I'm pretty shocked by this. Artist who has dared to 'openly show[ed] support for the "LGB Alliance"' has had her talk at Oxford Brookes cancelled:

What total shite.

Where do they get time or energy or lack of brain usage to write such mind blowing garbage

NeurotrashWarrior · 23/11/2019 18:42

So what's classed as transphobic?

Jenny Savile's recent work?

Jonathan Yeo's surgery series? He claims his double mastectomy 'gender reassignment' painting is less about "vanity and more about identity" but I'm not actually sure what the diff is between vanity and identity when it's about physically changing your body via plastic surgery.

NeurotrashWarrior · 23/11/2019 18:43

Cross post with that last post by lion; agree, garbled shite.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 23/11/2019 18:46

It's never going to focus on the work. They're hunting for wrongdoing, guilt by association. The artist in the original post was targeted for following and rerweeting certain social media accounts.

Jonathan Yeo:

www.jonathanyeo.com/surgery

The paint was still wet on the gender reassignment painting when I saw it. Utterly chilling.

There was a painting of a pregnant naked sienna miller there too.

I found the whole exhibition both breathtaking, a comment on the identity of femininity and also slightly misogynistic. But I wasn't sure if that was more that he was holding a mirror up to the inherent misogyny of it all.

NeurotrashWarrior · 23/11/2019 18:52

Yup.

lionheart · 23/11/2019 19:14

Nina Power, Rachel Ara and, and, and...

'As we see from TERF Dawn Furness’ Green Party Conference motions, transphobic ideas have the potential to have extremely severe political consequences on the lives of trans people.'

NeurotrashWarrior · 23/11/2019 19:59

Can you post a link to that? I know her.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 23/11/2019 20:17

Those Yeo paintings are quite sad and disturbing, Neurotrash.

Especially as there was a wonderful exhibition by an artist many years ago who had documented women's experiences of Breast cancer, as a way to support the patients through a narrative of common experience and healing.

I felt utter tragedy looking a yeo's stuff knowing of the usefulness and importance of the other artist's work.

NeurotrashWarrior · 23/11/2019 20:47

And let's face it, the preoccupation with the perfect female body - and breasts - is probably what many young women are reacting against when they explore trans identities.

lionheart · 23/11/2019 20:57

I'm blocked on the twitter but can get it incognito.

The Yeo works are powerful.

NeurotrashWarrior · 23/11/2019 21:03

Thanks lion. Very odd Rantings. Why Dawn is thrown in there I'm not sure, though has an arts background and I think she was personally attacked in that capacity.

Anyone who dissents:

'We see @TheArtNewspaper / @thegentlewoman / @VanityFair Editor Christina Ruiz likes rank transphobia. Trans women are women. Media must not support bigots who deny trans women their womanhood & thus their human rights. How can LGBTQ people expect to be treated by these platforms?'

GC or what?!

Coldwatershock · 23/11/2019 23:23

Don't forget a quick email to notifications@officeforstudents about the Brookes incident logs their failure to meet their legal obligations re. Freedom of Speech...

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/11/2019 07:40

Should this account be reported? I feel increasingly uncomfortable they're hunting women and also that they've mentioned a woman in their - what ever it is.

lionheart · 24/11/2019 09:47

'Statement of Intent', but yes they do name specific individuals in their twitter feed.

I can't report it myself because they use terfblocker.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 24/11/2019 10:35

Reporting ... I don't know. I have a fairly good idea who is running the account. Wondering whether its best to keep these people in plain sight?

I'm not on Twitter anymore, either.

OP posts:
lionheart · 24/11/2019 12:05

Yes, I think that's a good point.

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/11/2019 12:19

Yes I agree. May I pm you scrim?

PermanentTemporary · 24/11/2019 16:47

'We can't de-program everyone'

The absolute state of that document. Seeking anonymous tip offs that someone has 'liked' a tweet you disagree with. Jesus wept. How can anyone think that's a good use of the only life you have.

And the idea that the only possible objection anyone can make is that the goats cast out might lose income. The idea that women are women being such an illegal belief that the mere existence of that opinion harms people. Could there be more rank, steaming, restrictive misogyny than that?

ScrimshawTheSecond · 24/11/2019 20:25

Of course, Neuro.
