Oooh even though PC gul denies ever having told Harry that he had to check his thinking, the judge still wants to address it. Harry thought that was a dead-end, due to the denial.

This is another of those moments when my scardy ass, avoid-confrontation-of-any -description self considers joining Twitter. I'd especially be interested in the reaction of Ricky Gervais on this!

Then I remember my blood pressure and stay where I am.

Thanks to all of you providing Twatter links/live tweeting, You're stars.

And as for comparisons to Stephen Lawrence ... WTAF?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 20/11/2019 11:41

Is the judge going to question PC Gul directly??!

BRB, making popcorn.

FloralBunting · 20/11/2019 11:41

We are challenging ALL THE THINGS. I'm loving the confidence.

BoreOfWhabylon · 20/11/2019 11:43

Who is the judge who is Harry's counsel please?

Under that policy what's to stop anyone making a completely false report just to get back at someone they have a grudge against?

Or to create a particular narrative. I read somewhere that West Yorkshire has seen a massive increase in trans hate crime - I can't help wondering how much of this is incidents rather than actual crimes.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 20/11/2019 11:43

I certainly hope so

Datun · 20/11/2019 11:44

Who was it who tweeted we have to report everything we can, to increase the stats?

NonnyMouse1337 · 20/11/2019 11:45

I just want to say that live tweeting is a pretty awesome skill to have! Hats off to whoever is doing this.

Good luck, Harry!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 20/11/2019 11:47

Or to create a particular narrative

Excellent. It appears this has been brought up...

that raises important issue - the people who are generating these complaints. Someone has referred it on to someone else to make a complaint. Is that person referring numerous tweets to the police? One can see the danger of this #FairCopJR

BlackeyedSusan · 20/11/2019 11:47

I've tried live mumsnetting and I am shit at it so well done to the live tweeters.

Datun · 20/11/2019 11:47

They're now trying to define 'chilling effect'?

Because Humberside police claimed that it hadn't upset Harry, because he he wasn't cowed, or something.

I imagine Harry has lost weight, lost friends, lost money, lost stability. All of it.

It's such a sinister line of reasoning.

poorchurchmouse · 20/11/2019 11:48

It’s judicial review so PC Gul won’t be a witness, unfortunately.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 20/11/2019 11:49

I hope 2BoysandaCairn is reading this and learning.

teawamutu · 20/11/2019 11:50

I remember Harry's tweets when the evidence came through from the police. It affected him all right.

BovaryX · 20/11/2019 11:50

They are suggesting that it didn’t have a chilling effect because he didn’t stop tweeting? That sort of suggests that the aim was to silence him

Whatsnewpussyhat · 20/11/2019 11:50

Or to create a particular narrative. I read somewhere that West Yorkshire has seen a massive increase in trans hate crime - I can't help wondering how much of this is incidents rather than actual crimes

I'd bet most of it. Reports of mis gendering and mean women. TRAs have been purposely mass reporting to increase stats.

If hate crimes were happening they would be all over the news.

HipTightOnions · 20/11/2019 11:50

Yes Datun. Just because Harry was brave about it doesn’t mean it wasn’t “chilling”.

Michelleoftheresistance · 20/11/2019 11:53

Hm. Does it negatively affect person, their family, their life in general in a distressing and unpleasant way when they've been accused of a hate crime?

I wonder if Caroline Farrow would agree here? Julie Bindel? Other Lesbians On Chairs?

And what it's like to become a target for the online TRA community by having come to their notice? What harm does that do to them? Are the actions of that community proportional and rational and in keeping with law?

nauticant · 20/11/2019 11:53

A cautious judge will weigh up all the arguments, both for and against, in order to close down straightforward avenues for appeal.

Datun · 20/11/2019 11:53

They could ask mumsnet HQ how many reports they get. Spurious, meaningless, vexatious reports. They could ask anyone how it works.

Harry Miller is not a one off. It's everywhere.

AutumnCrow · 20/11/2019 11:53

Very similar to the narrative of rape victims not appearing upset enough.

Datun · 20/11/2019 11:54

Ok got it. Thanks.

teawamutu · 20/11/2019 11:54

Kate Scottow could probably describe the stress.
