So, the head of the tavistock is a TRA
Fab

FloralBunting · 25/11/2019 23:06

The Tavi doc keeps shrugging at the lack of clinical evidence and research. Maitliss is agog at the dismissals.

littlecabbage · 25/11/2019 23:07

She's trying to talk down to Emily, but Emily is showing that she really understands the subject.

Neolara · 25/11/2019 23:08

EM going for it. In the nicest possible way.

RedToothBrush · 25/11/2019 23:08

the mermaids person had really weird body language at the very end of the interview. it was like a moment where they went 'did i say the right thing there?' it was odd.

This Tavistock woman is a politician who doesn't understand what evidence is. "We haven't got the gold standard research but we know what we are doing" despite not following up on the long term outcomes. Personal bias is literally jumping off my screen. She's a liar.

littlecabbage · 25/11/2019 23:08

More on this tomorrow on Radio 4, 8pm. (File on 4).

ThomasRichard · 25/11/2019 23:09

Emily Maitliss is really pushing for answers on why irreversible treatment is being given without evidence. Good.

FloralBunting · 25/11/2019 23:10

It's not a question of Do No Harm, says the Tavi doc. It's just How do you mitigate the harm.

Maitliss, you fucking Queen. Best skewering of a disingenuous TRA on the BBC ever.

donquixotedelamancha · 25/11/2019 23:10

Any doctors or medical researchers:

Lass from the Tavi is leaning on qualitative research as the evidence for transition as a medical intervention.

Is there another medical and surgical treatment of similar magnitude (i.e. sterilisation) which has developed without strong statistical evidence of effectiveness?

theflushedzebra · 25/11/2019 23:11

I'm watching in rewind - so forgive me. But the first woman - Debbie Sad Oh my god. She totally passed as a man (in photos anyway). The regret - I feel so sorry for her.

What's happening now - to children - could lead to so many ruined lives. It's devastating.

littlbrowndog · 25/11/2019 23:11

I just turned over for this

That woman kept saying. We don’t know. Unbelievable

Totally unbelievable

MaryMungoandMidgetoo · 25/11/2019 23:13

Ended up quite please with that.

This is the radio show that Emily referenced: www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000bmy9

donquixotedelamancha · 25/11/2019 23:13

Maitliss, you fucking Queen. Best skewering of a disingenuous TRA on the BBC ever.

This. Maitliss is a joy when she's pissed off. Similar to her interview with Teresa May after Grenfell.

littlbrowndog · 25/11/2019 23:14

The woman from tavi kept saying the patients come in in distress

Well I dunno but people in heart clinics or cancer clinics are also in distress.

But you don’t just say I dont know and do untested treatments on them

Melroses · 25/11/2019 23:14

So, the head of the tavistock is a TRA It's sort of inevitable really - could one do this job, when it is so out of the zone of 'first do no harm' medicine, if one were not?

Emily is on a bit of a roll. Good on her.

LangCleg · 25/11/2019 23:15

Video package started off annoying with all the assigned at birth nonsense framing to get underway but after that, really good and moving, I thought. Charlie reps herself so well.

The interview? OMG. Car crash. A consultant psych went on Newsnight and told everyone they have no research, are basically experimenting on live patients and it's all for the best. WTF?

DJLippy · 25/11/2019 23:15

If anybody wants to hear Charlie speak and come to the launch of the detrans network - tickets still available. Manchester this Saturday - 4pm til 6 30

FloralBunting · 25/11/2019 23:16

Tavi doc kept saying 'We don't know, but what you have to understand is we are dealing with very distressed patients'.

The woman is a quack. If you are dealing with distressed patients, your goodwill is meaningless if you can shrug off the lack of research, say Gender Dysphoric people don't deserve gold standard medical care, and give them snake oil because you are 'doing your best'.

Wind's changed, everyone. Hold on to something.

littlbrowndog · 25/11/2019 23:16

Yeah Lang

She kept saying we don’t know

Well smh. She might have well have said that SMH
Cripes

Oldstyle · 25/11/2019 23:17

Blimey. Emily might just be a terf. Who'd have thunk it!

LangCleg · 25/11/2019 23:17

Glad I recorded it now. Going to rewatch tomorrow when am not knackered.

It's not me, is it? That interview was an absolute car crash for GIDS.

littlbrowndog · 25/11/2019 23:19

Tavi doc did say that they stopped giving puberty blockers to younger children.

Wonder why that was ?

So they found out it wasn’t appropriate or what

Why did they stop that

Melroses · 25/11/2019 23:19

Was it the same woman that was on the CBBC trans programme?

littlecabbage · 25/11/2019 23:19

What does smh mean?

northender · 25/11/2019 23:19

Emily M was brilliant, I just wish that had a wider audience, but let's hope that signals some sort of change in coverage.
