Just thought I'd give a heads up, doesn't look like it's being promoted yet

No doubt we'll want to talk over his answers afterwards!

What does he mean here? Talking about money? I interpret this as about making third/fourth spaces for transgender people ? I'm my opinion it's not enforceable though ... you can't check people in order to stop them. -

"@JohnMcDonnell*, you say on the Equality Act 2010 single-sex exemptions:
"Hence we aim to reform the law to include self-identification but this does open up a whole debate around the single sex-based exemptions that will be maintained under the Equalities Act. This has to be dealt with sensitively and people's views need to be respected. "
NO! Why are you suggesting the Equality Act 2010 single-sex exemptions will now be 'debated'? The single-sex exemptions are quite clear. Trans identified males can be excluded - perfectly lawfully - from women only spaces, services, jobs, accommodation, female-only candidate lists. Your manifesto is quite clear that you will "increase understanding of and enforce" the single-sex exemptions, but now you seem to be suggesting they will now be 'debated'. JUST NO.

They are clear I agree but the implementation of the exemptions has always been a matter of practical discussion. One of the key issues is that it often requires investment to implement policies and we must ensure that all the public services and organisations involved have the resources to ensure an effective implementation. "

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 08/12/2019 08:26

The most generous interpretation is that he is acknowledging that, if self-ID becomes law, the bar for justification for excluding transwomen from single-sex spaces will be much lower, as allowing any man to claim womanhood makes it proportionate and legitimate to exclude them from more spaces and services than is currently allowed.

LangCleg · 08/12/2019 09:04

I don't believe any practical policy work has been done on how they plan to carry out the manifesto promise re: exemptions. Otherwise, he'd have answered my question (which detailed the practical difficulties) rather than Empress's, which was about the principle rather than the detail.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 08/12/2019 10:14

The most generous interpretation

He was given a platform to tell millions of women who are desperate to hear the answer. He could have nailed it in one prewritten statement and won the confidence of everyone trying to find a reason to vote Labour, even despite Dawn Butler's machinations.

He knew all that clear as day.

He chose to fudge it on purpose in the hope stupid wimmin wouldn't realise they were being played, in order to pander to a minority of a minority group of males.

He chose to fudge it on purpose in the hope stupid wimmin wouldn't realise they were being played, in order to pander to a minority of a minority group of males.

Except what he failed to grasp was that nothing short of complete endorsement of gender identity ideology and rejection of GC women's views was going to be enough for them. Maybe they'll vote Lib Dem instead.
