Lib Dems actively deterring GC women

Today I emailed the Lib Dems expressing an interest in joining their party.

I stated no one should receive discrimination or abuse for their transgender status but explained that I am GC and I asked if there was room for GC women in the party.

I received the following response:
Thank you for getting in touch. Whilst we appreciate your interest in joining, you should be aware that the Liberal Democrats are a trans inclusive party, and we have made it clear that we fully behind trans communities. As liberals we champion everyone’s right to live the life they want. By the sounds of your email it appears that your values are not aligned with ours so we are probably not the right the party for you.

I am flabbergasted. I didn't expect that I would have to believe that humans can change biological sex in order to be a member of the Lib Dems.

I am so disappointed. I was going to vote for them in the GE (passionate Remainer) but I cannot if this is their response.

There is no one to vote for. I am lost.

I thought I was going to vote Lib Dem - they have a good chance here following the unitetoremain campaign. It has been a Tory safe seat but we are a strong remain area. I am not sure what to do now (ardent remainer, obviously GC, would have once described myself as left-wing...). Politics is fucked and depressing and shite and the options of who to vote for just seem to get worse at every turn. Sad

Where is the reboot button?

RedToothBrush · 07/11/2019 23:34

There are a handful of LDs driving this policy through fear within the party. That's a reflection of how few people effectively run the party.

ChipOnMyOvary · 07/11/2019 23:36

Personally, I think we should organise a gc march before the ge. It is well overdue.

Babdoc · 07/11/2019 23:38

If any of you have a Communist party candidate standing - they’re the only party who are completely gender critical and understand that you can’t deal with women’s sex based oppression if you can’t define women as a class.
I say this reluctantly, as I am a Tory myself, and have been ever since Thatcher. I’ve always been proud that our party has had two female prime ministers to every other party’s total of zero. But if you can’t face voting Tory, and the trans issue is your main voting criterion, you could support the Communists!
And even if not, you can find some comforting gc analysis in back copies of the Morning Star.

CircleofWillis · 07/11/2019 23:39

Babdock what is their stance on Brexit?

ChipOnMyOvary · 07/11/2019 23:40

This election was very badly timed for us: give us another year or two and there could be a sea change. Then we would have had some kudos, but here we have major political parties saying, "No, you cannot even f***g join us." Fuck that, I was going to vote Lib in a marginal Lib seat. If I can't join them I;m not fucking voting for them.

CircleofWillis · 07/11/2019 23:40

Sorry Babdoc

AutumnRose1 · 07/11/2019 23:44

Babdoc, I’m surprised they haveNt been captured by woke yet so thanks for the info but....I can’t vote for them.

ChipOnMyOvary · 07/11/2019 23:44

And in case there is any doubt, my major concerns are with children: children who are being experimented upon, emotionally abused, surgically altered and mutilated (in the States), and sterilised (in all jurisdictions).

merrymouse · 07/11/2019 23:53

Despite all this crap, I still don’t think Lib Dems are necessarily any worse for women than Labour or the Tories

I don't know - this is pretty bad.

You can be a Lib Dem MP and believe that gay sex is a sin (Tim Farron), but apparently you can't be a member and believe that biological sex exists. It's pretty bat shit crazy.

ChipOnMyOvary · 07/11/2019 23:55

I guess that's a "No" then.

merrymouse · 07/11/2019 23:55

Or move to Edinburgh South West before 26th November and vote for Joanna Cherry!

RedToothBrush · 07/11/2019 23:56

In my constituency which is a target seat and has a good sized membership no more than 50 are actually active and turn up for meetings and participate.

I know that NONE of them had school age or nursery age children.

Most are pensioners, some are students and recent grads and there are a few single men.

Women in their 30s and 40s?

Nope. None.

And that is where the problem ultimately lies.

I therefore find it particularly intriguing how the leader is a women in her 30s...

... If you look more generally at political representation across all parties at council level, the single most unrepresented group is women of an age who have young children. The numbers of women have increased but there is still an acute unrepresentation of mothers with school age children.

RedToothBrush · 07/11/2019 23:58

If you think the party is institutionally homophobic cos of its policy on how lesbians can have dicks then why is it crazy?

ChipOnMyOvary · 07/11/2019 23:59

Sorry obv wrong thread, thanks for your hospitality.

Presumably because there was a big hoohah and Farron was ousted, and much progressive rejoicing among conflicted LibDems did abound. Looks like they weren't all that serious about it, and maybe they just didn't like Farron's haircut. Either way, it's now a very welcoming party for homophobes. Good to know.

AutumnRose1 · 08/11/2019 00:11

“ Either way, it's now a very welcoming party for homophobes.”

I hope people remember that.

RedToothBrush · 08/11/2019 00:12

Farron didn't tow the party's religious line. He wasn't in their clique.

Farron was ousted by a particular part of the party and their influence has increased over the rest of the leadership since.

IWantADifferentName · 08/11/2019 00:19

I’m glad you’ve contacted the main membership address. I’d like to know if it official policy to prevent gender critical women from joining.

Please let us know what response you get.

merrymouse · 08/11/2019 00:19

Presumably because there was a big hoohah and Farron was ousted, and much progressive rejoicing among conflicted LibDems did abound.

He is still a Lib Dem MP and as far as I know he is standing at the next election. He might be outside the inner circle, but he isn't that far outside.

RedToothBrush · 08/11/2019 00:21

He's an MP. They need them for publicity.

BeMoreMagdalen · 08/11/2019 00:31

Yes, but he's not leader anymore, and his gay sex views were ostensibly the reason for that. But I think Red has it right, it's more to do with cliques than any actual principles. Anti-LGB is still clearly a prime driver.

beckyvardy · 08/11/2019 00:46

If anyone has an email Or a statement they could let me have as I want to email
Asking all the parties in my area (northwest)what their policies are ref women's rights.

I'm not sure how to word it correctly to ensure I get a clear answer.

It would be appreciated if anyone has anything.

Tia

ChipOnMyOvary · 08/11/2019 00:53

Had an idea on this, Im going to video all the candidates who call at my house, ask them what they think re TWAW, and post links on here.

ChipOnMyOvary · 08/11/2019 00:54

Beckvardy it is simple: ask them loud and clear, "Are trans w w?"
