Can’t see another thread on this, apologies if I missed it.
Sorry I can’t work out how to link to FB but Green Party Women’s page has issued a statement asking people to refrain from using the term T*rf in light of FPFW report on its use by Green (and other parties) candidates. They’re getting a lot of kickback from TRAs but it’s quite extraordinary reading their new stance and recognition of misogyny and institutionalised sexism in the Greens!

Dont feel so bad about voting for them now

I think this might link to the post - looks like some TRA comments have been deleted?

DeeZastris · 14/12/2019 13:48

Maybe they should have done this before the election 🤦‍♀️ Big fucking late now to realise women have the vote.

MockersFactCheckMN · 14/12/2019 13:50

Small disturbance in a rockpool, all very Lilliputian.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 14/12/2019 14:05

Good illustration of what happens to women who speak up in this debate.

  • Ask that people not use the term 'TERFS', show evidence of the violent rhetoric attached to the term & its history as a pejorative.
  • Receive multiple furious attacks demanding the sacking/expulsion/ejction for 'transphobia'.

Yep, it's all perfectly reasonable.

BeyondVotesForFlube · 14/12/2019 14:06

From what I have gleaned elsewhere - the GPW page was in the past run by TRAs. It took its time - and yes significantly pre-election would have been handy, but here we are - but following activity within the party's membership it is now under the control of women.

Apparently on twitter, the TRAs are refusing to relinquish their account, so a new one either has been set up or is coming.

I wasn't part of the discussion and only half-read it on Facebook, so I apologise in advance if any of this is inaccurate Grin

TiredofthisBS · 14/12/2019 14:09

Heartening to see, little to late mind you. The comments are encouraging. Anti- science and accusations of transphobia soon shut down. Some proper eyebrow raises though (want to say something else but will probably get deleted.)

TheCrowFromBelow · 14/12/2019 14:17

Is it still ok to call me a non-man though?

TiredofthisBS · 14/12/2019 14:20

You never know they may have a period of reflection and come to the conclusion that calling women 'non-men' probably wasn't the most stellar of ideas.

BeyondVotesForFlube · 14/12/2019 14:40

Chanellor was the first to use "nonmen" - at the time a party darling so the rest ran with it. Chan used it both personally and via the group account/s chan was running at the time - lgbtqiabc iirc, and possibly young greens.

Coyoacan · 14/12/2019 14:56

It's never too late for people to realise that something has gone terribly wrong.

chilling19 · 14/12/2019 15:31

Well I read the FB comments and have to say that the woman who is running the page displayed a lot of patience. In doing so she allowed the insanity to emerge, and the rage exhibited by the TRAs. They simply cannot deal with being told no.

MrsSnippyPants · 14/12/2019 15:33

The Green Party as a whole are still sticking to their guns. As far as I am aware, this is a group of women attempting to change the party's policies from within.

Though given the vitriol on that page from actual GP members and even office holders it is no wonder so many women just up and leave.

They are very brave. Merely asking people to stop using insulting and dehumanising language seems to have made some people very very angry.

BeyondVotesForFlube · 14/12/2019 15:35

I'm one of the women who upped and left - I'm almost convinced enough recently to rejoin and continue the fight from the inside. Give it a few more weeks...puuuullll....

teawamutu · 14/12/2019 15:45

I've just rejoined Labour in the same spirit, Beyond.

aHintOfPercy · 14/12/2019 15:47

The parties are waking up and realising they've alienated a lot of women voters with their self ID/trans rights stance and their attacks on women who raise concerns. They dont really give a toss about women and women's rights being trampled over, they just want our votes.

RubyViolet · 14/12/2019 17:38

There are some people living in an alternative reality to put it politely. They thought they were succeeding in bending our will, to make us believe in it too.
It’s clear that Women are just not having it.
Keep going Green Women.

Angryresister · 14/12/2019 18:02

Jackie H doing sterling work there with legal stuff.

Dolorabelle · 14/12/2019 18:20

Green Party Women’s page has issued a statement asking people to refrain from using the term Trf in light of FPFW report on its use by Green (and other parties) candidates*

Gosh! Is it too much to hope that they are slowly coming to their senses and realising how misogynist they were being?

I lost any desire to vote Green (and I've voted Green in the past) when they called women "non-men' at one of their conferences, and took seriously the statement from a man that he "Presented as male, but identified as female." It's the Schroedinger's activist: taking up his full masculine privilege in order to exert his right to being The.Most.Oppressed

Yuk.

So I'm interested in the possibility that the Greens are realising , at last, that you can't shove women out of the way and still claim to be saving the planet.

SetYourselfOnFire · 14/12/2019 19:00

Best news I've heard all week. Bless these women! This is what women need to do in all political parties, we outnumber them and we're right. All they have is threats.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 14/12/2019 19:03

Jackie Holyoake, you are brilliant, if you're on here.

koshkat · 14/12/2019 19:07

Some of those comments are just...are these people mad?

donquixotedelamancha · 14/12/2019 19:19

I agree. I think she did a really good job of keeping the focus on asking people not to be abusive. It showed up how much 'TRAs' can't make actual arguments, they can only name-call and resort to it quickly even when met with reason and patience.

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 14/12/2019 20:27

Not on FB but the green party women Twitter account is wall to wall trans and NB inclusive and pro sex work. Is this any kind of policy or just a few lone voices?

OhHolyJesus · 14/12/2019 20:46

GPW on FB is one I follow and I'm no longer on Twitter so can't comment but I do know that copy-cat accounts have been created and the issues have been raised within the party as I think to create one is against party rules.

Don't quote me but it's not as if we haven't seen this before. GPW on FB is about women and the abuse on that thread from official GP post holders is astonishing (and then they deny it is abuse), but then when you've got candidates using the T word (sounds like surf) so casually it's amazing to me that there are any women left in it at all, at least ones that are gender critical.
