Just 1 question and no follow up

OP posts:
MsMcWibble · 29/11/2019 10:25

So she's just going to educate all us transphobes to be less transphobic.
I see. That will solve all the problems Nicola, you utter traitor.
Gulag, anyone?

frazzled1 · 29/11/2019 10:28

NS 'strong ally of the trans community' first thing said in response.

nauticant · 29/11/2019 10:30

Here's my summary of what I heard:
There is no conflict with women's rights. Legal reform will benefit trans people. Some people have genuine concerns. The legal reform we plan will deal with their concerns.

In other words, she will keep trans on side and women will have to put up with what is decided.

C8H10N4O2 · 29/11/2019 10:31

Did I mishear her or did she completely misrepresent the equalities act on the subject of sex segregation?

She stated (I thought) that making self id/gender recognition easier has no impact on single sex places as these are governed by the equalities act. Has she even read her own party's policy on this?

MsMcWibble · 29/11/2019 10:33

She also committed to reforming the GRA. I thought this had been junked from their manifesto?

frazzled1 · 29/11/2019 10:35

I got the impression she thinks there'll be no impact on single sex spaces.

Michelleoftheresistance · 29/11/2019 10:35

Buggrit. That's the SNP out too then.

Damnit Nicola, I'm going to have to vote Conservative aren't I?

GCAcademic · 29/11/2019 10:37

She also committed to reforming the GRA. I thought this had been junked from their manifesto?

As I understand it, the manifesto relates to what the SNP would do as part of the UK Parliament, while GRA reform is an objective that they (still) have within the context of the Scottish parliament.

Michelleoftheresistance · 29/11/2019 10:37

I got the impression she thinks there'll be no impact on single sex spaces.

Most likely because that's the impression listeners were supposed to get, so they shut up and don't worry about it until it's too late. I can't believe she's honestly that stupid.

HumberHellraiser · 29/11/2019 10:38

One very clear question about Women and Girls concern about Self ID. Specific and simple.

NS answer that she is a strong ally of the Trans Community. There is no conflict of people’s rights or problems with GRA reform.

NS reiterated that there is a lot of transphobia out there, trans people are subject to appalling abuse and they are committed to GRA reform. No evidence, no application of reason.

No reference to women and girls whatsoever. No evidence provided for reform. Just regurgitating the usual appealing to emotions and total rejection of any concerns from women.

FOTTFSOFATFOSM Nicola

SheeshElection · 29/11/2019 10:44

Oh dear. It was all looking so promising too. Fucking hell Nicola 😡

Angryresister · 29/11/2019 10:46

Well we will see how many votes will be won or lost on this ....very disappointed by NS as I think she is probably one of the best politicians around. Her nod to women’s views seems to be just that and she appears to be set on going down the self ID road. Has she signed the declaration yet?

HumberHellraiser · 29/11/2019 10:50

Listening to her answers she may as well have been reading straight from a TRA script.

It is very clear to me that the ‘nod’ to women and girls extends only to the fact that she is aware of some concerns. But her opinion is that they are either stuff and nonsense or transphobic.

SheeshElection · 29/11/2019 10:52

Unless I hear some staunch counter arguments within the party in the next few weeks I’m going to spoil my vote. It’s a 2 horse race where I am and my only other option would be to vote for Jo Swinson and I ain’t doing that. Absolutely not an iota of recognition about the impacts on women and girls? Who the fuck has got to her?

ScrimshawTheSecond · 29/11/2019 11:06

Sturgeon used to be my MP.

She has since had coaching in how to present herself as friendlier and more approachable, I'm sure, but I won't trust an MP who doesn't even deign to respond to her constituents. She's a good actor, is all.

Michelleoftheresistance · 29/11/2019 11:20

Interesting she had coaching into how to present herself as friendlier and more approachable, and not how to be more friendly and approachable.

'Identifying as' isn't the same as actually being, Nicola. People function on reality, not surface detail.

breakfastpizza · 29/11/2019 11:26

How fucking hard is it to understand that people with dicks pose a serious risk to people without dicks? The stats are there. What the fuck is wrong with these people that they can't process that?? bangs head against wall

Needmoresleep · 29/11/2019 11:40

From the FT last week

www.ft.com/content/38bc9850-0c39-11ea-bb52-34c8d9dc6d84

Alex Salmond was Sturgeon's long term mentor.

Iggypoppie · 29/11/2019 11:59

How much influence does her non binary Trans Activist constituency manager Dr Claire Scott (twitter @ CS Bungo) have over what she can and cannot say and what emails etc she gets to read etc. Something very dodgy looking here...

www.thenational.scot/news/17472564.they-do-not-speak-for-us-feminists-hit-back-at-trans-exclusionary-activists-in-open-letter/ Claire Scott is a signatory of this letter.

Iggypoppie · 29/11/2019 12:01

She's absolutely surrounded by TRAs it seems and no doubt they will rip her to pieces of she dissents.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 29/11/2019 12:19

Michelle, sorry, I should have phrased that better. I think she has probably had coaching based purely on my own conjecture.

littlbrowndog · 29/11/2019 12:28

She needs to grow a spine and stand up for girls and women

Did she mention the violence against girls and women ?

fascinated · 29/11/2019 12:36

And she is supposed to be a lawyer! I can see why she left practice. Detail is all too difficult, it seems.

Justhadathought · 29/11/2019 12:41

How fucking hard is it to understand that people with dicks pose a serious risk to people without dicks? The stats are there. What the fuck is wrong with these people that they can't process that?? bangs head against wall

I really don't think people, and even Nicola Sturgeon, have really given that much thought to the issue, and are therefore not aware of the implications and the consequences of what Self Id actually means, and will mean.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 29/11/2019 13:01

Oh FFS.

My last shred of hope is that the second consultation is actually listened to, and women's spaces are protected.
