Why aren't women allowed to complain about hate crimes/incidents? Why is sex not included as a protected characteristic?

As far as I recall, the argument was that there are so many sexist hate crimes the police couldn't feasibly cope.

Michelleoftheresistance · 20/11/2019 15:58

Under the whole ring up and announce being a protected minority who has just experienced a feeling of offence, name the target, see target punished - it would be perfectly possible to end up with a hate crime on your dbs, affecting your life and employment, from something you did in full innocence and no intent or knowledge of offending at all.

Its insane. And inane. And the justification is to witter about 'but it gains the confidence of the minorities'.

You utter nitwit, half the women in trouble for WrongThink with TRAs are homosexuals or trans themselves!

TiredofthisBS · 20/11/2019 15:58

Absolutely @CriticalCondition . No one has the right not to be offended. I get offended by things. I don't phone up the police because of it. (Usually think what a twonk and carry on with my day.)

PurpleHoodie · 20/11/2019 15:59

This - obviously - also applies to Gay (Homosexual) men.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 20/11/2019 16:00

I've also lost two days to these cases. Can't think of much more important than our civil liberties and freedom of speech, though.

nauticant · 20/11/2019 16:00

There is something shameful in using Stephen Lawrence as a human shield isn't there?

GrandmaMazur · 20/11/2019 16:01

chilling I'm completely baffled

I just don't understand all these people feeling ever so upset about vague statements that are not directed at them personally but who then send vile messages to women that absolutely are directed at them. And for some reason the women aren't the victims here. I feel like I've stepped into a parallel universe

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 20/11/2019 16:01

Yes nauticant. Pretty shameful.

AutumnCrow · 20/11/2019 16:01

There's guidance on 'old' though. I feel old. Might go for that one.

Especially if the only thing police go on is a name. The scope for "hilarious" mixups with Smiths and Jones is too great to contemplate.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 20/11/2019 16:04

A massive, massive thanks to whomever is live-tweeting this, it's a phenomenal job you've done and hugely important. I'd buy you a drink but will pop it in the crowdfunderifwe'reallowedtomentionit.

StoatofDisarray · 20/11/2019 16:05

There's no one here at the Royal Courts of Justice - have I missed it all?

chilling19 · 20/11/2019 16:05

Grandma welcome to the vortex! Take some time to read the various threads - there are some brilliant women on the FWR board who have thought long and deeply and employed their excellent critical thinking skills to this issue. We always welcome questions put forward in good faith.

ProfessorSlocombe · 20/11/2019 16:05

I'm gonna start making a police report every time someone says they don't think autism exists cos they are obviously denying my existence and want me dead.

Think logically. You can't die if you don't exist.

RedDogsBeg · 20/11/2019 16:05

Judge: So if I ring up and say I am a victim the inquiry stops there.
Defence: I am not sure the Police probably want to understand.
Judge: but Pc Gul had already recorded it before making enquiries

Ouch.

BovaryX · 20/11/2019 16:05

At some point, surely, a working definition of 'hate' is going to have to be established? It's mindblowing that this has got into law without being clearly enough established

This lack of clarity, this ambiguity, must be intentional. The lack of definition is deliberate. Its aim is to impose silence. We are living in a climate where being offended is rendering freedom of speech obsolete. People are frightened to state objective biological reality because they are not sure what the penalty will be. I guess the outcome of both these cases will confirm whether that fear is paranoia or justified.

Court 5 Stoat for the next ten long minutes

AutumnCrow · 20/11/2019 16:07

Stoat, up the stairs on the right, apparently.

AlunWynsKnee · 20/11/2019 16:08

Those were exactly what I was thinking of SpartacusAutisticus. Plus all the 'Is he autistic?' posts on various 'My dp is a selfish, controlling arse' threads.

Lysistrataknowsherstuff · 20/11/2019 16:08

I'm making a police report every time someone uses the phrase "had a fit" or "throw a fit". It's pretty offensive to us epileptics if you think too hard about it.

Michelleoftheresistance · 20/11/2019 16:09

It's toddler politics. Mum she looked at me!
