Did I miss something? Am I dreaming?

Oh, and Dawn Butler Brent's an idiot. But we knew that.

I don't see how the GRA will stop the hate crimes against trans people? I mean, violent crimes not stickers with definitions on them. Will some man go "oh I see you have changed your birth certificate so I will not assault you"?

Pandaintheporridge · 17/10/2019 23:48

Not meaning to trivialise this by my pp, but Dawn Butler seemed to link hate crime with absence of updated GRA.

Lots of women sent cards to Joan McAlpine, who is an MSP (as well as some other female MSPs who have spoken up in defence of women's rights):

cwg1 · 17/10/2019 23:57

Yes.

Write to her directly.

Elizabeth Truss MP
House of Commons
LONDON
SW1A 0AA

Email addresses at Parliament UK.

We have the right to contact ministers directly about any matters relevant to their ministerial responsibilities.

If you email, you might also like to copy in your MP. I know I bang on, but if/when this gets to legislation, they need to have heard about this from as many people as possible. One of the first excuses will be 'none/very few of my constituents have expressed concern...'

ForeverFaff · 18/10/2019 07:08

Was just coming on to post her contact details! Will send a nice little card today. I'm really thrilled. Someone's on our side 😆😆😆😆😆

I'm not gonna lie.

I've hated the Tories for decades. I grew up in Thatcher's Britain.

But I'd be prepared to vote for them if they can stave off this evil ideology.

And I never thought I'd say that I'd vote Tory.

Beamur · 18/10/2019 08:11

OneTerrificMouse
I know what you mean. I have never voted Tory and it pains me that them remaining in power seems the only way the damage of these proposals might be limited.
Saying that my local MP is such a toad I couldn't in all conscience vote for them!

RoyalCorgi · 18/10/2019 08:25

Good to see Butler get ratio'ed on that thread. There was a very good series of tweets on there from someone called Malcolm Clark, who I hadn't come across before. Anyone know anything about him?

OkayGo · 18/10/2019 08:43

I never thought I'd vote Tory but I think they've swayed me.

PurpleCrowbar · 18/10/2019 08:58

Card sent via TouchNote.

I'm another one watching large porcine mammals glide past the rooftops as I seriously consider voting Tory...this feels weird.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 18/10/2019 09:00

Apols howonearthdidwegethere didn't see you'd already posted hansard!

nettie434 · 18/10/2019 09:09

There was a very good series of tweets on there from someone called Malcolm Clark, who I hadn't come across before.

I have seen a few tweets from him. I don’t know anything about him beyond that like Simon Fanshawe or James Dreyfus he is a gay man sticking up for women. He is on twitter @twisterfilm if anyone else wants to take a look.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 18/10/2019 09:23

Where is all of this violence they keep going on about?

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 18/10/2019 09:50

There was a very good series of tweets on there from someone called Malcolm Clark, who I hadn't come across before.

If it's the man I'm thinking of, he's a Scottish man who was good friends with Joan McAlpine from their university days when she and he campaigned strongly for gay rights. He spoke out in defence of her when she was accused of being a transphobe and homophobia for speaking up for women, and all about the work they did together for gay rights 30-odd years ago. I think he works in behind the scenes in film or media because I've read a lot of tweets from him that show he knows what he's talking about there.

He's a good egg, from what I've seen.

LangCleg · 18/10/2019 10:11

Dawn Butler continuing to give good value for paid trips, I see.

teawamutu · 18/10/2019 10:15

Card sent.

@teawamutu literally just back in from posting my card!

Funny how women send thank-you cards, TRA's send threats.

teawamutu · 18/10/2019 10:34

Gotta love that female socialisation Grin

I signed mine 'former Labour voter'.

Thanks for the Touch Note tip, Purple. Am considering using my second free card to write to Labour HQ and inform them they've lost yet another vote.

OP posts:
ForeverFaff · 18/10/2019 10:53

I'm going to vote conservative. I honestly think that this issue is my #1 concern. If they are going to support women's rights, I'm all in.

Michelleoftheresistance · 18/10/2019 11:00

I agree Faff that's an immediate vote winner for me.

However I'm afraid I'm now cynical enough that I'm not rushing to thank Liz Truss until she's made it clearer exactly what she means, and what her definition of a protected single sex space actually is. I've heard too much of the double speak.

ForeverFaff · 18/10/2019 11:44

I wish ballot papers had a list of policies on that you could select as your 'reason' for voting for who you chose.
Would be very illuminating. I might put a female-symbol in the box! Maybe a large ➕with a little circle on the top.

ErrolTheDragon · 18/10/2019 12:03

Hopefully she's nothing like the new SNP women's convenor who glibly and ridiculousness 'supports' such things - on the assumption that TWAW.Hmm

Yorkshirelass444 · 18/10/2019 12:11

The twitter responses are great! 100% supportive of women.

DanaPhoenix · 18/10/2019 13:18

Can we clone her and send the clone down under?
