How can you be non binary if there are more than two genders?

If you actually self identify as non binary, what are you really saying?

Obviously you don't believe there are just two sexes, male and female, as otherwise you would agree that you are whichever sex your body actually is.

But if you believe there are several genders then you can't be non binary because genders are not binary.

I think that if you say you are non binary you are, by default, admitting that there are just two sexes and you acknowledge that you are one of them.

So how is any of that part of being transgender?

It's illogical, non-sensical, delusional, and protected as Truth by people equally as illogial, non-sensical and delusional.

Just refuse to accept these terms (asky people what they mean if they use it to you), and don't use them yourself.

Refuse to take part in this hysteria of madness.

QuantumEntanglement · 30/11/2019 14:34

OP, I’ve come to the conclusion that I and everyone I have ever known, know now and will know in the future was/is non-binary! Now, bear with me. It’s not because I move in particularly progressive circles, I don’t think I do, it’s because, if we follow the logic (I know but for the sake of argument...) of queer theory, we are all gender non-conforming to some extent aren’t we? I mean it would be impossible for one to conform with ALL of the 99-gazillion genders currently available wouldn’t it? So, if we’re all non-conforming that means we’re all non-binary and that means we’re all trans!

I think you will find you can't be trans if you are female and don't invest huge amounts of time and effort ensuring you look just the right way,

DanaPhoenix · 30/11/2019 15:01

It really is an absolute crock. Sorry, but it really is. Leaving aside the whole physical presentation for a moment. I’m struggling to understand how this is being defined outside of that.

I had the best matchbox car collection in my street. I had a crew cut in 1st grade, shortest hair in the class, including the boys. I really need to find that photo.. crew cut - school dress. It really just boils down to interests and personality and individuality.

How did individuality and uniqueness become an identity? An actual protected identity. I suspect social media and narcissism.

Its something to do with clownfish.

Spat out tea 😆

I want this on a tee shirt

I guess that time when I briefly toyed with the idea of a burgundy dye job and a Betty Page fringe 3 decades ago (only my bff, to whom I shall be forever indebted, talked me out of it) doesn’t count?
No?

Fieldofgreycorn · 30/11/2019 15:23

Yes it’s the new androgyny with the odd bit of medical intervention thrown in the mix.

IsadoraQuagmire · 30/11/2019 15:44

It means you think you're like Lydia from Beetlejuice...

How can you be non binary if there are more than two genders?
FWRLurker · 30/11/2019 15:50

It means one of two things:

  1. you think the vast majority of people are boring normies / walking stereotypes of femininity or masculinity whilst you are very very special nonconformist

  2. you have pretty severe gender dysphoria but know you’ll never pass as the opposite sex, but cosmetic surgery / hormones to appear somewhat more androgynous helps relieve it somewhat

The second category of people are fairly rational as they don’t expect anyone else to “correctly guess” their identity.

The first group are pretty self centered and apparently incapable of understanding that all other people have a diverse array of experiences with gender. Or maybe v sheltered / young

NotTerfNorCis · 30/11/2019 15:55

Trans makes a kind of logical sense if it's about people being 'in the wrong body', but NB makes no sense unless the body is taken out of the equation and it's all about a deep inner sense of 'gender'.

BickerinBrattle · 30/11/2019 15:58

The way I understand it, it all depends on the colour of the jelly-baby in your head. I’ve been on a course.

QuantumEntanglement · 30/11/2019 16:09

I’ve been on a course.

Ooh so have I. Was it Basic Food Hygiene. Mine was years ago when I was a student and worked in a pub and I don’t think we covered jelly babies but I remember the bit about rice, very dodgy stuff is rice when it comes to food poisoning. I have a certificate somewhere...

...couldn’t find it but I’m sure I’m on a list somewhere and I can get a copy!

MIdgebabe · 30/11/2019 16:44

How can you be in the wrong body, and who is in your body if you aren't?

MIdgebabe · 30/11/2019 16:45

I ate the jelly baby and it's in my tummy not my head. Oh no,

TowelNumber42 · 30/11/2019 16:56

I am in the wrong body. On the inside I have the body of Claudia Schiffer some days and the body of Dolph Lundgren on others, always have the brain of Einstein but when I look in the mirror or try to do quantum physics it doesn't work. Am I oppressed?

TowelNumber42 · 30/11/2019 16:59

Mind you, Einstein had a few issues with quantum physics so maybe I'm on the right side of history there.

MIdgebabe · 30/11/2019 17:01

Claudia is a body snatcher? Wow.

BickerinBrattle · 30/11/2019 17:08

If you’re in the wrong body, someone else has got yours.

littlebrowndog is good at tracking them, though. Call her, she’ll get on the case.

JanesKettle · 30/11/2019 22:16

The other thing non-binary is, is a way for kids to save face when they decide actually they don't want to go through with the whole trans thing, but they have internalised angst about cs. Being cs means being like your mum.

I don't mind it as a face saver - whatever works, right.

popehilarious · 30/11/2019 22:24

I've also noticed plenty of commentary about transitioning to "the opposite gender" or other references to "the opposite gender" which is VERY binary.

BickerinBrattle · 01/12/2019 05:09

Non-binaries are in a binary relationship with binaries.

DickKerrLadies · 01/12/2019 06:00

Yeah, we're all non-binary.

I can't wait for them all to grow up and figure out they're just as boring as the rest of us.

It's like how we're all awesome parents until we have children and we realise that we were just being a dick all along.

NotAssigned · 01/12/2019 07:44

I'd be completely cool with this non binary lark if it were not for the fact that otherwise intelligent politicians are seriously proposing that it be WRITTEN INTO LAWS.

DickKerrLadies · 01/12/2019 08:28

I'd be fine with it if it actually meant something.

Does identifying as non-binary mean that prospective employers for example can suddenly not recognise my sex?

I don't even need to 'identify' as non-binary - I fit every definition!

We could eradicate sexism overnight! 7 billion non-binary people, and no idea what sex anybody is.

Devereux1 · 01/12/2019 08:35

Trans makes a kind of logical sense if it's about people being 'in the wrong body',

It really doesn't.
