NHS Staff Survey

So the staff survey is out - and one of the questions is "what is your gender?"
There is the option to "self-declare" with - oh happy day - a comments box.

I put "I don't have a gender. My sex is female."

Any other NHS staff up for joining me?

Oh the joy of a comments box to answer the simplest of questions.

The free text/comments box is where we can state what we really think.

Prepare to see this option disappear due to this last sentence.

Birdsfoottrefoil · 21/10/2019 14:10

I recently filled in a survey that asked what gender my child identified as. Fortunately there was a comments box...

Birdsfoottrefoil · 21/10/2019 14:12

wrath but it would be terribly phobic to get rid of the comments box. How else could a gender ideologue explain that they identified with six-sided crystalline-water gender.

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 21/10/2019 14:40

I did similar on my staff survey (I work for a government department)

econowifey · 21/10/2019 14:53

Yep I can do that

ErrolTheDragon · 21/10/2019 14:53

Why are they asking you about gender, which isn't a protected characteristic?

See link in this thread for some good information about what they should and shouldn't be asking about.

FannyCann · 21/10/2019 17:15

Goody. I haven't filled mine in yet but I'll crack on. Wink

BettyFilous · 21/10/2019 17:55

Why are they asking you about gender, which isn't a protected characteristic?

Tell my employer* this! All the sex data on the HR system has recently been changed over to gender.

  • public sector, so required to comply with the Public Sector Equality Duty. 🙄
Birdsfoottrefoil · 21/10/2019 22:32

They have to report the gender pay gap - though this is the pay or male and female employees. Though ‘gender’ is only used in the title of the legislation (“These Regulations may be cited as the Equality Act 2010 (Gender Pay Gap Information) Regulations 2017”) and no further definition appears to be offered for ‘male’ and ‘female’.

3rdNamechange · 21/10/2019 22:38

I usually bin mine. They say it's anonymous but then write to ask why you haven't filled it in. Pointless waste of time , I tell my boss this too. Nothing ever changes.

Luaa · 21/10/2019 22:42

I haven't had my email to do it yet, but will do this when I do.

Alice2014 · 21/10/2019 22:47

On discussion with colleagues, we decided against doing the above purely out of fear that no one would read the comments and statistics would be generated like “68% of staff are transgender / gender fluid / other ridiculous statistic” and that it may work against us in the long run.

Boobiliboobiliboo · 21/10/2019 22:50

They say it's anonymous but then write to ask why you haven't filled it in.

As a recipient of the responses, it’s anonymous when the aggregated responses are sent to us.

Boobiliboobiliboo · 21/10/2019 22:50

we decided against doing the above purely out of fear that no one would read the comments

The comments are the most valuable part!

Luaa · 22/10/2019 09:21

I've just checked and the government recommends using gender unless you specifically need to know someone's biological sex, so they are just following those guidelines. Now I'm not sure what to put

FannyCann · 22/10/2019 09:27

I'm going to put "I do not have a gender. Gender is a social construct. I could tell you my sex but you haven't asked that question. Sex is a protected characteristic under the equality act"

HearMeSnore · 23/10/2019 15:18

Nice one FannyCann - wish I'd thought to say that.

Gender identity exists and doesn’t always conform to sex though?

Fieldofgreycorn · 24/10/2019 09:06

public sector, so required to comply with the Public Sector Equality Duty. 🙄

Terrible all this having to protect people and ensure equal opportunities business isn’t it.

Sicario · 24/10/2019 10:58

Is it possible for anyone to share the questionnaire with us? This will help to inform when consulting with parliament about takeover of language to further the trans agenda.

3rdNamechange · 24/10/2019 11:56

I've put what FannyCamm said

FWRLurker · 24/10/2019 12:51

Gender identity exists and doesn’t always conform to sex though?

Gender identity is a personal belief that only some people have. It does not exist in the same way material characteristics like height, weight, or sex do.

Gender pay gap / gender discrimination has nothing to do with gender Identity and everything to do with sex. Specifically, gender-stereotypes are applied based on the sex you are perceived by others to have (so they can then discriminate against you according to sex). This correlates much better with birth/pubertal sex than with “gender identity” because many people who don’t believe in gender ID are still clearly female and many people who believe they are female are still clearly male (reverse male/female above as appropriate).

3rdNamechange · 24/10/2019 14:12

Sorry , FannyCann.

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 27/10/2019 09:24

Gender identity exists and doesn’t always conform to sex though

I can’t speak for others but I’ve never had an innate sense of gender identity, I have no idea what people mean by it. All I know is I am my biological sex. Which is why I put that I am gender free and my sex is female

Just for lols I did a couple of online tests. Apparently I’m a chateful words male or androgynous or a female to male cross dresser 😂

HearMeSnore · 27/10/2019 18:59

Sicario I'm not sure. I'm off work now for half term but I'll have a look when I get back and see if there's a way to save a copy of it.
