I'm not saying it is true - Twitter isn't known for being wedded to truth...anyone able to shed light? I thought the verdict wasn't due for a while...

I'm not going to say anything else tonight, for MN account preservation purposes. Hopefully, my rage will have subsided sufficiently to post tomorrow.

One thing though: I will never submit.

So TWAW all the time, but TMAM until it comes to peerages or inheritance.....sexist claptrap no?

Maya thank you for bringing this case to court, it exposes the madness, we are many behind you.

smileylottie87 · 18/12/2019 22:44

@JellySlice I didn't read that part, apologies for that I didn't mean to cause any offence

StealthPolarBear · 18/12/2019 22:45

"
On the topic of Clair, I’m sure it’s been explained before, but I still don’t know how “trans non binary” can be a thing.

Identifying as trans means crossing from one part of a binary to the other but being non binary means being outside of that binary. So where is Clair? confused"

Smile and nod dear. Your logic isn't welcome any more.

Michelleoftheresistance · 18/12/2019 22:45

So TWAW all the time, but TMAM until it comes to peerages or inheritance.

The judge himself does not believe TWAW in all circumstances and specifically talks about times when separate provision for TW to females should be made because of the impact on females. As if he's aware of a biological fundamental difference there that matters.

While talking at length that it's absolutely against dignity and human rights and acceptability as a whole to believe that there are only two sexes and that TW should ever be referred to or treated as anything but W.

Square that circle if you can without using the word 'batshit'.

theflushedzebra · 18/12/2019 22:50

Well, in that case, I think we should fight for transmen to be able to inherit under primogeniture - outdated crap that it is - I notice the men in power made sure that their sons were safe from women identifying as male and taking away their rights.

Women, though, according to them, can fuck off and lose their legal protections.

If a GRC makes you the sex you identify as, then women should be able to identify as male and inherit land/titles, under primogeniture.

Primogeniture is clearly an exception under the GRA that is discriminatory. If we're going to lose our exemptions, and protections under the legally protected category of biological sex, the males can lose theirs too.

Michelleoftheresistance · 18/12/2019 22:53

Judgement also skips right over the right of someone NOT to be compelled to participate in and enact a belief they do not hold.

Or that objective perception outweighs subjective self perception. Obviously. In law. Because the whole legal process including evidence as opposed to seeing whether the person identifies as guilty.

Continuing to drive an arctic truck in and out of these holes.....

Al1ceinWinterWonderland · 18/12/2019 22:54

Oh Maya, I’m so very sorry. I have no words, at least none that would be compatible with any sort of dignity.

I hope that journalists pick this up and that there are grounds for an appeal.

NotTerfNorCis · 18/12/2019 22:56

TRAs believe they are the most oppressed people on Earth.

But take it for granted that they can suppress any dissent.

The truth is, they are the opposite of 'oppressed'.

AnyOldPrion · 18/12/2019 22:56

So the judge insists that anyone with a GRC is literally the opposite sex from their actual sex, and we are not allowed to mention their actual sex.

And we are facing the possibility of self-ID, which will mean any number of utterly dodgy men legally becoming “women” and we will be in breach of the law if we say it.

Who else thinks the judge likes to wear frilly knickers along with that big owl’ wig?

mement0mori · 18/12/2019 23:02

If we're going to lose our exemptions, and protections under the legally protected category of biological sex, the males can lose theirs too

I think it's only a matter of time. Tatler did quite an interesting article on this a few years ago. It is possible that this could be challenged, most likely by someone who would like to inherit.

AbsintheFriends · 18/12/2019 23:03

Utterly shocked.

Forgive me - haven't RTFT, but I recall Simon Fanshawe (co-founder of Stonewall, now staunchly GC) saying that in the early days of campaigning against Section 28, the early defeat in Parliament was actually instrumental in the public taking notice, thinking WTF, and getting behind their fight back. I'm sincerely hoping this is that moment.

Respect, support and gratitude to Maya. And the offer of further digging should she require it.

Waterandlemonjuice · 18/12/2019 23:04

Fucking gutted

Michelleoftheresistance · 18/12/2019 23:09

So the judge insists that anyone with a GRC is literally the opposite sex from their actual sex, and we are not allowed to mention their actual sex.

While simultaneously insisting that in some circumstances TW should have separate provision from females.

so a) his lordship knows damn well sex is binary or how would he be able to visualise separating these two groups by sex?

b) his lordship places exceptions on his own personal agreement of TW being W fast enough when he personally sees the issue and disadvantage.

PencilsInSpace · 18/12/2019 23:09

This judgment is insane.

There are a lot of points in there that can be challenged at appeal and I am happy to chip in again.

First tier ET judgments do not make case law. A ruling has to be made at EAT level or above before other lawyers can cite it. This case was destined to go to appeal whichever side won. In a way it's good that this has gone against Maya at the first stage because it means that she is the one in control of what the grounds for appeal are.

Lots more to say but it needs careful wording in order to not be deleted.

FannyCann · 18/12/2019 23:09

So shocked and upset. Gutted for you Maya, and for all of us.
Sickening to see the usual suspects creaming themselves in an orgy of glee on twatter. Don't go there if you want to sleep tonight. AngryAngryAngry

Kilbranan · 18/12/2019 23:11

Unbelievably bad judgement. Completely nonsensical, feels like not just compelled speech but compelled beliefs are order of the day.
How is this going to work in healthcare setting?? Biology cannot be ignored and is most definitely based on undisputed scientific facts

Imnobody4 · 18/12/2019 23:14

Just seen this tweet from Jodie Ginsberg CEO of Index of Censorship. Unfortunately she's leaving. Hope her successor is as good as she is.

Absinthe
Simon Fanshawe (co-founder of Stonewall, now staunchly GC) saying that in the early days of campaigning against Section 28, the early defeat in Parliament was actually instrumental in the public taking notice, thinking WTF, and getting behind their fight back. I'm sincerely hoping this is that moment.

To cut through the legal stuff to the reality of what the judge ignores wilfully.

To wave yet again to the majority of those who identify as transwomen of the internet.

Your selfies of shopping, thighs, boots, fishnet tights, primary school 'girl' outfits, (yes, that one, you, you know who you are specifically, we've seen the pics that you have no issue putting out there to celebrate your 'transition' from cross dressing as a primary school 'girl' to your stunning and brave transition now).

And those self-congratulating translesbian posts where male=male relationships suddenly equals lesbian relationships

And your anger at not being allowed in changing places and spaces with women, because you have a male body.

Your courting of the press to lament as to how vulnerable you are, due to the fact that some places stand up and say 'no, male bodies should be excluded from female- body exclusive spaces'.

... instrumental in the public taking notice, thinking WTF, and getting behind their fight

This may be the moment. I truly hope so. That more people say no. We need to be able to speak the truth.

haXXor · 18/12/2019 23:14

Maya, please appeal. This judgement is genuinely terrifying.

Joisanofthedales · 18/12/2019 23:14

Shocked, upset and so angry I feel like I am going to explode. Love to you Maya and thank you for trying Star

AnyOldPrion · 18/12/2019 23:19

As a person with an interest/education in science and genetics, I am also disgusted by the judge’s suggestion that Maya’s scientific understanding is so poor as to be barely credible.

That he has no understanding of this very basic area of biological science is obvious. The basic science, as Maya understands it, has not changed.

glitterbiscuits · 18/12/2019 23:19

Words fail me.
It's illogical
