Appeared in my local newspaper today: www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/outage-after-trans-woman-sent-17571703

A support group for transgender people has hit out at a judge who sentenced a trans woman to a male only prison

Is this really true? What value does freedom have if journalists have to print lies?

Yes, it's true. See the IPSO guidelines for rules on pronouns etc. and this by Julie Bindel:

Just read that Twitter link erishkegal, I am yet again gobsmacked by what is going on.

What happened to "publish and be damned"?

It really is like 1984.

SetYourselfOnFire · 16/01/2020 00:32

Living as Tamara for 15 years? Hmmmmm. I do appreciate when they run pictures, like with the transwoman Mia Williams who set a woman on fire at Target, or Ralayzia Taylor, the tragic victim of a transphobic hatchet attack...which turned out to be retaliation for raping a 15 year old boy.

Creepster · 16/01/2020 01:09

Seems like the press have discovered a useful formula for getting clicks: ridiculous/outrageous text that complies with TRA pronoun rules, combined with a truthful photo. It must make for good sharing material -not many news stories have punchlines.

Journalists in Canada started posting photos with the stories when C-16 passed. They resented being required by law to lie.

ImFineThankYouSusan · 16/01/2020 04:37

"Williams, who has been living as Tamara for nearly 15 years"

(x) doubt

NearlyGranny · 16/01/2020 05:04

Interesting that simply being placed amongst men is seen by the organisation as extra 'punishment', though. Is there something wrong with men in general? Could this be why many women aren't so keen on having men in traditionally female-only spaces?

Is it somehow only punishment for TW to be forced into the company of men against their will and not for the boring regular sort of women? What happened to TWAW? Surely all of us have to put up with it without grumbling or none of us?

How does this make consistent sense?

If TW really are a special protected group with extra needs and rights, let's put taxpayers' money to work providing separate, safe facilities for them. Oh, and for TM too, of course. Prison cells, loos, changing rooms, the lot.

Could the TM and TW share, actually?

Coughy4u · 16/01/2020 05:28

Could the TM and TW share, actually?
Oooh brain gymnastics!

It's absolutely ridiculous. What's living as Tamara even mean?!

DryHeave · 16/01/2020 05:36

When will the world come to its senses? Women are, generally, smaller and less strong than men and susceptible to pregnancy.

Our biology is the basis of why we need female-only spaces, and the basis of why women have been oppressed and owned, coerced and controlled for hundreds of thousands of years.

It’s not a fringe & a ‘feminine’ name (whatever that is anyway).

Right so campaigners want their particular social group to be immune from being sent to prison at all. Hmm So normal standards of fairness and justice for any other group of people are being actively campaigned against while they call for total impunity and privilege for their own group. Sure, nothing to see here..

Mockers2020Vision · 16/01/2020 08:12

Right so campaigners want their particular social group to be immune from being sent to prison at all...

A group defined by Self-ID, so anyone who says they are part of the group can never be imprisoned no matter what crime they commit.

"We stand against the prison system, and all the violence that it enacts and enables"

AFTH Edinburgh made a specific demand that all trans prisoners be released. Which is so barmy that nobody really knows what to say other than "wait, what?"

NonnyMouse1337 · 16/01/2020 08:51

When I first started listening to my doubts about trans ideology and was beginning to look around for info, I came across AFTH Edinburgh, read their manifesto and was Confused Confused Confused

I took the woke righteous commandment to 'educate myself' and look how that turned out. Xmas Grin

Read the Twitter thread I posted below. It deals with another, ahem, interesting case of this nature coveted by the Liverpool Echo court reporters. The reporter gives his reason

Yes, I remember that case, but hadn't seen the photos before now.......assumed it was a woman.

It must be a very sobering occupation being a court reporter. I, myself, sat through a whole month of a pretty gruesome murder trial, in Liverpool crown court, some years ago.......and the characters who took the stand, and the friends and family in the galleries, offered a pretty revealing, and often shocking glimpse into the way that many people live their lives.

Wasn't that flasher part of the 'ban prison' movement? Jess Bradley.

Lordfrontpaw · 16/01/2020 11:01

Whatever happened to the case?

ScrimshawTheSecond · 16/01/2020 11:08

It seems to have disappeared without trace, mysteriously. Even Jess Bradley's not coming up in searches. I found this, from Jess's ex spouse

ThePurported · 16/01/2020 11:27

Jess Bradley who was on the panel for the government's trans equality committee?

I think this was the most recent thread

What happened to the criminal investigation?

Lordfrontpaw · 16/01/2020 11:30

Can be reading that - uses the T word.

ChattyLion · 16/01/2020 20:12

Good grief. that blog... what are the NUS thinking?!

ScrimshawTheSecond · 16/01/2020 20:24

' NUS Officers are being paid indirectly by the taxpayer to cover up what are essentially crimes, and no-one will touch it with a barge pole because of the raging public debate over trans rights and no-one wants to be seen attacking trans people. But at its heart this has nothing to do with trans people and is a straight-forward case of lewd sexual misconduct being covered up by publicly funded bureaucrats with massive conflicts of interest.'

That bit? .
