"Questions are fine" Hmm

RedToothBrush · 17/01/2020 19:30

Maybe a side step approach, with questions. Eg:

"How do you ensure that scandals like the child abuse scandal in Manchester are not able to happen again?"

RedToothBrush · 17/01/2020 19:32

Maybe people should ask her directly on twitter if she asked for the webchat to be censored and @ copy in a few journalists too.

Just to make sure people are paying attention.

Ereshkigal · 17/01/2020 19:32

questions are fine, concerns are prejudiced

This makes me so angry. It's basically "believe what we tell you - if you're not sure what to believe, ask and we'll tell you what to think, but don't you dare introduce any of your own thinking".

That's right people. You heard it.

RedToothBrush · 17/01/2020 19:34

Anything that gets the good old Barbara Streisand effect in full motion...

HavelockVetinari · 17/01/2020 19:34

Bugger. Well she's lost my vote Sad

Ereshkigal · 17/01/2020 19:35

Yes, absolutely

exWifebeginsAgainat46 · 17/01/2020 19:35

it’s grimly hilarious how you are getting all hyped about boycotting the webchat. what will happen if you don’t engage? well, nothing. MN won’t have to close down under a thundercloud of embarrassment because you’re not allowed to dominate a conversation with your own endless repetitive echo chamber.

if you can’t play nice, you can’t play. it’s not difficult to understand. and if you decide you don’t want to play, and start a Secret Special Clever Thread on the side well, that’s fine. it won’t be some gigantic victory for feminism. it’ll just be the same old shit on a separate thread, which will be subject to the same moderation policy as all the other threads on this subject.

Aesopfable · 17/01/2020 19:36

Right. I have re-asked my question. Let’s see if it is deleted again. This time I asked it thus:

What is your opinion of extrajudicial punishment/policing? Do you agree with police effectively criminalising people without evidence or due process when those people have not broken any law (For example through the use of C5 notices regarding sexual behaviour, or recording of hate incidents)?

Ereshkigal · 17/01/2020 19:38

It's grimly hilarious how you've turned up on this thread to lecture women you don't agree with, don't you have anything better to do? Feel free to come and post on the super special thread. I'm sure you'll have the same excellent and reasoned arguments people like you always do have.

StealthPolarBear · 17/01/2020 19:39

Are posts still being deleted? It was easy to see when tje thread was small but harder now

exWifebeginsAgainat46 · 17/01/2020 19:40

just to add that i genuinely don’t know why you all stay here if you hate it so much. if you are all so furious at mumsnet, go set up your own forum and change the world. maybe stormfront could help you set up.

all this pissing and moaning on what is essentially a website where people complain about parking, school dinners and whether dogs are better than cats is ridiculous.

Ereshkigal · 17/01/2020 19:41

Im sure most of us are fine, thanks ExWife. No need for all the attention seeking posts.

StealthPolarBear · 17/01/2020 19:42

I'm sure we used to be able to discuss serious issues as well.

Ereshkigal · 17/01/2020 19:42

"Everyone I don't like is a Nazi!"

Ereshkigal · 17/01/2020 19:44

That's AIBU. This isn't AIBU

Errrr because MN has political influence and reach. Which is kind of important and is about the power MN has to make a difference to our lives.

A number of us have direct experience of issues relating to this subject that have had a huge impact on our lives as women.

Yes if MN claim to be about giving women power and a voice, then yes we should be able to speak about it here rather than be silenced or driven to somewhere which is completely politically irrevelant.

exWifebeginsAgainat46

U ok hun?

birdsdestiny · 17/01/2020 19:46

Seems like you are doing your own pissing and moaning on a website where people complain about parking etc etc.

OhHolyJesus · 17/01/2020 19:53

Love that idea Barracker we could then publish the list...

exWifebeginsAgainat46 · 17/01/2020 19:55

oh, is this the bit where anyone who disagrees with you is ridiculed and told to find something better to do? this is the good bit.

such vitriol for a woman who holds a different opinion. the irony is delicious.

RedToothBrush · 17/01/2020 19:58

Jess Phillips built her reputation on the back of a career dealing with domestic violence and women's rights.

If this subject is off limits it raises a lot of questions about the career and credibility of Jess Phillips and whether she still has integrity talking about issues women feel relate to this.

Its a massive part of her past and her personal reputation and career credentials.

If like saying that someone who was a doctor and is now an MP shouldn't be asked questions about their experience in the NHS.

The whole thing is a nonsense.

Its bad enough to ban questions on this subject because 'its been done before', but to do so for Jess Phillips its particularly farcial.

All it does is create the questions "what is Jess trying to avoid? what is Jess trying to hide?".

It effectively destroys all credibility she has.

MN should seriously consider this - because if its a decision they've made, its unfair on Jess and if its something Jess has stipulated it destroys her credibility even more.

It should therefore be a position that every political journalist worth their salt should be jumping up and down all over.

StealthPolarBear · 17/01/2020 19:58

I've replied politely and calmly.

RadicalFern · 17/01/2020 20:10

I'm really surprised at your denigration of mumsnet, ExWife. It's cheapening the importance of the site to dismiss it as a place where serious issues aren't discussed. This is a site where women discuss hard times, share tips to make budgets stretch so their children can be warm AND fed, get help with difficult family situations, grieve together over miscarriages, support women to leave abusive relationships, and a multitude of other real and important things. It's not just the penis beaker favourite biscuit cancel the cheque naice ham website, and hilarious (and famous) though those threads are, it's not what mumsnet is "for".
