Transgender musician cancels gig after being 'banned' from using women's toilet

stumbledin · 30/12/2019 00:19

Once again the power of the trans lobby has turned a story in which a member of staff behaved correctly - ie saying the women's toilets were for biological females, not somebody who has an identity.

But now the management are saying the staff will get training as they too seem to have swallowed the trans reality pill that says the EA protects trans but not women.

As usual most of the comments are just snigger, snigger although one has said what about how the women using the toilets fees.

Yet again the mainstream media, either because they just cant be bothered or have had Stonewall trainging publish reports that are actually not factual.

The trans tide just keeps on rolling on engulfing anyones who tries to stand in its way.

A clearer picture of Amelia here:images.app.goo.gl/gab2VBoieZFRBkmn7

Incredible that the female customers didn't recognise Amelia's inherent femininity. Terribly transphobic of the venue to offer a compromise which met Amelia's needs but allowed women privacy.

Still, they have learned that resistance is futile. Hopefully the manager has been 're-educated'.

NotTerfNorCis · 30/12/2019 00:52

Also here.

The big question is: if a male person claims to be female, is that person female, or a male claiming to be female?

If the first - what is female?

Agrona · 30/12/2019 01:00

I prefer this version:

Amelia said: "Be an ally to trans people women. Speak out and speak up against ignorance and prejudice, we need you and your voice. There is zero place for transphobia misogyny or discrimination in modern society."

xJodiex · 30/12/2019 01:17

Angry not a single thought for the women who don't want the person in there.

Ereshkigal · 30/12/2019 02:01

"It is illegal for anyone to to tell or suggest to any individual which facilities they can or cannot use in any establishment. It is discrimination, period.
"Transgender people have protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010."
The act states that establishments that provide separate services for women and men are required to treat transsexual people in the same way as the gender they present as.

Not true. Stonewall law.

Thank you for fixing that @Agrona

Clymene · 30/12/2019 05:57

So Amelia wasn't forced to use the men's toilets, putting Amelia at risk? So nothing to do with wanting to pee safely and in peace and everything to do with validation and making a political point.

AnyOldPrion · 30/12/2019 06:19

The counter to this is that perhaps venues which don’t want to upset their female customers might think twice about booking this band, who behaved in a highly unprofessional manner.

Kit19 · 30/12/2019 07:53

Ahhhhh they work at Bristol university - that famously women friendly university

DeeZastris · 30/12/2019 08:15

More evidence that TRAs love bossing around working class people.

Seems to be a lot of bar staff, retail workers, receptionists, bouncers etc are supposed to have a crystal ball and know that someone who looks like a natal Male is actually a woman. 🤦‍♀️ TRAs genuinely seem to think people on minimum wage, zero hour contracts deserve to lose their jobs because they didn’t validate them.

JellySlice · 30/12/2019 08:22

Hopefully the training that will be put in place at the venue will be to teach staff not to ask about trans status in any way, but to counter that the Equality Act states that trans people must not be discriminated against relative to their sex, therefore it would be illegal to ban any male from using the men's loos on the basis of their presentation or self-identification. Also that the EA specifically permits barring trans-identified people from opposite-sex services when reasonable - eg loos, where it is reasonable to protect the safety and dignity of women.

Something along those lines, though more succinct and clear than I have put it.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 30/12/2019 08:32

The idea that working class people in service jobs are there to validate TRAs comes up again and again.

In this case I'm not sure how the service worker in question was meant to know that this particular performer considered themself to be anything other than what they appear to be at a quick glance. Who knew that psychic powers were meant to come standard?

Yes, it does. And serfs to be sacked if they don't come up to sufficiently deferential scratch. They might as well demand we doff our caps.

JellySlice · 30/12/2019 09:42

A bit tenuous, I think, given that wokie practices are usually imposed upon employees by institutions/organisations/companies in an uninvited top-down manner, and then it's those employees, the actual service providers, who bear the brunt of service-users anger. Service-users and service-providers of all classes and all philosophies.

severnboring · 30/12/2019 10:07

Amelia doesn't just work at Bristol Uni, Amelia is one of their role models doncherknow... here's one of Amelia's Equality and Diversity workshops at the uni called 'Girl Brain Boy Body':

www.bristol.ac.uk/inclusion/training-and-events/inclusion-matters-events/theirstories-amelia-pereira-.html

Here's Amelia getting a Diversity Award with the uni staff LGBT network, hurrah!

bristolthreads.co.uk/home/lgbt-staff-network-wins-at-bristol-diversity-awards

Hurrah for Bristol Uni all round - teaching everyone about girl brains and making sure students are free to call their peers like Raquel Rosario Sanchez 'scum' and tell them to go home:

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/bullying-by-trans-student-at-bristol-university-could-cost-me-my-visa-7pzr3b7lv

More on uni trans takeover here: ''What better way to achieve the Diversity Trust’s anti-racism objectives than by supporting a bullying campaign against Sanchez, a young immigrant woman?
Allison Bailey stated that this bullying ‘is specifically targeted at women, viciously, and especially viciously at women of colour.’
The University of Bristol signed the roadmap’s trans pledge in July 2018, and dropped the disciplinary case against Mx Shall in June 2019. Two weeks later, the Pro-Vice Chancellors for International Students and for Student Experience were pledging allegiance to the trans flag at Bristol Pride.''

And yes, retail and service staff on min wage bear the brunt of most of this.

JellySlice · 30/12/2019 10:14

And yes, retail and service staff on min wage bear the brunt of most of this.

I agree. But I think it's circumstance rather than a deliberate classist action. The damage done by trans ideology is a perfect example of true intersectionality.

severnboring · 30/12/2019 10:22

I don't think it's a deliberate classist action, but I do think it's very revealing of hypocrisy from many people who claim to have the 'interests of the working class' at heart.

Was having convo the other day about how TRAs behave aristocratically - 'address me thus, please me in every detail otherwise I can ruin your life, my needs are more important than any effect on others'

ThePurported · 30/12/2019 11:26

So Amelia wasn't forced to use the men's toilets, putting Amelia at risk? So nothing to do with wanting to pee safely and in peace and everything to do with validation and making a political point.

Just looked at the photos.
'At risk'
'Pee safely'
my arse.

Ask your families to pick the TG person out of the band photo.

Clymene · 30/12/2019 11:44

I note that the staff member and presumably the customer who complained were both women.

And it's not working class people who are disproportionately affected, it's working class women.

Middle class women aren't sharing a shower room in prison with someone with a penis

Michelleoftheresistance · 30/12/2019 13:13

I wonder if Amelia gives a fuck about female people Amelia is rendering spaceless in their quest to have all boundaries removed for them personally?

And again with the 'educated'..... so, so tired of this entitled, whiny, selfish, sexist and authoritarian bullshit, and not being allowed to call it out for precisely what it is. You can educate me all day and twice on Sundays and I still know exactly what's going on here.

NotAssigned · 30/12/2019 15:24

How do we get the message to the establishment in question that they are perfectly within their rights to exclude a TW from the ladies?

Because we can post on here and twitter all we like but Stonewall will be the one with their foot in the door misleading them about the law.

If the TW was not prepared to use the disabled loo then it was not a pee they were after, it was validation.

Soubriquet · 30/12/2019 15:27

If I walk into a toilet, and see a transwoman in there, I think I would probably walk out and find somewhere else.
