Just 1 question and no follow up

Fabulous! I hope her contempt for women’s safety and rights gets widely publicised. We need to get rid of the SNP from as many seats as possible, to stop that ghastly woman from wasting millions of taxpayers money on yet another bloody independence referendum.
May I take the opportunity to ask all Scottish MNers to vote Conservative- we’re the only party (apart from the Communists) who haven’t caved in totally on women’s rights, and tactically we are the only party who can defeat the SNP in most constituencies.

DeeZastris · 29/11/2019 16:59

Why is anyone shocked by this? She’ll “take no lectures” from pretty much anyone.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 29/11/2019 17:04

Scotland is becoming Canada-Light. Wtaf??

Milanimilani · 29/11/2019 17:05

Its Maggie Thatcher all over again. In order to keep up with the men all these women shit on other women and girls.

DeeZastris · 29/11/2019 17:15

Very sleekit not putting it in the manifesto.

Michelleoftheresistance · 29/11/2019 17:40

Yes. This is unfortunately the reality of living in a patriarchy where female politicians are very much the minority. Women permitted (by men, who run all the parties and hold the massive majority of the top jobs) to reach high enough positions get there by winning at Patriarchy and espousing the views and actions that make them popular with the men in charge.

I realised how big a problem this was the first time I saw a video of Anne Ruzylo speaking at a meeting. She is a fabulous speaker. It really struck me that there are very, very few politicians of either sex currently able to stand and hold a room like she can, who speak from the heart, are informed, who know the policies, who have real life experience. There is this calibre of talent in the lower levels of the party, and it's not getting up through the ranks. Why? I can make a few guesses. None of them make the Labour party look good.

Lack of equal representation in Parliament is a huge problem for women, I hadn't realised how much. Sod the 'best person for the job', we need women in equal numbers and women who aren't the few good girls who have won the men over. That way we might not be dealing with policies that are so mind blowingly anti woman.

WomaninBoots · 29/11/2019 17:55

Shit. And I am NOT voting Conservative either. Just a different type of women hating going on over there as well as selling off the NHS.

Hurrah.

What choices we have.

youllhavehadyourtea · 29/11/2019 17:59

Nicola, I have voted SNP in every election for over 35 years - since I was 18.

But I just can't do it this time.

I'm sorry Carol Monaghan, but I won't be voting for you .

ScrimshawTheSecond · 29/11/2019 18:36

Well, it's a shoogly peg here between SNP and Tories.

youllhavehadyourtea · 29/11/2019 18:55

Jings. Rock and a hard place.

youllhavehadyourtea · 29/11/2019 19:38

Truly depressing.

NovemberDays · 29/11/2019 19:45

Sheesh I am in the same constituency as you.

I think (and am happy to hear a counter-argument) that it is possible to vote SNP in the Westminster elections and then vote something different in the Scottish elections. The self-ID reform is a devolved issue and the Scottish government are committed to it. That does not actually matter in the Westminster election for the SNP but it does for the LibDems. Does that make sense?

hopelesssuitcase · 29/11/2019 20:05

There is no-one to vote for. Sad
I like NS and I've tried to understand what makes someone think "wicked terfs" instead of actually understanding the dangers to women of self id. I still don't get it.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 29/11/2019 21:05

Yes it's a shitshow of an election, for so many reasons. I won't be surprised if turnout is low.

Skippii · 29/11/2019 21:10

I’m not happy with the SNP stance on women’s rights, but I’ll still be voting for them. Once Scotland is independent it’s likely the SNP will splinter and we will then have more options outside Westminster

fascinated · 30/11/2019 15:04

If you’ve been lucky enough to never been sexually assaulted, or never felt threatened, or vulnerable eg after childbirth in mixed ward/ responsible for small children in vulnerable situations eg the time I had to pee with cubicle door open due to pram.... well, I think . you could possibly be blind to danger. I was before the assault happened. And as for empathy with fellow females - hmm - I was badly bullied by other girls most of my childhood, and never felt I fitted in as a female, so gravitated more towards males. I can see why someone like that might empathise more with males. I often wished I was male, then. Hung around mostly with guys but was never hit on as I was a tomboy type/was lucky that my friends were decent and I was lucky not to meet anyone awful at that time, so probably had a different early experience. I’ve said the same about Mairi Black. This, combined with the fact that they are now living in a complete bubble, with security guards / body guards with them at all times, and surrounded by people who never dare criticise them, let alone try and sexually assault them... yes I can see how it happens. That they just don’t see it. Don’t you think?

fascinated · 30/11/2019 15:08

The point is though...how can we change it? How can we get them to see?

Trouble is, a lot of Scotland is still v homophobic and macho. If the transwomen they know present as feminine men, these women will immediately feel sorry for them because of that. Especially if most of their female contemporaries are “strong” women in the Nicola./Mairi mould who would never let them admit to being vulnerable. I’ve posted before about the henpecker wife trope in Scottish media. Ingrained misogyny , often internalised, is integral to the Scottish psyche.

nauticant · 30/11/2019 15:19

Unfortunately the only way I believe that they can be seen to part from the ideology is when they realise that continuing to support the ideology will cost them. One way this could happen is if there's a scandal, for example women being killed by transwomen in prison, sufficient numbers of detransitioning young women (and I think it will be women) with damaged bodies getting high profile coverage in the media, etc.

Mychitchatdays · 30/11/2019 15:25

Listen to how pathetic you all sound! Absolutely disgraceful that you want to call yourself women. Vote Conservative?! Have you listened to how he thinks and treats women?
Maybe you should all just go back to the dark ages?

nauticant · 30/11/2019 15:29

So keen were to you dive in and scold you seem to be doing so randomly.

fascinated · 30/11/2019 15:38

I am surprised that the prison situation hasn’t caused them to pause. But then there isn’t a lot of sympathy for female prisoners, is there? Even from so-called socialists like Nic and Mhairi. A bit of a class problem going on here, too, I think.

DeeZastris · 30/11/2019 17:53

@Mychitchatdays. In what way do you think not believing women not have penises is medieval?
Please, in your own words, describe what a woman is.

Galvantula · 30/11/2019 18:49

Ah fucks sake. 🤬

I was going to consider voting for them as the only other viable choice in my constituency is Lib Dems. I am strongly anti independence so it was hard enough.

I really don't want to spoil my vote.

I won't vote conservative.

Labour are miles behind so pointless.

What a shit show this all is.

I'm going to write to my SNP MP again, even though he ignored me during the consultations. :(
