Maya lost - can it be true?

I'm not saying it is true - Twitter isn't known for being wedded to truth...anyone able to shed light? I thought the verdict wasn't due for a while...

Lumene why do you think maya's argument wasn't legally sound?

DeeZastris · 18/12/2019 20:14

Can this be appealed?

Sexnotgender · 18/12/2019 20:15

I have no words other than WHAT.THE.FUCK

ChattyLion · 18/12/2019 20:15

Oh fuck no. What happens now?

RoyalCorgi · 18/12/2019 20:15

It means any of us now could be sacked for believing in biological reality.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 18/12/2019 20:15

Yes, in the closing paragraph, Bovary. It's riddled with spelling errors and/or typos.

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 18/12/2019 20:16

That was recognised in the Gender Recognition Act which states that the change of sex applies for “all purposes”.

But this is not correct. He's wrong.

The GRA specifically names many exceptions when the person needs to be treated as their actual sex. Sports. Inheritance. Titles. Etc.

It's also lawful under the Equality Act to recognise biological sex, even when someone has a GRC.

This judgment is bullshit.

teawamutu · 18/12/2019 20:17

I'm not going NEAR twitter again tonight. I don't think I could bear it.

JellySlice · 18/12/2019 20:17

Oh dear god.

I did worry that statements based on science and empirical fact would not count as a philosophical belief, but did not expect this interpretation of Maya's words.

I don't understand this Grainger ruling or criteria that the judge references, but some of his statements seem totally self-contradictory.

This is terrifying.

CrissmussMockers · 18/12/2019 20:17

I'm an anarchist, yer onnah.

I have a sincerely held belief that all property is theft.

So those are my sparkles I found in the Ecclestone Totty's gaff.

pallisers · 18/12/2019 20:19

that the Gender Recognition Act produces a mere legal fiction. It
provides a right, based on the assessment of the various interrelated
convention rights, for a person to transition, in certain circumstances, and thereafter to be treated for all purposes as the being of the sex to which they have transitioned

That simply isn't true. A woman transitioning can't claim a male title.

I think this is worth reposting. How can a woman be told she is wrong for maintaining the truth of biological reality but the House of Lords and the entire British legal system is fine when they maintain it for their own purposes.

EvenSupposing · 18/12/2019 20:19

So now a judge has said 'all purposes' and I know it's not precedent setting but...

Do any of you have an elder brother who is going to inherit it all??

snowblight · 18/12/2019 20:19

I'm not going NEAR twitter again tonight. I don't think I could bear it.

What's happening there?

EvenSupposing · 18/12/2019 20:20

X post with pallisers.

They really can't have it both fucking ways.

smileylottie87 · 18/12/2019 20:21

Unbelievable, the judgement doesn't seem logical and has incorrectly applied the law in at least one instance.

I'm gutted. If you can, keep fighting Maya and thank you for what you have already done Wine

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 18/12/2019 20:21

I guess my first question is can she appeal, and the second is whether she needs us to dig?
This is just horrifying.

BarbaraStrozzi · 18/12/2019 20:21

Sonic I hope the passage you quote: That was recognised in the Gender Recognition Act which states that the change of sex applies for “all purposes” is grounds for appeal as it looks to me like a straightforward legal error. Whether Maya has the funds to pursue an appeal is another matter.

teawamutu · 18/12/2019 20:21

How would we be celebrating if she'd won?

SetYourselfOnFire · 18/12/2019 20:21

So what do we know about the people behind the ruling and who they get money from and associate with? Yeah, I went there.

SophoclesTheFox · 18/12/2019 20:22

I’ve skimmed it now.

In essence, Maya has absolutist beliefs because she understands how humans make babies.

Speech may now be compelled, because disagreeing with people violates their dignity.

The Supreme Court got Asher wrong?

Describing an aggressive person with a penis and a beard (Gregor M) as a man is not now allowed, as it is incompatible with that persons human dignity.

HOW MANY FINGERS WINSTON?

mement0mori · 18/12/2019 20:23

But this is not correct. He's wrong

He is quoting from the Act. But it's a very selective interpretation.

"Where a full gender recognition certificate is issued to a person, the person’s gender becomes for all purposes the acquired gender"

pombear · 18/12/2019 20:24

Clair, one of the defence witnesses, you know, non-binary Clair, is celebrating.

twitter.com/_ClairQuentin/status/1207345759877836800

I'm going to tread very carefully here, as I'd like to stay a little longer.

Clair. Who was 'assigned male at birth'.

Clair. Who has 'helped in the reproductive process by way of providing the small gametes side of it' of producing several children.

Clair. Who was in a goth band several years' ago.

Clair. Who now likes to present in women's clothing.

Clair. Who doesn't define themselves as a transwoman.

Clair. Who is looking for validation by using toilets for all.
twitter.com/_ClairQuentin/status/1201921619419115521

Validation.

That's the name of the fucking game. And all women are fair game in this controlling male war on women.

As often on FWR. We see you. And many of us know you.

RuffleCrow · 18/12/2019 20:24

Batshit judge with a vested interest, i bet.

They're into all kinds of kinky stuff some of these these bewigged and begowned types.

As it's a tribunal i'm guessing the title, the gown and the wig are more metaphorical than actual. But still.

wellthatwasthat · 18/12/2019 20:25

Why don't people understand that you can't change chromosomes?

Devereux1 · 18/12/2019 20:25

One day, and I have a feeling now it may come sooner after December 12th, this insanity will be revealed for the Handmaid's Tale nightmare that this all is.

But in the meantime, just stay strong, stick to reality, don't buy into their insanity.

Yet today I was forwarded something about the British Psychological Society. They are looking for people for some kind of equality and diversity committee/taskforce. You might think this is a great opportunity for psychologists, who you know, are supposed to regard people and the human mind based on evidence and science, to lead the illustration of our current madness across society.

But no, this is not going to be a series of Psychology experts examining the issues. The agenda is there from the outset: welcome marginalized groups, promote their engagement at every level (WTF), promote increasing entry of these groups and the BPS wants to recruit those from these LGBTQ+ backgrounds, despite psychologists across the globe contesting the very label of LGBTQ+ in the first place, and psychologists disagreeing that there's any + at all.

No psychologist worth their salt would apply for such a Taskforce with such a biased agenda and point of view being rammed through every criteria.
