Are we having an influx of I-think-I'm-GC-but-I-want-to-be-nice-but-I'm-so-confused...'naïve' posters?

OP posts:
Clymene · 30/11/2019 12:12

Certainly seem to be a glut of them. I find them a bit of a distraction

APerkyPumpkin · 30/11/2019 12:13

Oh yes.

The tide must be on the turn, and the weekend must be underway.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 30/11/2019 12:13

I think perhaps a mix. It's easy to be astonished at how little awareness there is of these issues. Some faux, some genuine, is my guess.

Doyoumind · 30/11/2019 12:13

I had been thinking exactly the same thing.

XXcstatic · 30/11/2019 12:18

I am sure that some are genuine. I am equally sure that some are here transphobe-hunting.

OhHolyJesus · 30/11/2019 12:26

I've noticed that too, ready with the screen shot button I'm sure. It's annoying but I do like to see how long it takes before the mask slips. I think they are have been provoked by newsnight.

Clymene · 30/11/2019 12:30

I'm just waiting to be called a bitter old hag again Grin

ScrimshawTheSecond · 30/11/2019 12:36

It's tedious, but then again maybe worth it for the Scooby-Doo like unveiling as faux questioners shout LONG LIVE THE PENIS and generously distribute misogynistic insults before vanishing in a puff of green smoke.

teawamutu · 30/11/2019 12:37

Is true that lots of people aren't aware - was talking about this to a couple of female colleagues the other day.

They're smart, educated, sensible but hadn't heard about prisons or sports or any of it so still largely on the 'be kind' side. Didn't care particularly about a few male born people skewing the data, didn't care about sport.

Did, however, get the idea about the world being male by default so I pointed them in the direction of Caroline Criado Perez as a starter. They'll get there.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 30/11/2019 12:40

I think our dear Germain would point out that if a person goes from "for am but a mere curious young girl unsure of how to understand these complicated things" to "hail penis you old hags" in less than a day then perhaps the person in question may not be entirely sincere.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 30/11/2019 12:41

before vanishing in a puff of green smoke

My only request is that they please leave the little dog(s) alone.

ResistSexism · 30/11/2019 12:55

I welcome them. Most people aren't aware of the issues in my experience and the tide is beginning to turn.

I feel that opposition to self ID policies is based upon very solid ground. The GC approach is pro-female and pro-child safeguarding, not anti-trans. The more opportunities to demonstrate this the better.

Grimbles · 30/11/2019 13:51

TBH the more 'gosh, just why are you so mean' questions we get, the more chances there are of explaining the real issues with TRA ideology. We dont hate trans people, we support, and enforce, womens boundaries and sex based rights. Massive difference

Grimbles · 30/11/2019 13:52

I swear resists post wasnt there just now!

slipperywhensparticus · 30/11/2019 13:54

Its always the same lately gosh why are you all so mean be NICE! 🤷‍♀️ your anti trans! No I'm pro women according to them there is no difference 🙇‍♀️🙇‍♀️

nauticant · 30/11/2019 13:56

I cannot believe the sincerity of anyone who would say "I'm largely on board with you lot but isn't Caitlyn Jenner simply marvellous!"

Inebriati · 30/11/2019 14:07

Yes. Gosh, aren't they just the most tedious ever.
Anyone would think all of the problems women face have been solved, and women's rights are the most secure rights.

I got an email yesterday from yet another well known ex women's rights charity. They used to comment on stuff like FGM.
But now apparently all problems are ours to solve, you name it. Climate change? Women's things. The economy? Women's things. Ecology? Women's things. Plus, they are now apparently 'inclusive'.

Obviously us hideous women just aren't feministing correctly.

koshkat · 30/11/2019 14:11

These enquiries are both tedious and disingenuous and they are probably trolling for screenshots from those nasty women.

Fuck 'em.

LangCleg · 30/11/2019 14:14

I take it as a positive sign. There is panic in the ranks.

JellySlice · 30/11/2019 14:49

I find those types of posts (posters?) very tricky because I am genuinely naïve and tend to take people at their word (strong ASD traits). I hate having to second-guess and try to work out whether questions are genuine. It gives me the same gut-wrench as I get when trying to work out whether pronouns are being used sex-accurately.

Don't worry about it. Answering them as if you assume are genuine is the best approach anyway. Even if they are being disingenuous, there will be lurkers who are genuine and who will value your explanations.

RoyalCorgi · 30/11/2019 15:56

I think they're all sea-lions, to be honest. Am automatically suspicious of these posts. (By the way, I know we're not allowed to troll-hunt, but are we allowed to sea-lion hunt?)

allmywhat · 30/11/2019 15:59

I started to write this in a different thread but I didn't want to get deleted for troll hunting. There's a pattern. Though they may start deviating from the pattern now they've been called on it. What I wonder is whether it's just one extreme obsessive or whether a few different people have somehow all got the same playbook?

  1. Faux-naive questioning.
  2. Oh but why be so mean? I have no boundaries at all.
  3. Here is a convenient anecdote or two, which I believe to support my position that your boundaries are stupid and pointless.
  4. Trivialising and dismissing women's trauma with a near-psychopathic level of callousness.
  5. Often by deflecting the conversation back to my convenient anecdote.
  6. You all are now trapped in an endless loop wherein I repeatedly demonstrate my astounding inability to grasp the concept of risk management.

Repeat 4-6 ad infinitum. Another username may enter at any point in the thread and start the whole process again from step 1.

allmywhat · 30/11/2019 16:01

A thread on girls' toilets in schools being taken away was where I noticed it first.

ErrolTheDragon · 30/11/2019 16:09

I'm inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt in the first instance. I think we should try to consistently post links to the 'break it down for me' thread, maybe others like 'things they said would never happen' if apt - and then, crucially, wait and see if there's evidence they've actually read that material before they post again, and don't engage if they haven't.
