Cry Me A Bloody River: Article about the Pathetic Plight of Period-Plagued Trans Men

Lord, shrink me a violin so I can play my sad little heart out about the very very very special pain that our uteri having brothers have in getting and using period products. According to this article, period products are expensive, embarrassing, and inaccessible. Whereas for boring old Cisters, they are apparently free, and we gaily run through our offices waving tampons like torches and flapping our pads like happy handpuppets. Oh and we find them somehow "in stores?" Another interesting factlet: TM find it embarrassing to rip open tampon packages in the men's room. Much as women might feel if, um, males were allowed in the women's room? Just sayin.

"Some transgender and gender-nonconforming people who menstruate, like Jones, say when the products are categorized as women’s products, they can feel alienated — and may even avoid purchasing them altogether"

There isn't much to be done about this level of stupidity but stop encouraging them

Perhaps on the next episode of the apprentice Sir Alan can set his protegees the task of marketing tampons to men?

*What are they using....

DeeZastris · 12/01/2020 23:12

The amount of transmen, globally, having periods is statistically irrelevant. Why must we waste energy even thinking about it?

Melroses · 12/01/2020 23:13

The amount of transmen, globally, having periods is statistically irrelevant

Especially if they each only have them for appx one year.

And surely most of them would take the pill where you don't get periods anyway as they presumably have no interest in getting pregnant?!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 12/01/2020 23:23

With regard to the ‘embarrassment’ or ‘risk’ of having to carry tampons or towels to the loo - let’s not forget that the brave and strumming trans men get to wear men’s clothing - with their generous pockets!

Women don’t get that privilege.

Melroses · 12/01/2020 23:26

Read my link upthread. This person's period stopped on taking puberty blockers at age 16 (having started at age 15)

So they didn't have that many periods.

GothMummy · 12/01/2020 23:27

Im going off topic here I know but seriously, those of you who think using 36 tampons in one peroid is mad are so, so very lucky.... Mine have always been very heavy and last around 10 days. I use more than 36! So I think that's an unfair criticism. I actually have a lot of sympathy for anyone struggling with menstruation issues, however they identify. I suffer a lot each month and I'm sorry for any one else who does as well. It's expensive, painful and messy.

JanuaryIsNotTheOnlyMonth · 12/01/2020 23:27

Well, there are actually free tampons and towels in my daughter’s school. A friend of hers started taking some in to leave in a box in the girls’ toilets, and now there is a ‘take if you need, leave some if you have spares’ policy.

They haven’t organised this for the boys’ loos, but in theory any transboys there could do the same, I suppose.

Findumdum1 · 12/01/2020 23:33

1 year!!

They're moaning about having to put up with 12 periods! Wow

Melroses · 12/01/2020 23:34

Quite! 12 boxes of tampons.

Melroses · 12/01/2020 23:35

How many articles can you make that into! LOL

RedToothBrush · 13/01/2020 00:03

Perhaps they just need to 'man up' and buy sanitary products without being a baby like 'real men' do. Strangely enough, men can buy sanitary products just like the other 50% of the population, if they choose to do so. They don't spontaneously combust if they do so.

Or perhaps its all about ridiculous gender stereotypes and being in denial about biological sex (which is a social construct remember folks) and the whole story is utter bullshit which erases / distorts the actual everyday reality of women who are the boring gender atheists and don't believe in the gender fairy.

Obviously these transmen aren't proper trans cos if they were they wouldn't be bothered by mother nature once a month otherwise. Cos biology is all made up nonsense. They best get on the case and get that surgery and become true believers.

Honestly if you can read that trite with a straight face and believe in it, then I give up. You are beyond reason.

Melroses · 13/01/2020 00:37

I suspect his mum bought them anyway.

MashedSpud · 13/01/2020 00:48

I’m also concerned about the environmental waste for these role play periods.

Fieldofgreycorn · 13/01/2020 01:14

play my sad little heart out about the very very very special pain that our uteri having brothers have in getting and using period products.

You are literally and shamelessly mocking a person’s severe gender dysphoria.

OccasionalKite · 13/01/2020 01:32

You are literally and shamelessly mocking women and girls. Please stop doing that

Men are not women, because of human biology.

Purpleartichoke · 13/01/2020 02:02

I’m 4 days into my period and I’ve used more than 36 ultra tampons. It’s easy when you soak through them in an hour or less. Yes, I have consulted a doctor on more than one occasion. I’m trying to avoid a hysterectomy because of other issues and it’s not a crazy approach because I’m fast approaching menopause. Managing my period in the workplace is a real burden.

But an individual being upset about needing to use hygiene products designed for their body? I’d like to say I have no time for that, but it honestly makes me angry. Nothing described there is a real problem.

Durgasarrow · 13/01/2020 03:43

I feel as if we have forgotten the value of having negative feelings these days. If you have an encounter with reality and it makes you sad because it doesn't meet your hopes of what you desire to be true, that sadness may not be a bad thing. It can be helpful, because your hopes may be an illusion, and it is better to live in the real. On some level, surely, any reasonably sane person who is bleeding out of his/her/zir vagina must know what we all fucking know: that is a female only experience.

Reusable pads. Cheap to make yourself. Customised to have whatever you want as the top fabric or no colour at all.
Simple.
