Lib Dems actively deterring GC women

Today I emailed the Lib Dems expressing an interest in joining their party.

I stated no one should receive discrimination or abuse for their transgender status but explained that I am GC and I asked if there was room for GC women in the party.

I received the following response:
Thank you for getting in touch. Whilst we appreciate your interest in joining, you should be aware that the Liberal Democrats are a trans inclusive party, and we have made it clear that we fully behind trans communities. As liberals we champion everyone’s right to live the life they want. By the sounds of your email it appears that your values are not aligned with ours so we are probably not the right the party for you.

I am flabbergasted. I didn't expect that I would have to believe that humans can change biological sex in order to be a member of the Lib Dems.

I am so disappointed. I was going to vote for them in the GE (passionate Remainer) but I cannot if this is their response.

There is no one to vote for. I am lost.

Spoiling your ballot can be a very meaningful act

It really isn't. It might give you a moment of personal satisfaction but you are deluding yourself if you think anyone else cares. The spoiled papers are only looked at to make sure they are indeed spoilt and in a close result to see if it is possible to count them for a candidate.

NeurotrashWarrior · 08/11/2019 07:01

I've seen this go viral over Facebook op, thank you so much for sharing.

I've generally voted Lib Dem and definitely can't now.

TheClitterati · 08/11/2019 07:14

I had decided to vote Lib Dem's strategically because of Brexit, but now that's impossible.

They are idiots beyond belief. Imagine insisting women (and presumably men) must believe gender ideology and abandon biology! Media really need to get on board with this and start asking questions.

PermanentTemporary · 08/11/2019 07:16

I've just seen on twitter a screenshot of the LD constitution pledging to write gender identity into law. The illiterate numpties.

This is going to make me read the manifestos which is a good thing. I might do a manifesto thread.

Another good thing is realising that the LDs are not a fluffy party to vote for because you dont like the alternative but a party with a very specific worldview. I thought I knew that as a previous voter, but the idea that being a liberal must include actively agreeing with nonsense is new to me.

They’ve been rainbowed.

I was phoned a few weeks ago by a man who was standing to be the local Lib Dem candidate. 'Do you believe transwomen are women and transmen are men?' I asked and he blathered for a bit and said he was a gay man and that he stood up for diversity and rights for all and yes, of course he believed TWAW. I told him I would never vote for anyone who is in denial of biology and is attacking women's rights and put the phone down.

My partner and I are remainers and would love to vote Lib Dem for that reason but their mindless pro-trans stance means that we can't possibly vote for them.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 08/11/2019 07:46

I guess he gave you the answer that he thought would get him fewer death threats.

RedToothBrush · 08/11/2019 07:53

Talked to friend who is candidate last night. In a no hope seat.

I asked why they won't speak out. I said to do so once the candidate papers were in.

Their answer was blunt. Because they were afraid they'd lose their job and that would lead them to losing their home. Because they'd be hounded by the militants.

I asked them way they were standing for parliament then if they weren't prepared to speak the truth to power. What is the point of being a politician if you don't stand up for injustice.

Silence.

Just silence.

No response.

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 08/11/2019 07:55

Neurotrash where was it on Facebook? I've only seen it on twitter!
I'll share it if it's on FB too.

Thanks for replies. I love that the Communist Party are GC! Sadly I am a massive capitalist so I won't be a hypocrite and vote for the CP Wink

Oh it’s on twitter!

Trewser · 08/11/2019 07:58

Can anyone link to it on Twitter?

Mner2019 · 08/11/2019 08:05

I am not the best with twitter. No idea how to link directly to a tweet. I have screenshot it below.

Or move to Edinburgh South West before 26th November and vote for Joanna Cherry!

It's tempting! Grin

TalkingintheDark · 08/11/2019 08:34

“We’re the Lib Dems - don’t vote for us!”

Best general election campaign ever 👍

Inebriati

I am struggling to see where UKIP or for that matter any other party are planning to roll back women's rights, and you have provided no links to support your claim. Here is a link to the UKIP manifesto.
They do however say that they will waive tuition fees for people in this country who wish to work in the NHS.

I shall start planning ways to spoil my ballot paper, and dream of moving to Europe.

No, I think it really is......and doing it gives no great satisfaction. But when voting is important to you, and you want to, but can't for very pressing reasons of conscience - then this is the only solution. There were so many spoiled ballots at the last round of elections that this fact was mentioned in the national media.

Justhadathought · 08/11/2019 09:43

Also it is important to tell all local candidates that this is what you intend to do, & why.

Helmetbymidnight · 08/11/2019 09:45

It is meaningless and I really find it upsetting that people seem to think their spoiled paper is collected, investigated, researched or that people will act upon it.
Hint: They don't.
Your spoiled paper will be dismissed as one of the many papers spoiled because of Brexit, the climate, dogs, pensions, etc, etc.

Trewser · 08/11/2019 09:48

Yes please don't spoil your ballot

IrmaFayLear · 08/11/2019 09:54

A victim of domestic abuse was removed as a judge of a radical thinking prize and “hounded” out of her role within the Liberal Democrats for saying that she did not believe that men who identified as women should have access to women’s refuges.

Natalie Bird, 38, a mother of two who fled an abusive former partner, was accused of “dangerous transphobia” by transgender activists in the party. She had said that opening up safe spaces without proper safeguards to anyone who said that they were female could put women at risk.

She opposed segregating women’s refuges by chosen gender instead of biological sex, and said that it was not fair to make female victims of domestic violence, abuse and rape share services with people…

Found the above on The Times. The LibDems seem to be very liberal with intolerance of others.

Justhadathought · 08/11/2019 10:10

So you suggest that people should vote for candidates who say, or act on, things that you profoundly disagree with?

That you vote for parties that actively say they don't want the likes of you to vote for them?

And you suggest that what political parties say and do does not really matter, because you will vote for them, anyway?

That people can stand for things they don't really believe in, and that others will not stand up for what they do really believe in, and that is all fine? That politicians will lie and tell untruths for reasons of political expediency, but that is perfectly acceptable?

You seem to suggest that voting itself is meaningless - because people will vote without any real feeling or passion anyway - just because they always have, or because that is their habit?

I suggest this goes to the very heart of the problem with contemporary party politics. None of it means anything other than strategic game playing and acting out of tradition and habit.

I will not vote for anyone who stands for things that I profoundly disagree with - on issues that I consider to be of FIRST ORDER SIGNIFICANCE.

Justhadathought · 08/11/2019 10:11

Yes please don't spoil your ballot

Yes, don't do that because voting means nothing at all..It is just an intellectual & dishonest exercise. Politics is a meaning free zone.
