The Upcoming Election

I guess we will get the manifestos in a few days, which should be interesting...

All I remember from the previous elections was far too much: "I am in the X party. There are tons of people in the X party that are gender critical, but they can't say anything because of A, B, C."

Personally, I am spoiling my ballot unless any of the parties (other than UKIP) take a gender critical stance. I am in a Labour safe seat, so it won't make any difference to my area.

I'll be contacting all of my candidates to ask them their views on this. I don't hold out much hope for the labour incumbent, she's already all but called me a bigot.

Inebriati · 29/10/2019 21:02

I will spoil my ballot because as Susan B Anthony said;
''No self-respecting woman should wish or work for the success of a party who ignores her sex.''

Unfortunately at this point I'm willing to vote for a tree frog so long as it means we don't end up with Corbyn or a coalition of wokery.

Inebriati · 29/10/2019 21:30

Is it expensive? If not I vote we all stand as ''The Reality Coalition (Not The Fun Kind)''

BeMoreMagdalen · 29/10/2019 21:33

It won't be Green or LibDem. Their cossetting of Aimee Challenor betrays a huge inability to understand basic, basic decency/safeguarding/due diligence that I simply cannot allow anywhere near power if I have a say.

Labour seem pretty damned hopeless while grandad is in charge, and the disgraceful display at the conference and at the fringe meeting mean I don't remotely trust the fuckers even though I know some sound members of the party.

And the Conservatives are presiding over austerity policies and this ridiculous brinkmanship about the European project which has stymied the entire government process for so long.

What a fecking joke.

In exactly the same position.

littlbrowndog · 29/10/2019 21:35

No one ☹️

In fact maybe lots of us should write that across it.

littlbrowndog · 29/10/2019 21:36

I never not voted now ☹️

Evenquieterlife33 · 29/10/2019 21:43

I don’t know what to do. I think I’m in a Tory safe seat, I think it wouldn’t make a difference what I vote, but it might. I don’t think I can take a chance on vote spoiling. Although none of the parties represent me.

ChattyLion · 29/10/2019 21:47

''The Reality Coalition (Not The Fun Kind)'

You’ve got my vote! Smile

Inebriati · 29/10/2019 21:50

In order to become a 'validly nominated' candidate, which means your name will appear on a ballot paper, you need to submit a completed set of nomination forms together with a deposit of £500 to the (Acting) Returning Officer before 4pm on the deadline day for nominations.

I am going to vote Lib Dem for their Brexit policy amongst other things.

However I would like to reach out to my local Lib Dem candidate and ask for their views on women's sex based rights. Can anyone recommend any good resources?

FemaleAndLearning · 29/10/2019 22:02

This is awful, I am in a labour safe seat so I think I can spoil my ballot paper, but it seems a waste?
Also as noted above if you do spoil your ballot paper make sure you spoil it correctly or it can be counted as a vote.

It is shocking that no political party appears to actually support women but while so many of us are without a political ‘home’, having a general election gives us a great opportunity to impress on candidates how much these issues mean to women and to alert them to WTF is going on at the moment in women’s prisons, schools, women’s sports, women’s awards and opportunities, academia and political public life where free speech is under threat, ‘single-sex’ hospital wards, women’s services, lesbian groups and LGB places with the influx of men and the ‘cotton ceiling’ , and lack of support for all children in NHS children’s GIDS services thanks to the politically-prescribed ‘affirmation-only’ approach, and worse risks for some children who progress down the medical and surgical pathway to transition. Not to mention lack of support for detransitioned people and desisters. And more besides. These are essential areas for politicians to understand more about.

Obviously wish this election wasn’t under such shit national and international circumstances though.

ChipOnMyOvary · 29/10/2019 22:34

If it's only 500 can't we crowdfund to get some candidates to stand?

cwg1 · 29/10/2019 23:15

Chip you need more dosh than that, really. The £500 is really a deterrent to stop everyone and their cat standing Grin Leaflets, posters etc are on top, though you get one leaflet delivered free by the post office for a GE. And you'd need to crack on to get nominations in.

TerfTalk · 29/10/2019 23:20

My naughty streak would love to see a GC independent stand in Brighton... I would definitely chip in for that.

Kinda sad to see the whole political nuanced political spectrum shoe-horned into 'which candidate is most gender critical?'

Anyone else think there are more pressing things to base votes on such as Brexit (whether you like it or not), the gender pay gap, progressive education policies, ending austerity, supporting single mothers and carers etc. etc.

I came here looking for the 'feminist' board but all I seem to be finding is Gender Critters.

FoldyRoll · 29/10/2019 23:43

I am determinedly gender critical but agree with Hypatia here. So much pivots on this election, for women in particular. Please don't ignore all the issues involved for the sake of one.

Birdsfoottrefoil · 30/10/2019 00:05

But a gender pay gap closed by men who self ID as women does me no good. Single mothers who can’t even use the word ‘mother’. Progressive education policies telling my daughter she is a bigot for not being happy to undress in front of a man, removing any sporting opportunities she might have had, and any incentives for employers to include females like her in the work place... women and girls can not be included, taken into account in policy decisions, have health provision to meet their needs etc when ‘women and girls’ ceases to mean anything.

ChipOnMyOvary · 30/10/2019 00:12

I get what PPs mean, but it's a sad state of affairs though when voting for the Green Party (best on Global warming policy, I imagine, one of the biggest issues) forces one to sign up as a cis-non-man Halloween Confused

TerfTalk · 30/10/2019 00:20

Yes, there are many other issues affecting women. Feel free to start your own thread on the issues concerning you.

However, the gender issue will have a massive knock-on effect on everyone, which is why it needs to be nipped in the bud ASAP.

OP posts:
Apollo440 · 30/10/2019 00:25

The communists have been consistently GC and backed women over gender ideology. They are never going to get elected so maybe an option for some instead of a spoilt ballot paper.

Fallingirl · 30/10/2019 00:27

What Birds said. The consequences for women and girls are set to be horrific, and a labour government will fasttrack the reduction of women and girls to props for men.

For a long time, I was torn over spoiling the ballot or ‘taking (another)one for the team, and voting labour throughgritted teeth.
I thought it was possible a labour governmentqould, on balance, benefit the worst of women in the country.

But with the new schools guidance, it is clear that all safeguarding is thrown out, and ALL girls will suffer the consequences.

I firmly believe a labour government would be detrimnetal to all women and girls.
