I sent the following to my local candidates

Please could you tell me, if elected, how you would protect women's sex based rights to single sex spaces (in prisons, refuges, changing rooms, sports etc)?
Thank you

Will post responses....

From the Conservative....

thank you for getting in touch. I sense your question is around how do we protect woman's rights as we accept the transgender community, a very sensitive and important area. I understand your concerns.

Let me start by saying, that I think it is very positive that society is now recognising transgender people and treating them as they wish to be treated. But that does not mean, that we can dismiss legitimate concerns like yours.

It is clearly not appropriate for trans-women, who have been convicted as male sex offenders, to be allowed to enter a woman's prison for example. That is not progressive at all. I appreciate some lines are more blurred than this and need to be taken on their merits and need to be dealt with sensitivity to all.

I also do not think it is tenable in women's sport for those with a clear biological advantage to be breaking world records consistently.

I hope this is helpful and thank you again for contacting me.

From the lib dems

The Liberal Democrats have been at the forefront of promoting equalities legislation for many years. We have always supported the rights of women and people from different minority groups to legal and social equality. The Equality Act 2010, which we helped to introduce, outlaws discrimination on grounds including sex, sexuality and gender reassignment, and is the Act which governs access to single-sex spaces. Behaviour in those spaces is covered by public order offences; I support the position of the party on this and the law under the act.

I hope this answers your question

That Lib Dems response...Shock

Ereshkigal · 04/11/2019 18:45

The Con one is a really good response and they guessed you meant trans issues which is interesting.

Datun · 04/11/2019 18:45

I hope this answers your question

You bet it does, you bunch of women hating tossers.

We have always supported the rights of women and people from different minority groups to legal and social equality.

And I'm not sure if they meant this, but, um, women are not a minority. They are, in fact, the majority. You bunch of vote losing, women hating tossers.

Saucery · 04/11/2019 18:50

When will they realise they are trading Woke for Votes?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/11/2019 18:50

Ah ah ah! No you don't.

Women are NOT the majority, in the same way that Leavers are not.. it is too close to call. Not a clear majority.. no no no.

But wait.. if all of those transwomen count as women then maybe, just maybe women ARE a clear, decisive majority. So, erm then, we, erm...

Oh dear! Oh dear! How will we work this out?

koshkat · 04/11/2019 18:52

I worry that the people who are pro-remain will vote for these idiots without realising what they are actually voting for. The Lib Dems hate women.
I fully expect the reponse from your Labour candidate to be in a very similar vein.

I am for this election, Pro, m’dear. Because of the TRA lobby

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/11/2019 19:00

Yes! We are funny old things aren't we. All that unreasonable belief that women's voices should be heard and that transwomen and women need to work towards their own rights and equalities rather than trample al lover those of women.

We're Rampant Biologists you know!

koshkat · 04/11/2019 19:00

ProTransUk as a left leanng woman I have to say that you are barking up completely the wrong tree here. How does being pro-woman make anyone innately right wing I wonder?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/11/2019 19:01

transwomen and women need to work towards their own rights and equalities rather than trample all over those of women. Ye gods!

Ereshkigal · 04/11/2019 19:02

innate right-wing nature of rad-fem theories

LOL. Don't you have your homework to do now schools are back?

Redshoeblueshoe · 04/11/2019 19:18

PT please feel free to report any transphobic.
It's not transphobic to want to protect the rights of girls and women

Redshoeblueshoe · 04/11/2019 19:18

Whoops posts obviously

EndoplasmicReticulum · 04/11/2019 19:34

This rampant biologist was going to vote Lib Dem. Not anymore.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 04/11/2019 19:47

this is a really good idea

i'm going to contact all my local candidates. for the first time ever i haven't got a clue who to vote for. the one who provides a sensible answer may well get my vote

scottishbride · 04/11/2019 19:47

Im quite impressed by the Conservative response, especially as the Home Office seems committed to placing male born prisoners in women’s prisons. And the major sporting bodies all seem to be hedging their bets too, so you got a conclusive response to sports.
Let us know what Labour say! I don’t understand how anyone could vote for Lib Dem from that response!

teawamutu · 04/11/2019 20:11

I've contacted my local Labour, Tory and Lib Dem candidates. Will update as events warrant.

DoYouRememberTheInnMiranda · 04/11/2019 20:19

Do you have an easy way to find Co tact details for your candidates? I'm struggling to get hold of mine apart from twitter, and I'm not sure I'm brave enough to stick my head above the parapet that openly...

Newuser123123 · 04/11/2019 20:22

Think I just googled each party, parliamentary candidate and my constituency. Not sure if there's a central list

OP posts:
7Worfs · 04/11/2019 20:22

I can’t find who my candidates are yet, and incumbent Tory announced retirement. I’ll be asking them too, once they are announced

SarahTancredi · 05/11/2019 09:58

It is clearly not appropriate for trans-women, who have been convicted as male sex offenders, to be allowed to enter a woman's prison for example. That is not progressive at all

What about ones that haven't been convicted as sex offenders though? Do they still think women should suck.it up in the communal.prison.showers because it's ok as theres no sex offense hereHmm
