a hot topic in the last few years, and I only said that the show got me thinking about this again. Surely, not a bad thing?

Thanks for the link, DuLANG, looks very interesting.

HandsOffMyRights · 01/03/2020 10:43

It was a cheap shot, sorry Skorpion.

I thought your listening to others may have been aimed at FWR, where there are many different women who share similar views on thorny issues like self ID. We face regular criticism for standing up for women's rights and are told to be kind and reeducate ourselves.

I found the SL audience was mainly woke blokes, so it would be refreshing if they could see the issues from our perspective, rather than chuckling at rape jokes (no matter how clever/ironic/ taking the piss out of others, they were meant to be).

Can we crowdfund for that Brass Eye special? I’d sell an organ to see what Chris Morris could do with identity politics in 2020

Goddammit, when will I ever learn not to mention organs Grin

HandsOff, apology accepted. I would never have a dig at anybody here, not brave enough Grin. And, also, why would I be arguing with people who believe and fight for my rights, among others'?

Thinking about these issues a bit more deeply is quite new to me and I don't think I can articulate my thoughts very well. I grew up in a culture where feminism was - and still is in many parts, I fear - a dirty word and sometimes I don't think I have the language skills.

Chiochan · 01/03/2020 13:55

why are there 8 pages on this tosser?

Thelnebriati · 01/03/2020 17:13

You are Richard Herring and I claim my £5 prize.

SerendipityJane · 01/03/2020 17:17

why are there 8 pages on this tosser?

I suspect there are some people commenting on this thread solely in the hope that SL will read their comments out next gig Grin

Who is this cunt ?

originalcobra · 01/03/2020 17:17

Mates have been, said it was brilliant, and funny. He was a right miserable b'tard on stage, all part of the act though, innit?

popehilarious · 01/03/2020 18:06

If there's a boring, tedious bit in the act that's all part of it too Grin

I sometimes wonder if certain MN threads were started by Stewart Lee. Or Ted Chippington. "I was walking up the post office steps the other day, this chap came up to me, called Boswell..."

Cathymaker · 12/03/2020 11:40

I love Stewart Lee and anyone thinking he's smug is missing the point as it's part of his act. Because it is an act. Sounds like a lot of people on here hate him because they take him seriously. He's a comedian. You're not meant to take him seriously! If you do, then it's fair to say his style of comedy is not your cup of tea. Reviews for his current show are good and I'm looking forward to it.
