As I've asked my question but suddenly come across this, I'll shove it here anyway. 74%, 7fucking4%.

Jess Phillips throws GC women under the bus
DeeZastris · 17/01/2020 18:06

The identity politics guff has alienated most voters. It’s up to labour if they bother listening but looks like they seem to actively enjoy losing. Let them crack on.

theflushedzebra · 17/01/2020 18:22

I agree with pp's. Jess Phillips herself has raised the spousal veto herself - it is one of policies that she will change it. Why is a question on her own policy not allowed?

Aesopfable · 17/01/2020 18:24

My question about police creating 'criminal records', which can affect employment, on the basis of individual reports without any evidence, and the lack if judicial oversight of this, has been deleted. No mention of transport or sex or gender because they were not the point if the question - which was over-reach of the police.

I'm ShockHmm that posts on that thread are being removed instead of staying up with a deletion message, as is usual.

I think it's actually worse to remove them totally as it seems MN are really trying to deny/minimise the extent of women's concerns on something that covers a wide range of areas that impact hugely on women.

Jess Philips can I ask how you feel about the principles in general of NoDebate and de platforming etc of people? This is a topic currently in the news and this week you said "questions are fine" in an interview. Your comment was in response to the interviewer saying "questions are fine, concerns are prejudiced". Do you agree that concerns are always prejudiced and shouldn't be raised, or do you believe that concerns should always be expressed, especially if large numbers of a particular group (eg women) share these concerns?

Oh fucks sake sorry wrong thread

Ereshkigal · 17/01/2020 18:37

I'm fine with questions too. And I'm also fine with keeping the pressure on when the answers aren't remotely good enough. I don't care what you think about it.

HTH Jess and Juno.

StealthPolarBear · 17/01/2020 18:39

Apparently they will let her know if any issues are of concern to many Mners but how will they know if once there has been one post about an issue we're not allowed any more?

StealthPolarBear · 17/01/2020 18:42

I started a thread to get a general sense of the levels if concern... Tumbleweed

TildaKauskumholm · 17/01/2020 18:44

Why don't we, en masse, just not bother with the webchat at all, if we are not allowed to ask what we need answering in order for us to decide on our vote? Seems like a waste of everyone's time.

StealthPolarBear · 17/01/2020 18:46

Oh dear veering into women's right again

theflushedzebra · 17/01/2020 18:55

I didn't see your thread, Stealth - just posted on there now.

Aesopfable · 17/01/2020 18:58

Tilda I suspect that is what MNHQ are hoping for: the posters will ask Jess what her favourite biscuit is how the Labour Party will support breastfeeding by men

RedToothBrush · 17/01/2020 18:58

If there is ONE trans question to ask Jess Phillips it needs to be something to do with TransWidows or kids of trans people and how they are forced to comply.

RedToothBrush · 17/01/2020 19:04

Let me guess, the webchat was agreed to on the condition that certain safeguarding issues could not be discussed?

I'd like a straight answer on whether this is the case from MNHQ.

Honestly, a politician should face ALL questions, ESPECIALLY ones about safeguarding in the light of trying to work out why safeguarding scandals like the Manchester Child Abuse scandal happened. NOTHING should be off limits. Certainly not in the name of being politically correct. A politician should be able to address 'politically incorrect questions' and answer they appropriately. If they can't they shouldn't be representing the members of a local dogwalking club, never mind leading the country in parliament.

Barracker · 17/01/2020 19:08

I propose we start the Alternative webchat thread.
One for all the forbidden questions.
Jess Phillips won't be on it, of course, but resourceful mumsnetters will be able to source and provide any prior quotes, verbatim of course, from her to give a flavour of her position.

We can run it in FWR at the same time as the stage managed webchat.

Should any savvy journo be curious about the banned questions, or what the women of Mumsnet are really interested in asking Jess, they could wander over for a compare and contrast.

Just an idea.

RedToothBrush · 17/01/2020 19:10

This issue has dominated previous webchats, which we don’t think is fair to our guests nor to the entire Mumsnet user community, some of whom have said they felt put off joining in - not something any MN user has said to us about multiple questions on other topics.

Perhaps the reasons its dominated previous chats and continues to dominate concerns is because politicians keep failing to listen and represent the interests of women and children on this issue and this is a major oversight because of the implications of this???

Can you imagine if we had been told that we can't talk about housing or austerity or something else because it'd be talked about a lot before?

Errrrrrr.... no.

Its being raised time and again FOR A REASON.

Ponder on that.

RedToothBrush · 17/01/2020 19:12

Is someone afraid of being 'Jo Swinsoned'?

If you can't hack the difficult questions on a MN webchat, what do you think will happen if Jess becomes leader come the next election?

This issue isn't going away.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 17/01/2020 19:12

That's a good idea, Barracker. I quite like the thought of doing that for various people, with quotes all referenced. Grin

Mockers2020Vision · 17/01/2020 19:14

It's typical of youse lot to keep asking the question just because nobody can come up with a comprehensible answer to it.

Ereshkigal · 17/01/2020 19:15

Great idea, Barracker. Count me in!

TinselAngel · 17/01/2020 19:17

I'm very disappointed my question about the Spousal Exit Clause ("veto") was deleted.

I never thought Mumsnet would silence trans widows.

rodgmum · 17/01/2020 19:23

I’m in as well Barracker . I would have asked about lobby group influence/pressure on schools to positively affirm children despite that being against the Tavi’s recommendations. This directly impacts my family but there’s no point in my asking as I have done so before in other web chats- just deleted with a slap on the wrist for me by email. It’s not worth the upset it causes me (the slap on the wrist) so I don’t bother with the webchats now.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 17/01/2020 19:28

So, MN are deleting the questions Jess doesn't want to answer. How fucking ridiculous is that woman. She should be ashamed of herself.
