I didn't know there was a full page ad against her, Joan Macalpine and Jenny Marra in The Herald yesterday:

Wonderful strong women, all of them. Imagine paying for a full page ad in a newspaper in order to bully specific women by name. Wrong side of history my arse, as they say in Leeds.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 23/11/2019 07:00

Pricy! Wonder who's behind that.

Igneococcus · 23/11/2019 07:03

"The advert, written in Scots and promoted by an organisation called Anent Transphobia,"
Never heard of them.

Looks like it's been thrown together in someone's bedroom overnight (hoping photos will post).

I just googled them, they give an address of being with an organisation called Fetter Together in Edinburgh. They also have a petition in place to get Joan McAlpine and Jenny Murra to design on change.org. They are linking it to Transgender Day of Remembrance as apparently JM and JM invited some speakers to the Scottish Parliament on this day and the speakers were not approved.

I am out of words, really. I wish women could just be left alone.

NovemberDays · 23/11/2019 07:22

Okay, so they are purporting to be linked to the independence campaign?

PurpleHoodie · 23/11/2019 07:47

Joanna Cherry is awesome. Nothing else to add.

LizzieSiddal · 23/11/2019 07:57

Their petition has the grand total of 24 signatories, mind you I expect a few “lurkers” will sign it today.

I’d suggest a mass reporting of the petition as it describes Joanna as “anti trans”, which is a lie, but I expect Joanna would want it there for all to see.

Joanna is a shero.

NonnyMouse1337 · 23/11/2019 07:59

All three of them are very brave and principled women. Smile

ChattyLion · 23/11/2019 08:06

They’re amazing women, more power to them.

TimeLady · 23/11/2019 08:15

Strange there's no Scottish vernacular for "masochistic sexual obsession' but glad to see validation being defined so clearly

ChattyLion · 23/11/2019 08:22

Thank you for the share token Igneo.
Joanna Cherry’s podcast interview on the BBC as mentioned in that article:

www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p07vq4y4

Listen now: The General Election One with Price and Cherry
Political Thinking with Nick Robinson

I want a UK with Scotland in it so I wouldn’t agree on a lot of independence issues with Joanna Cherry, but I’m interested in her political story and her views and I have full respect for principled politicians like her, so I’ll have a listen later.

Verily1 · 23/11/2019 08:25

She’s so strong. Such an admirable woman.

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 23/11/2019 08:26

Why have they written it in Scots? Has it become more common in this kind of discourse? It just seems to obscure their point a bit.

JoyceJeffries · 23/11/2019 08:43

I think we can gather from this that it is extremely cheap to take a full page advert out in the Glasgow Herald.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 23/11/2019 08:57

This reads like someone in their bedroom with too much time on their hands. The colours, let alone the rather clunkily written Scots, and the obsessive targeting of specific female politicians.

I might actually be a bit careful about this person.

ScapaFlo · 23/11/2019 09:02

Is Joanna Cherry the one who says 'Twitterrr' so beautifully?

ElfrideSwancourt · 23/11/2019 09:16

Joanna Cherry is fab - why don't we have any English politicians as brave as her and Joan McAlpine??

TooLateThePhalarope · 23/11/2019 09:20

beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/SC639512/officers

The person behind it is an Iain Nicol- his details are on Companies House website

He/his company have also been paying for anti- Brexit/ pro- separatist billboard campaign.

(I like that company legislation requires him to declare his nationality is Brtish)

Floisme · 23/11/2019 09:20

Thanks for the share token. Bloody amazing women - watch and learn all you English MPs watch and learn.
I thought it was quite funny though that Stonewall declined to comment. It's almost as if even they don't want to be associated with this group.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 23/11/2019 09:32

Yes, it's a one man campaign. I honestly would recommend people are careful with things like this. I could be a bit paranoid, but crusades are not generally healthy.

Cherry et al are far braver than I can even imagine. I wrote to my SNP MP and asked him if he supported the SNP Women's pledge. Straight fight between Tory and SNP in my constituency, so we'll see what his response is.

youllhavehadyourtea · 23/11/2019 09:43

Is there a list of MP/MSP signatories to the SNP Women's Pledge online? I'd like to check if my MP has signed or not.

Ohwhatatangledwebweweave · 23/11/2019 09:44

Well I'm a Glaswegian and barely understood the 'Scots' language used here. Varies so much fae place tae place. Took me a few minutes tae work oot Anent=an end to. Don't think miny folk wid take the time tae translate that shite tbh

Oh and Joanna, Joan and Jenny ur absolute sheroes. This nonsense won't stoap them Grin

This. I wish I could vote in Scotland!
