[[https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/paedophile-prisoner-loses-gender-surgery-bid-256st7r0k]] That should be a link to The Times with a share token.
The 60-year-old, known only as KK for legal reasons, had sought reassignment surgery after she transitioned from male to female while in jail. She has been in prison for more than a decade serving an indefinite sentence for public protection for making indecent photographs of children. ...In September 2006, she was sentenced as a man after being convicted of making indecent photographs of children. She has previous convictions for possessing or downloading indecent images of children and a conviction for sexual assault over four years on a girl aged between 12 and 16.
The NHS has refused to do the surgery and KK has lost a legal challenge. WPATH, predictably, thinks prisoners shouldn't be discriminated against and should be able to get this surgery on demand.
The article says KK is currently in an open prison, but doesn't say whether it's in the men's or women's estate. The former, I hope. Women in an open prison are very likely indeed to have children and/or to have experienced sexual abuse themselves. Children might visit, there might be a mother and baby unit. A prisoner with a record like KK's should be kept well away from vulnerable women and children.
Notable that most of the comments under the line are outraged that The Times is using she/her pronouns for KK.
