Helen Lewis Twitter abuse - what happened?

I’ve only seen this today after some of the tweets have been deleted - did anyone see what happened? A male journo seemed to be going after her. Also she had sent Prick News an email criticising an article - not adhering to suicide reporting guidelines as well as misreporting. She is very balanced on the trans issue - I think it just shows their intolerance if they cannot tolerate even balanced articles and opinions.

I hadn't previously been aware of the insult towards the gay MP and subsequent refusal to apologise, but it seems to be of a piece with her behaviour. A few weeks ago the Sun picture desk asked her if they could use one of her pictures, and her response was "Absolutely not. Get fucked".

I'm not a fan of the Sun, but that kind of aggression towards a fellow journalist is uncalled-for.

It's quite hard to have a rational debate with someone who characterises politely-worded disagreement as "absolutely vicious transphobia". You have to wonder how people like her and the other comrades would cope if they really were on the receiving end of people being "absolutely vicious".

Much of the time "transphobia" means nothing more than a stick to beat an enemy with. It doesn't need to be substantiated because it is so incredibly serious that even to question such an accusation compounds the original offence.

At some point someone using that stick is going to be sued for defamation. They're going to have a problem when they're asked in court "what was the "transphobia"?".

Isn’t part of the problem the subjective nature of hate speech? I know that trans isn’t a category covered by the law, and that’s why PC Gull recorded a ‘hate incident?’ Isn’t this the core of the Harry Miller case? Maybe that ruling will help clarify what constitutes or doesn’t constitute transphobia.

Dawn can tell men from women sometimes though. When it directly affects her:
