The men who attacked the lesbian/bisexual couple who refused to kiss for them are in court today. Stonewall asked for a comment and manage to make it about attacks on trans people. Would it kill them just for once to not mention trans

Stonewall’s comment just looks stupid, and actually lesbophobic, as it is a complete nonsequiter.,

SidJS · 28/11/2019 16:05

Agree - completely lesbophobic - perhaps we should ask Stonewall how this relates to transphobia??!! Not a good look for Stonewall. I assume the new LGB Alliance will have a different perspective about this horrendous incident. Can’t think why they are now needed...

SquashedFlyBiscuit · 28/11/2019 16:08

Thats really really odd and out of pkace in the article isnt it.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 28/11/2019 16:08

Bloody hell, Stonewall. That's so offensive.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 28/11/2019 16:10

Oh my god. I saw this on twitter and thought it was satire / wrong end of the stick. Just for people who don't like to click links the quote in the paper, not edited in any way by me:

Laura Russell, a director at the charity Stonewall, LGBT+ people “still face hatred simply because of who they are”.

She added: “These figures are still likely to only represent the tip of the iceberg when it comes to hate crimes against LGBT+ people.

“The significant rise in hate crimes against trans people shows the consequences of a society where transphobia is everywhere.

BreastedBoobilyToTheStairs · 28/11/2019 16:11

What an absolute insult to those women.

Every time I think Stonewall has reached the limit of how much it can alienate such a large proportion of those it is supposed to protect, there it goes again.

Akire · 28/11/2019 16:13

*She added: “These figures are still likely to only represent the tip of the iceberg when it comes to hate crimes against LGBT+ people.

“The significant rise in hate crimes against trans people shows the consequences of a society where transphobia is everywhere.*

The record (showing my age!) is stuck. This crime made the papers and rightly so. Where are these hate crimes where people are getting beaten up left right and centre? Or is it saying let’s talk about women’s rights equals a hate crime?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 28/11/2019 16:13

Surely the Indy must have edited that comment beyond recognition, even Stonewall can't be that tone deaf?

Kit19 · 28/11/2019 16:14

It really is out of place isn’t it? It doesn’t make any sense on the context of the article at all.

OP posts:
GrinitchSpinach · 28/11/2019 16:15

That is some jaw-dropping bullshit.

ChattyLion · 28/11/2019 16:21

Wow. it’s really as though lesbians are actually invisible to Stonewall.... in a court case involving an attack on a lesbian couple Confused

midcenturylegs · 28/11/2019 16:27

This came to mind.... "Among artists without talent Marxism will always be popular, since it enables them to blame society for the fact that nobody wants to hear what they have to say.”
Clive James. RIP.

Scarscar · 28/11/2019 16:29

ConfusedHmm
How out of touch can Stonewall get?

AnyOldPrion · 28/11/2019 16:44

That is bizarre. Not even pretending that they support lesbians now.

midcenturylegs · 28/11/2019 16:53

Sorry, my post was a bit random. Have been reading a bit of Clive James today as is obvious.

A very weird article, wasn't anything to do with trans.. those poor girls not only having to have gone through what they did but having Stonewall invalidate their experience

Datun · 28/11/2019 16:54

That can't be right. It makes them look ridiculous.

WTAF. Why would any company pay Stonewall after reading that?

PurpleHoodie · 28/11/2019 17:31

Aaaaaand there we have it: exactly why LGBAlliance is very much needed.

ArabellaDoreenFig · 28/11/2019 17:39

You really couldn’t make this up! But hopefully this means that more people will see what Stonewall is about- and it sure isn’t about supporting lesbians.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 28/11/2019 17:41

I think most people who read it will just assume from the Stonewall quote that one of the lesbians was trans.

Michelleoftheresistance · 28/11/2019 18:24

The lesbians were even very good girls and called themselves queer as I remember, thereby ensuring the implication that they were definitely absolutely not the naughty homosexual sort.

Michelleoftheresistance · 28/11/2019 18:28

Mind you Stonewall probably have realised they only have a few more days left before Harry Miller's verdict hits the paper and the UK becomes deeply cynical about what hate crimes means in truth.

HumberHellraiser · 28/11/2019 18:54

I’d be willing to bet that this is a stock comm’s department comment from Stonewall. It is generic, thoughtless and simply regurgitates the same trans related soundbites it uses for everything.
