Fuck me, I just worked out we spend about £7000 a year on food So I do think if a large number of women boycotted it would make a dent.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 21/11/2019 12:54

Does anyone think if everyone with concerns clubbed together to sign a letter (like the Louise Moody one recently and I'm sure lots of others) to John Lewis with so many signatories on it, it would have an impact? A huge amount of customers saying they are withdrawing their business.

Apologies if this has already been suggested and I missed it.

Uncompromisingwoman · 21/11/2019 12:55

Presumably JL are banking on the fact that they don't need custom from women and that the rainbow glitterati will replace our custom.
They can crack on. I'm past caring now.
Just as I have never had a Barclays account after the South Africa apartheid boycott, avoided Nestle products so JL are now on my list. Eying up the curtains, throw and two light fittings in one room that have all come from JL - when they need replacing, it won't be from JL (or M & S).

boatyardblues · 21/11/2019 12:59

How do you name change? Do you have to register a new name first? Do you lose your other name?

I’m on the mobile version of MN, but once you’ve added a new nickname you can use the different name just by typing it in the box where your current default nickname shows above the posting box.

Akire · 21/11/2019 13:20

If they are not going to make it clear it’s now unisex at some point something is going to happen and the complaint will be I wasn’t told or I could have made a choice. Why don’t they just make it clear if it’s so essential.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 21/11/2019 13:33

They have to ask the rainbow if they can do that. They are obviously taking advice.

Thesuzle · 21/11/2019 13:34

Went back quickly to them with my rebuttal,
Their reply is basically sod off, dont contact us again, this matter is closed.
Charming
And I’ve also been into Marks and Sparks today, no staff on the Lingerie changing room entrance.
And a useless answer from the youngish girl on the till

BlackeyedSusan · 21/11/2019 14:13

Well, we all better fuck off then, and take our money with us. They were my go to for white goods. No longer.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 21/11/2019 14:28

I did point out that their equivalent of 'go well' wasn't very professional, it was actually rather dismissive, and that their communications didn't answer any questions anyway.

darkside29 · 21/11/2019 14:49

Oh they are all ‘taking advice’: who from is the key question. Because they are all clearly rattled.

Does anyone recall any minority right enforced, globally, with such vigour and speed before?

Usually you have to fight for years, on battle at a time, one country at a time.

But this one has been rushed through, en masse, without any visible consultation or consensus. And there is powerful pressure to both enforce and suppress dissent. We see classic guilt tripping: social media shaming, withdrawal of commercial support, or as here, “ we must advise we will not be responding further in relation to this matter”.....ie do not question us, we cannot respond.

Someone somewhere wants women to shut up and move over.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 21/11/2019 15:00

Aliens... has to be...

Sunkisses · 21/11/2019 15:00

I've looked back through our JL Partnership credit card statement and I can see we have spent more than £20k on it in the last year. Fuck you John Lewis. How absolutely dare you treat customers like this. Your rude, dismissive and evasive email back to my thoughtful one is the last straw.

darkside29 · 21/11/2019 15:04

hmmm....I think you’re onto something LordProf....

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 21/11/2019 15:13

Sunkiss - I do hope you write to the CFO to tell them...

Uncompromisingwoman · 21/11/2019 19:11

Presumably when women (and children) are assaulted in these mixed sex changing rooms - which they will be - there is so much evidence that companies were challenged and warned but ignored it in favour of getting woke points from anti-women charities. Hopefully it will be much easier to apportion responsibility as they openly admit to abandoning safeguards.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 21/11/2019 19:11

Lawyers licking their lips - although the big law firms at as rainbow as rainbow can be...

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 21/11/2019 19:22

Oh and I hope to god there are no assaults - but the law will do nothing if someone gawps at you, opens a door or pulls back a curtain, ‘accidentally’ forgets to lock/close properly the changing room door to get caught, makes creepy comments, cranes their neck to eavesdrop on bra fittings, gives creeps smirks, makes you feel unsafe/scared/uncomfortable, etc.

It seems like someone can get £££ comp for being distraught at being told they can’t use a certain room, but women who are genuinely made to feel scared or uneasy when the same person is allowed in is told to ‘grow a pair’ ‘be nice’ and ‘act as if nothing is amiss’.

GetbusywiththeFizzee · 21/11/2019 19:30

There will be assaults and we’ll be told to think of the poor men trying to live their authentic lives while all we worry about are petty things like boundaries. You know what, they’ll probably go on about how terrifying it is to change in cubicles next , when the woman in the one next door is hateful - and campaign ( ie send one tweet) to have the old style open changing rooms

PinaGrigio · 21/11/2019 23:05

I absolutely love JL & have spent a shedload of cash with them over the years. I'm part of their Perspectives feedback scheme. Today I explained to them via said mechanism that I will not shop with them until they provide truly single sex changing rooms and went into detail about how disappointed I am with them for prioritising the 'comfort' of predatory males over that of women and girls. Normally I'd have placed several orders with them already for Christmas presents, but I have found alternatives and will be using those instead. Sod 'em, until they take women's concerns seriously.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 22/11/2019 08:31

Just looked at their twitter - mostly about the dragon and the odd it don’t like the socks I bought...’ complaint. Nada about fitting rooms.

I await a response to my email to their customer services... not holding breath though.

I spend at least £100 a week in there plus £150 in Waitrose. That’s rather a drop in their ocean but I’m sure I’m not the only one who is voting with my wallet.

A wee stuffed toy won’t sugar coat that turd.

fauconberg · 22/11/2019 08:34

Yesterday afternoon, John Lewis fitting room just off the ladies clothes section, a 6.2 trans woman strode in in short skirt and fishnets to try on some outfits. These cubicles have curtains only. His male friend accompanied him and sat in the fitting room by the desk on a chair. It was busy and the poor ladies working there looked really flustered.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 22/11/2019 08:38

Where was this? Is it true or a joke - if true were they having a laugh? Or is it a MrMumsnetter going under cover? 😉

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 22/11/2019 09:02

...and more importantly - did they buy enough to offset the loss of business from the average woman shopper?

fauconberg · 22/11/2019 09:16

True. Kingston on Thames, about 5.15. They didn't make a scene of anything but obvious.

I'm sure they didn't outspend me, I went to JL twice yesterday and even the parking cost a fortune! May take all my Christmas shopping back now!

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 22/11/2019 09:37

Wow fauconbird that’s “my” John Lewis branch.
Not that I’ll be (over)spending my Christmas cash there this year.
