Lib Dems actively deterring GC women

Today I emailed the Lib Dems expressing an interest in joining their party.

I stated no one should receive discrimination or abuse for their transgender status but explained that I am GC and I asked if there was room for GC women in the party.

I received the following response:
Thank you for getting in touch. Whilst we appreciate your interest in joining, you should be aware that the Liberal Democrats are a trans inclusive party, and we have made it clear that we fully behind trans communities. As liberals we champion everyone’s right to live the life they want. By the sounds of your email it appears that your values are not aligned with ours so we are probably not the right the party for you.

I am flabbergasted. I didn't expect that I would have to believe that humans can change biological sex in order to be a member of the Lib Dems.

I am so disappointed. I was going to vote for them in the GE (passionate Remainer) but I cannot if this is their response.

There is no one to vote for. I am lost.

Why are you surprised that the Liberal Democrats (the clue is in the name) wouldn't want to recruit openly prejudiced people to their ranks?

They seem just fine with prejudice against women.

OxfordCat · 09/11/2019 14:13

@TheHeathenOfSuburbia equality is not a religion.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 09/11/2019 14:16

equality is not a religion.

And what rights if any are Transwomen missing in regards to any other men?

DuMondeB · 09/11/2019 14:20

equality is not a religion

Women don’t need equality, equality with men would mean two of us having to beat our male partners to death every week.

Women need liberation, not equality.

After the coalition government I wouldn’t trust a Lib Dem to mind my pint while I nipped to the

The belief that a human who doesn't follow their gender stereotype is born in the wrong body is just that, a belief system. Everyone has a right to their belief and are free to express it however they like, in this case dressing in the close stereotypical of the opposite sex. This is already protected by law.

Oxford, it's the forcing of this belief system on others that is the problem here.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 09/11/2019 14:22

It's not "prejudiced" to refuse to follow a belief system, it falls in the same category as any other religion.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 09/11/2019 14:26

Now Excluding people who don't follow this belief is... discrimination!

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 09/11/2019 15:54

@OxfordCat is it prejudiced to say trans people should face no discrimination or abuse?!

You're a joke.

The belief that a mammal can change sex has zero evidence in favour and relies entirely on a 'feeling' - it sure fits my definition of a religion, especially when you have a special name for people who don't believe, backed up with violent threats.

Maybe 'belief system' would indeed be a better choice of words.

Chiochan · 09/11/2019 16:55

@OxfordCat 'equality is not a religion'
it certainly is not, but believing in gendered 'brains'/essence/sould very much is.
whispers - also everyone sees through your soundbites...nonesense is still nonesense even when its expressed in short cliches

Ironic headline in Guardian today (I know, sorry).

Lib Dems promise 35 hours of free childcare from nine months old
Exclusive: Jo Swinson to announce dramatic increase as parties battle for female voters

ImGenderfree · 09/11/2019 18:54

OP you’re famous it’s been reported in The Times along with the Lib Dem’s suspending Aimee Challenor. Lib Dem spokesperson comment at the end saying ‘That’s where we’re at. The response we sent back is polite. Our views aren’t aligned with her views.”

Oh, beaten to the punch there! Great to see this in the news.

ImGenderfree · 09/11/2019 18:58

I know - cold, harsh daylight on these views. Do they want to be elected?

BeMoreMagdalen · 09/11/2019 19:10

Oh bring it on. A few 'Only vote LibDem if you believe men can be women' headlines will bring in a lovely bit of sunlight while the election candidates are apparently trying to attract the 'female vote'.

Mner2019 · 09/11/2019 19:25

Whoop! Well done OP.

PocketDictionary · 09/11/2019 23:39

Delighted this reaching a wider audience. You tell people & they think you're making it up it sounds so nutty.

PreseaCombatir · 10/11/2019 00:36

If the clue was in the name, perhaps the LibDems would be a bit more fucking democratic...

NeurotrashWarrior · 10/11/2019 10:11

Definitely viral now op!

Waterandlemonjuice · 10/11/2019 10:19

I was considering voting Libdem and absolutely won’t now on this issue alone. We should start using “women’s rights are human rights” as a slogan.

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 10/11/2019 10:42

Ah thanks for flagging that up, and thanks to Sian Griffiths, don't know where she picked it up from, here or twitter. I haven't spoken to her but thanks for getting it out there.

I still cannot believe it. Their response is 'our reply was polite' yes it was and so was my email, I made it explicit that I thought abuse and discrimination was unacceptable. And they say I'm not a good fit...

OP posts:
RedToothBrush · 10/11/2019 11:36

I'm not really on board with institutionalised homophobia... But yeah to inclusivity and diversity in the name of homophobia.

RedToothBrush · 10/11/2019 11:38

The backward thinking here is ridiculous.

Let's win an election by shooting ourselves in the foot and thinking virtue signalling without thinking is going to do it for us.

testing987654321 · 10/11/2019 12:17

That’s where we’re at. The response we sent back is polite. Our views aren’t aligned with her views.

This isn't exactly a strong defence of their response. It sounds quite weary, and someone thinking "fucksake why am I having to deal with this?".
