Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Female prisoners in Scotland

BovaryX · 17/01/2020 08:12

SNP Kenneth Gibson asks if female prisoners shower with anatomical males.

I have been advised by our recently retired governor that there is at least one female prison where anatomically male prisoners and female prisoners are expected to shower together,” Mr Gibson told the Chamber. “Can you advise on whether or not that is the case?

The Justice Minister's response? He 'doesn't know the answer' to that question. Meanwhile, Sturgeon says as a 'lifelong feminist' it's important to protect trans rights.

Yeah the justice minister said it’s fine to record men’s crimes as women’s crimes now

Just fine.

Who cares

Not Scottish government.

Shower with a man when you have no choice

Who cares

Not Scottish government

First minister says

I am a feminist

Women in Scotland having to meet in secret in 2020.

Women in Scotland having to meet in secret in 2020

Seriously littlebrowndog? That's crazy. It's like marching backwards at top speed.....

Well perhaps he'd better fucking find out.

DeeZastris · 17/01/2020 08:37

Sturgeon is not a feminist. She’s a progressive - very different.

BovaryX · 17/01/2020 08:38

Ereshkigal here's the quote, just bonkers, the whole thing

I don’t know the answer to that exact question,” Mr Humza replied, “but it is the case that there will be transgender women who are within the female prison estate. I would be surprised if the situation is as Kenneth Gibson has suggested. I will look into the concerns that he has raised.”

There's something very regressive about so many 'progressives'.....

From a twitter feed from someone who went to meeting below

I've had my secret instructions about where to go for a meeting tonight of (mainly) women who want to discuss proposed legislation changes by the Scottish Gov. Why should women have to take such precautions for our safety over a legal meeting in 2020 to discuss women's rights?

littlbrowndog · 17/01/2020 08:47

More from people belowv attending

In Edinburgh & chuffed to be attending the @ForwomenScot event this evening. People meeting to discuss women's rights in 20thC at undisclosed location is ridiculous but onwards & upwards all 😊 @joannaccherry @MForstater @KatieSBarker @WG_Scotland @hughgmeechan @MichealConraoi

Wow. The fact that women in the 21st century West feel so intimidated by 'progressives' about meeting openly to discuss legislative changes? It's an indictment of the current climate. Galloping backwards at top speed

I wouldn't in the slightest. Mr Humza may want to take his fingers out of his ears and wake the fuck up. It's rather like the idiot ex Womens and Equalities for Males MP who insisted females would only ever be expected to use mixed sex facilities if they were single separate enclosed rooms, floor to ceiling.

Below from Sa Somerville on twitter

Clarification on risk assessment in prisons following #fmqs - SPS risk assessment process in relation to accommodating a trans person takes full account of any risks they may present to other prisoners, to staff and to themselves

littlbrowndog · 17/01/2020 09:59

Response from Chris macelny. I can’t speel his name. But he is in SNP

Translates as: Trans men (woman who have transitioned to be men) don’t get put in men’s prisons because of the risk to them but trans women get put in a women’s prison despite the risk to woman.

That’s an actual example of women’s sex based rights being breached already.

That's an excellent summary of this discriminatory practice. Good on Chris M!

Well, the meeting is definitely not a secret meeting with secret instruction if that was posted to Twitter by an attendee. Cover blown.

PlanDeRaccordement · 17/01/2020 10:06

They should have a separate prison block for transwomen who have not transitioned fully. It’s a valid safety issue.

littlbrowndog · 17/01/2020 10:14

How’s that plan?

littlbrowndog · 17/01/2020 10:15

Some ppl don’t put their true name on twitter.

Igneococcus · 17/01/2020 12:31

There is an article in the Scottish section of the Times today:

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/trans-inmates-won-t-get-jail-choice-8l8kmnnhs?shareToken=dd80ece8f5e9bbf13b4d639e03c4baf2

Humza Yousaf thinks that the planned reforms will have no impact on prisoner accommodation, nothing at all to worry about, he says.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 17/01/2020 12:41

Trans men (woman who have transitioned to be men) don’t get put in men’s prisons because of the risk to them but trans women get put in a women’s prison despite the risk to woman.

Christ, when you put it like that ...

ScrimshawTheSecond · 17/01/2020 12:44

so the new consultation, accordint to Sturgeon is to 'convince those that have concerns about this that there is not a tension and there is not an inevitable conflict between trans rights and womens' rights, and that is work that is underway'.

That word, 'consultation', I do not think it means what you think it means ...

AnyOldPrion · 17/01/2020 12:48

From the Times article:

“Mr Yousaf said: “Acquiring a gender recognition certificate does not and will not give a prisoner any new legal rights regarding the decisions made by the Scottish Prison Service about their accommodation.”

All smoke and mirrors again. The only reason self-ID will not give any new legal rights is because they have already introduced self-ID for prisoners. But anyone reading this who did not know that would feel assured that nothing was changing as they would assume nobody would be so stupid as to put intact men in a women’s prison.
