I sent the following to my local candidates

Please could you tell me, if elected, how you would protect women's sex based rights to single sex spaces (in prisons, refuges, changing rooms, sports etc)?
Thank you

Will post responses....

I spent yesterday writing to the candidates in my area and will update if I get any response. For those asking how to find their candidates and their contact details, I found that the Wikipedia page for my constituency already had a list of 2019 candidates included. After that, you can search for contact details on the national or regional party websites. If all else fails, send them a message on Twitter asking for their party email address.

koshkat · 05/11/2019 10:38

I am also about to do this and will update as I get reponses. I contacted my white, male, middle class, Tory MP some time ago about this and he was very on the ball about women's rights. I really think that the Tories KNOW that this shit is a vote loser.

  1. Stand up for science?

I don't think so.

koshkat · 05/11/2019 10:46

And how does fighting for trans rights come above all the other stuff. FFS.

Siameasy · 05/11/2019 10:53

Reasonable response from the Tory
I contacted mine ages ago and he thought only trans sexuals who have had SRS should be allowed access to female spaces and have GRCs. So I would say he gets it somewhat. He’s white and old (not a popular demographic with the woke, despite most of them being white).

Siameasy · 05/11/2019 10:54

Mine-safe Tory seat.

Matereality · 05/11/2019 11:16

The LD are regressive and prescriptive on this issue. Not liberal.

MissLawls · 05/11/2019 11:45

The Equality Act 2010, which we helped to introduce

Is this true? My recollection of The Equality Act is that it was one of the last pieces of legislation passed by the Brown Labour government with Harriet Harman steering it through.

Happy to stand corrected on this.

And I love the line "trading woke for votes". We have an opportunity in this election to make our voices heard. We are more than half the population. We talk to each other. We discuss things. We care. We matter. We vote.

Siameasy · 05/11/2019 11:47

Yes there’s some good sayings about!
Trading woke for votes
Go woke go broke
Go woke lose votes

Newuser123123 · 05/11/2019 14:40

Uuugh where's that lib dem policy from?

Also I wonder what Tim 'homosexuality is a sin' Farron thinks about this??

And the first response back is from the Tory (sitting MP):
"I appreciate that this is a very sensitive topic, and I have met with a number of women over the past year who share your concerns.

"I have written to the Rt Hon Liz Truss, Minister for Women and Equalities highlighting the points you have raised in your email. I have asked her to address your concerns and I will contact you again as soon as I receive a response.

" If re-elected I will continue to make representations regarding this issue and will work closely with the Minister for Women and Equalities Minister, whoever it may be."

koshkat · 05/11/2019 18:30

That is positive. The Tories are winning this one.

EmpressLesbianInChair · 05/11/2019 18:34

I found my candidates using whocanivotefor.co.uk/. Lib Dem & Green so far so not hopeful...

Fieldofgreycorn · 05/11/2019 18:43

Very balanced response from Conservative. Which is good.
I could never vote for them though.

lionheart · 05/11/2019 18:44

62 End the spousal veto.

slipperywhensparticus · 05/11/2019 18:48

It's from a local lib dem candidate she put it up when someone asked about policys

Procrastinator2 · 05/11/2019 18:49

There is also this from Not Buying It on the LibDems' position on porn and prostitution. notbuyingit.org.uk/lib-dems/ Don't think their policy has changed since.

SirVixofVixHall · 05/11/2019 18:49

That Lib Dem response ! Woeful. Surprisingly reasonable one from your conservative candidate. Awaiting the others keenly. I need to do the same locally. I have already seen my MP so it would be good to chase it up.

CodenameVillanelle · 05/11/2019 18:51

Fuck me you lot aren't thinking of voting tory over this are you? They may know what women are but they have presided over the past 10 years of Overton window shifting and introduced the idea of GRA reform in the first place. Not to mention, the NHS and Brexit, both issues we can't afford to throw over for the weak and paltry protection of the tories!

SirVixofVixHall · 05/11/2019 18:53

I have just seen there that my Labour candidate is the woman who was really rude to me last election. She was ill informed, not very intelligent, and just parroted the whole “inclusive” “transwomen are women” crap.

SirVixofVixHall · 05/11/2019 18:56

Have just seen that Lib Dem thing with trans rights at number 5 ! Have they lost their MINDS ?

NoCisAllWoman · 05/11/2019 18:56

We're in a Labour small majority over Tories seat. The Labour MP is a remainer, as am I, and I've emailed him this week asking him about protecting single sex spaces - no response yet.

So for us, it seems to be crappy at a Party level, but possibly ok individual level Labour candidate. Or vice versa for the Conservative candidate. Oh the choicesConfused

I would never vote for the Lib Dems where we live, partly because they're awful on every level, partly because they have no chance of winning the seat away from the Tories.

SirVixofVixHall · 05/11/2019 19:02

I am not going to vote LD after seeing that .
I actually might vote Tory on this. I can envisage doing that if they are actually going to stand up for women. I won’t vote Labour as I hate Corbyn the anti-semitism and the misogyny. I would like very much to vote Green, but Challenor has put paid to that.
I am in Wales so might vote Plaid depending on their response. i have never voted Tory, so it would be a leap.
