I've just discovered podcasts (thanks to my hybrids). Sufferagette City: Make more Noise has been enjoyable; young, fun and rad fem! I do shout (in my head, not good look on the tube) and basically add to and/or disagree. Apologies for the long preamble, do you women have or know of excellen rad fem podcasts at all?

The guilty feminist! Feminist comedy and very informative.
Standard issue for more serious chat and some really interesting topics/guests.

Godxilla · 18/10/2019 19:58

Oh, thanks so much! I shall investigate.

WOMEN’S LIBERATION RADIO NEWS

wlrnmedia.wordpress.com/category/podcasts/

The episodes are great with a primarily serious focus but also lighthearted topics are discussed. You can listen to it direct from their WordPress website as listed above or look them up on whatever app you use to play your podcasts. 😄

Perhaps more women need to get their feminist stuff out into the podcast realm. I'm sure lots of women are hungry for this. Perhaps i should get my group , that i belong to, to do one...no blinking idea how to go about it; I'm sure someone will have the skill set for it.

Just a warning that the Guilty Feminist is not feminist at all and fucking cringe worthy to boot.

Godxilla · 18/10/2019 20:10

Cheers!!

^This

Cis this cis that, denounced "get the L out movement" and very liberal intersectional feminism (called "Fifth Wave") definitely not what OP asked for. The Guilty Feminist is supportive of trans individuals playing sex-segregated sports based on their gender feelz not their sex. Need I say more?

Mishfit0819 · 18/10/2019 21:55

Depends on your definition of feminism I guess..

OP asked for suggestions, maybe rather than jumping down my throat you suggest something? I'm on this thread as I'd also like more podcast recommendations.

ShePersisted · 18/10/2019 22:07

I rate the Guilty Feminist, but I guess it's not for everyone. I also like: Tea with Alice, Hoovering Pod, Bad with Money, Food Psych (on intuitive eating, of you think fat is a feminist issue), and - the old standard - woman's hour.

Not saying that every word of every episode is the epitome of women's liberation, but they all showcase powerful, articulate women's voices. Happy listening -- I'll be trying out some of the ones mentioned above.

I wasn't being pedantic, OP asked, do you women have or know of excellen rad fem podcasts at all?

I'm sure some like The Guilty Feminist - to each their own. I merely was explaining how TGF is nowhere near what OP requested. No more no less.

StopThePlanet · 19/10/2019 01:50

There is a previous thread (possibly more) in FWR about podcasts; I recommend that you search for them to explore some of the previously recommended rad fem podcasts.

There was one thread in particular IIRC that was about podcasts by women (not necessarily about Feminism) if you are interested. I know I referenced several female-produced and/or led about economics, science, prisons, etc. and many other posters listed their favorites.

Whowouldfardelsbear · 19/10/2019 02:05

I came across Guilty Feminist for the first time a couple of weeks ago when they were interviewed on another podcast I listen to (Richard Herring). I genuinely thought they were taking the piss out of feminism and was surprised to find out they do actually class themselves as feminist. They seem very woke, young and millenial (not sure how old they actually are!)

Was surprised as Richard Herring is actually a pretty sound feminist in my opinion!

Mothers of Invention

Women’s Liberation Radio News

Early episodes of TGF were good, and they’ve had some fascinating guests (e.g. the journalist who broke the Windrush scandal) but Deborah Frances White has definitely swallowed the Woke-a-Cola at some point and now it’s all about proving how intersectional and right-on and trans-ally to the max she and her co-hosts are. I actually read TGF book and there are some passages where she absolutely nails the struggles women have experienced (and still experience) in the struggle for equality. It made for a very ironic and frustrating read given her mission statement of TWAW simply does not fit with the otherwise fairly consistent internal logic of her woman-centric writing, but she doesn’t quite seem to have the self-awareness or insight to see that.

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 19/10/2019 03:18

The Guilty Feminist episode with Australian actor Mary Coustas in her character as Effie, was one of the funniest, but also the truest, things I’ve listened to. Early episodes of TGF are excellent, as is DFW radio series about looking for her birth mother.

Godxilla · 19/10/2019 09:01

Thank you all for the recommendations. Smile

I've been listening to the podcasts Jennifer Lahl has recently started "Venus Rising" about issues relating to fertility specifically surrogacy.

Episode four is about women's reproductive physiology - not had a chance to listen yet

I downloaded the Podomatic app but I do find it a bit clunky, the podcasts are also available on iplayer and other platforms I think.

Hypatia415 · 19/10/2019 09:38

Good thread, I've listened to a few of the Guilty Feminist and will definitely be checking some of these out!

Godxilla · 19/10/2019 20:54

So excited about these; downloading them!!

redexpat · 20/10/2019 10:39

I know that TGF can get a bit woke, but theres so much good material in there that I can just ignore the bits I disagree with.

I fpund standard issue just didnt grab my attention in the same way. Maybe I'll give it another go.

FannyCann · 20/10/2019 13:34

Also looks like Click Off have started podcasts. Not listened yet.

I came just to say not “The Guilty Feminist” despite the title. I don’t think there’s anything very feminist about it. And the first line of every episode “I’m a feminist, but...” (I wear skirts/ lipstick/ ) is the worst thing about it. But, it does have lots of great female guests.
