Hm. Just sent this to my local candidate.
Dear Sir,
I am finding it difficult to decide where to place my vote in the upcoming general election, as there are a small number of issues I feel very strongly about, and I have not yet found a party which I feel takes a moral, ethical and fair position on all of those issues. Since I am finding it hard to base my position along party lines, I have decided to delve more deeply into the voting and convictions of the particular party members who would be representing me.
I have been interested to note the recent publication of the Labour Women's Declaration www.ipetitions.com/petition/labour-womens-declaration regarding upholding women's sex based rights. I am aware that currently Labour's position is supportive of the gender recognition act and the right of trans people to self identify, and that this self identification should allow them access to the single sex facilities of their identified gender. I wondered if you would feel able to commit to supporting the call, made by the Labour Women's Group, to ensure that women's rights and freedoms are carefully considered and protected.
I feel I have to add that I of course support the right of any person to live and identify as any gender they wish, but feel it is important that a social gender choice is not confused with biological sex, and that the rights and safety of women and girls is considered when making changes to the laws of this country.
I look forward to hearing from you,
Regards,
Oak
