And we've done some work on defining and summarising the issues.
What's the best thing to do next?

Maybe we should find an articulate woman who knows all about safeguarding Gin

HandsOffMyLangCleg · 21/01/2020 21:10

Placemarking.
In the meantime, I'm in.

Agrona · 21/01/2020 21:12

Great idea, Redshoueblueshoe. The name of the person is on the tip of my Lang... I mean tongue.

Thelnebriati · 21/01/2020 21:14

It would help if you posted a list of people, situations and rights that will be affected, for those who can't see the issue.

tooyoungat40 · 21/01/2020 21:15

Count me in.

StealthPolarBear · 21/01/2020 21:16

Redshoueblueshoe I've had a good look round and I can't find the perfect person on mn.

How about using that post as the basis of creating another 'break it down for me' type thread? That one is frequently bumped to keep it up and has been incredibly useful, to flag as a quick reference in tweets and emails to MPs and all sorts as well as for new FWR visitors.

StealthPolarBear · 21/01/2020 21:18

Thelnebriati so
Patients requiring intimate care can no longer request someone of the same sex
People requiring live in social care
Etc... That sort of thing?

Thelnebriati · 21/01/2020 21:26

ScapaFlo · 21/01/2020 21:50

What's the best thing to do next?

Online? Offline? Local, regional, national?

Campaigning? Lobbying? Educating?

We could do with a Mumsnet group getting active offline, actually. Having MN local nmeetups with other concerned MNers, without necessarily joining any of the existing groups. The more the merrier, really.

One thing you could do is set aside time in the second week in March to fill in the Scottish GRA draft bill consultation and convince everyone you know to do it, too.

That's because if Scotland introduces self-id, the rest of the UK will have it too, even if the UK government doesn't. It will simply be impossible to avoid it in practice.

The more people simply say No thanks to self-id the better.

KeepCookingWithGas · 21/01/2020 22:05

Thanks for that information on the Scottish GRA Charley.

Redshoeblueshoe · 21/01/2020 22:05

Sorry Charlie but is this a second consultation ?
If so what happened to the last one or was it ditched for getting the answers wrong

CharlieParley · 21/01/2020 22:11

This is the follow up.

The first consultation, where 40% opposed self-id succeeded in that the Scottish Government decided to have a public consultation on the actual draft of the law. They were originally just going to put it before parliament.

This is now the consultation on the text and content of the new, reformed GRA as proposed - the actual law in question.

As written, it's piss poor, to be brutally honest and thoroughly offensive to other protected groups, but it's pathetically easy to refute their claims.

CharlieParley · 21/01/2020 22:13

We are working on guidance to fill this in, but I reckon your average lurker on FWR could manage to fill in the most important bits with very brief answers.

Redshoeblueshoe · 21/01/2020 22:14

Thanks Charlie, I thought I'd filled it in before.

RicketyClickety · 21/01/2020 22:34

Depends what you have in mind. A good starting point is picking a key topic and identifying key decision makers and influencers on that issue.

Mner2000 · 21/01/2020 22:44

Here to be counted as one of the 200+ and ready to do more

averylongtimeago · 21/01/2020 22:47

This sounds like a good idea-

RicketyClickety · 21/01/2020 22:50

You can count me in too.

bluejayblue · 21/01/2020 23:22

You can count me in as well.

OhHolyJesus · 21/01/2020 23:27
